  1. Hey, there's still Wimbledon for you English to enjoy! So, I ask my English Forum brethren, what are the Fleet Street rags saying about this latest England World Cup shame? Is Hodgson gone? Whose heads will roll? Was this the last World Cup for the likes of Gerrard and Rooney? Rooney's only 28 so I guess he has one more left in him. Before England's last match I posted John of Gaunt's "This blessed plot" speech from "Richard the Second"...well, only the inspirational part of his speech. As an optimist, I wanted to stay positive. But now that England managed to go winless in this year's WC, I'll now post the complete "Blessed plot" soliloquy. Methinks I am a prophet new inspired And thus expiring do foretell of him: His rash fierce blaze of riot cannot last, For violent fires soon burn out themselves; Small showers last long, but sudden storms are short; He tires betimes that spurs too fast betimes; With eager feeding food doth choke the feeder: Light vanity, insatiate cormorant, Consuming means, soon preys upon itself. This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England, This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings, Fear'd by their breed and famous by their birth, Renowned for their deeds as far from home, For Christian service and true chivalry, As is the sepulchre in stubborn Jewry, Of the world's ransom, blessed Mary's Son, This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land, Dear for her reputation through the world, Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it, Like to a tenement or pelting farm: England, bound in with the triumphant sea Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame, With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds: That England, that was wont to conquer others, Hath made a shameful conquest of itself. Ah, would the scandal vanish with my life, How happy then were my ensuing death!
  2. I imagine Moon must have been partying all day with them at the Riot House before the show, so they were good and looney-loose by the time they hit the stage. All kinds of wild and crazy extraneous stuff was going on at this show...on stage and off, in the crowd and behind the scenes. Everywhere. To reference another show I was at: THE VIBES WERE REAL!
  3. Yeah, I was pretty livid. Someone didn't get the birthday present she ought to have, thanks to my absent-mindedness.
  4. Because of my Zeppelin disease, I have both of those albums. I also have the grey splatter vinyl BBC Sessions from the same German Swan Song label. Despite the official looking appearance, I have been informed by knowledgeable sources here that they are indeed bootlegs. I have only listened to the BBC Sessions and Southampton ones so far and the sound is pretty incredible. I do wish the Southampton was complete, though. Someone on this Forum would have had the Southampton and BBC Sessions vinyl for her birthday if I hadn't spaced out and left my record bag on the subway on my way to the post office. Nobody turned them in to lost & found, unfortunately. Lesson learned.
  5. Welcome to the Forum butler, and thanks for posting. Just so you know, you can search for thread topics...like what's your favourite Whole Lotta Love?...so we don't get overrun with duplicate threads. Here's the prior thread discussion: http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/20693-favorite-version-of-whole-lotta-love/?fromsearch=1 Huh? Sorry, the "San Francisco" part is from "Dazed and Confused", not in "Whole Lotta Love".
  6. Wow! Tim Lincecum is truly back from the dead...he just threw a no-hitter against the Padres. Congratulations on your boy, redrum! I don't like the Giants but I've always had a soft-spot for Lincecum...maybe it was his long hair. Still can't get used to seeing him with a mustache.
  7. SHAMEFUL. SHAMEFUL. SHAMEFUL. Suárez should be suspended if not outright banned immediately. Not just for a game or the rest of the World Cup but for a significant chunk of time. If not for life, then at least three years...one year for each bite he has administered. As someone who has casually supported Liverpool FC over the years, it is especially embarrassing that Liverpool employs this sadistic chomper. Yes, he has incredible football gifts but he's a zero in class and sportsmanship. This is why Liverpool was tantalized with the promise of an EPL title so close only to have it cruelly yanked away at the end...it offended the Football Gods that Suárez was playing and therefore the Gods made Liverpool pay for their sins. As Reggie and most of us have already noted, Sepp Bastard and FIFA are a JOKE, so who knows what and if any punishment is meted out to Suárez. Blaming the English media for making it up is a last act of a scoundrel. France vs. Ecuador about to start...is France really that good or their competition that BAD? Much like Columbia...it's hard to tell how good these teams really are because they were both in such weak groups. I mean, if England was in a group with Greece and Japan, I reckon they'd be advancing onwards, too. Rick, it boggles my mind you can bet on a sport you have little respect for and that has serious issues with referee and match integrity. Do you like throwing your money away?
  8. My interest in the England - Costa Rica match is to see if England plays with some spirit or merely goes through the motions, unfathomably exiting the World Cup without a single point. Now, on the eve of England's last match, John of Gaunt's haunting soliloquy from Shakespeare's "Richard II" has been running through my noggin. "This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself, Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England..."
  9. Let others bitch if they want, I am happy to hear this news! Mighty Rearranger and Dreamland are two of the best Robert Plant solo records and his concerts with the SSS among the best of his career. I've been waiting for the new album ever since he announced having two albums in the works. Now, whatever became of the album he and Buddy Miller were working on?
  10. The last 8? That would be something. Torn between watching England vs. Costa Rica or Italy vs. Uruguay tomorrow.
  11. ^^^ Are you a Brazil supporter Walter? It's 0-0 at the half in the Mexico-Croatia match. It's getting testy out there as Mexico reverts to some of its dirty tactics and the referees seem in danger of losing control of the match.
  12. ^^^ Aye, noted. Brazil should take care of Camaroon today but I'm not sure who will win the Mexico vs. Croatia match. USA was put in the so-called Group of Death, and I had Germany and Portugal moving on in my brackets, so for the U.S. to even be this close to advancing is beyond my expectations already. If we survive longer than England, it will be a successful World Cup for the U.S. in my opinion.
  13. ^^^ Yes, Netherlands was certainly the class of Group B. Robben is a beautiful player to watch and I reckon the Dutch are one of the top three or four forces in this World Cup. Is that necessarily a bad thing, though? If you're going to have to play a team eventually, sometimes it is better to play them early in a tournament than later. Who's to say Chile or any team be afraid of Brazil over another top side like Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, etc.?
  14. I'll break it down for you, Rick. It's like I said in one of my earlier posts, since both Netherlands and Chile have already clinched advancing from their group, neither the Australia vs. Spain nor Netherlands vs. Chile matches have any bearing on the Group B teams...they're as meaningful as a NFL preseason game. If Netherlands or Chile do play their starters, I doubt it will be for very long. I wouldn't put money on this match if you paid me. I know Columbia and Costa Rica have also clinched advancement to the next round, but I'm not sure if France has or not. They should be close though, and they have a whopping advantage in Goal Differential. The U.S. needs Portugal and Ghana to play to a draw in their match on Thursday. That way, the U.S. can still advance even if they lose to Germany.
  15. If the U.S. takes care of business tomorrow versus Portugal, then it won't matter what happens against Germany. Kiwi, I'll be cheering for the U.S.
  16. Yes I have. By the way, Jules, my condolences to you, Reggie, WhoopieCat, and all our other Aussie Forum members on Australia's elimination. At least there's still cricket and rugby to look forward to.
  17. DEUTSCHLAND! DEUTSCHLAND! Too bad I cannot watch the game due to work...I'll have to sneak a peek online every now and then. I originally was looking forward to Monday's Netherlands vs. Chili tussle, but with both teams having already clinched moving on to the Knockout Round, does anyone think either team will start its best lineup? Why exhaust your players in a meaningless game?
  18. I have only opened the first album SDBS...book, cds were individually shrink wrapped, but not the vinyl or the press kit. Music discussion and anything else related to listener's opinion of these new remasters, whether it is the music or the packaging, are happening here: Led Zeppelin I: http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/21646-remastered-led-zeppelin-i-post-your-reactionsreviews-here/ Led Zeppelin II: http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/21645-remastered-led-zeppelin-ii-post-your-reactionsreviews-here/ Led Zeppelin III: http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/21644-remastered-led-zeppelin-iii-post-your-reactionsreviews-here/
  19. Since these are the Definitive Editions of the Led Zeppelin albums, I guess that means these are the definitive song credits, as well. So, for Led Zeppelin's first album, the scorecard now reads: Side One 1. Good Times Bad Times jimmy Page - John Paul Jones - John Bonham 2. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Anne Bredon - Jimmy Page - Robert Plant 3. You Shook Me Willie Dixon - J. B. Lenoir 4. Dazed and Confused Jimmy Page - inspired by Jake Holmes Side Two 1. Your Time Is Gonna Come Jimmy Page - John Paul Jones 2. Black Mountain Side Jimmy Page 3. Communication Breakdown Jimmy Page - John Paul Jones - John Bonham 4. I Can't Quit You Baby Willie Dixon 5. How Many More Times Jimmy Page - John Paul Jones - John Bonham Am I the only one disappointed by the disappearance of George Hardie's "Led Zeppelin coming out of the clouds" logo that used to be on the back cover below the song credits?
  20. Some pieces I think you'll like in our current show, Sue (and maybe a few others here into Kaiju ). Joel Nakamura Bento Box June 6 29, 2014 Artist Reception: Friday, June 6th; 8-11 PM Bento is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice, fish or meat, with pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container. Containers range from disposable mass produced to hand crafted lacquerware. While readily available in convenience stores, bento shops, railway stations, and department stores, Japanese homemakers often spend time and energy on a carefully prepared lunch box for their spouse, child, or themselves. Joel Nakamuras latest exhibition, Bento Box, is a tribute to his Japanese-American upbringing. He has chosen to elaborately arrange his Bento Boxes to incorporate popular characters from Japanese culture (Maneki-neko, Ultraman), anime (Power Puff Girls, Tetsujin 28-go), monster movies (Godzilla) and fusion comfort cuisine (Spam). His poly-ethnic influences inspire comparison to Gajin Fujita, but with a tendency toward Kyaraben in addition to Ukiyoe.
  21. To be fair, she was talking about the remasters. She was relating the impact on her of the band's youthful raw performance of the companion audio of the December 10, 1969 Paris show as opposed to the 2007 "Celebration Day" performance.
  22. As you can plainly see from this photo, the shrinkwrap outside clearly says whether you have a box with a numbered art print inside. It is a little disconcerting and surprising, to say the least, to hear all these tales of damaged boxes, cracked bindings, etc. Luckily for me, that has not been the case...all of my Super Deluxe Boxes have been pristine, inside and out. That includes blemish-free CDs and vinyl discs. I guess that is one benefit to buying first-hand...you can inspect the box before buying it and choose one that meets your standards.
  23. Roll over Beethoven and tell luvlz2 the news...Chuck Berry was one of the original inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986!!!
