  1. I honestly don't remember music from the 80s being "dreary" in the least but I did love the Willie and the Poor Boys and Honeydrippers records back then. They were also responsible for me becoming more interested in rock n' roll from the 50s which led to me digging through my parents old records and finding some great sides from the likes of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checker and others.
  2. I never learned this until recently but Merry is the sister of Sam Clayton, drummer/percussionist for Little Feat (and Jimmy Buffett, among others).
  3. This may actually be something new as two Zeppelin programs are scheduled to air this evening. The first one airing at 9 pm is most likely the one we have all seen before while the one coming on at 10 pm does appear to be something new. “Led Zeppelin.” Wednesday, July 20 @ 9 pm ET Rated: TVPG Running Time: 60 Minutes Genre: Documentary Closed Captions: Yes Upcoming Showings: Wednesday, July 20 @ 9 pm ET A profile of the rock band that got its name when drummer Keith Moon predicted how the band would go over with audiences after hearing their demo tapes. Zeppelin's first album reached number 10 on the charts in 1969, and their popularity continued to grow with each subsequent album. But they were among the most hedonistic of all rock bands, and their indulgences led to a series of tragedies that ultimately broke up the band. Biography Channel Special “Led Zeppelin: Dazed and Confused” Wednesday, July 20 @ 10 pm ET Rated: TVPG Running Time: 60 Minutes Genre: Documentary Closed Captions: Yes Upcoming Showings: Wednesday, July 20 @ 10 pm ET Loaded with legendary music, rare footage and the bands full participation this program stands alone as the definitive doc on the iconic band Led Zeppelin. This one-hour special spans the bands career, from their humble beginnings to their status as rock gods. The unique chemistry between singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham led to tensions within the band, but were essential to their success. Take a journey where incredible heights and extreme lows helped forge one of the greatest rock bands ever. http://www.biography.com/listings/episode_details.do?episodeid=17185440&airingid=17185680
  4. I seriously doubt Robert Plant would have any part of a project that banked solely on nostalgia. As I seem to recall, Jones and Page were also keen on recording new material before embarking on any sort of tour.
  5. Knopfler during the fade out on the original studio version and kicking in somewhere after the 4 minute mark on this live version:
  6. That's exactly what I was referring to, which was the original plan following the 02.
  7. If Page, Plant, Jones and Jason Bonham were ever to actually launch a major tour I would hope it wouldn't be under the Zeppelin name and that there would be at least an album's worth of new material to draw from. Otherwise, it'd just be a nostalgia act.
  8. I wonder if this gives Europe grounds for a lawsuit?
  9. I also don't have a "problem" with Ady's post, nor was I arguing. I thought Ady was trying to use the "Embed" feature (see screenshot below) to post the clip here and I was attempting to explain that you can't use that feature of YouTube on this board, the only way to post videos here is by cutting and pasting the URL and then using the "Media" code to actually post it. In my experience, when you get the "Embedding Is Disabled By Request" error message on YouTube there is no Embed option at all.
  10. Your video posted using the Media feature does indeed appear in your previous post and is playable here. What I was referring to in my first reply to your original post is the "Embed" feature on YouTube. Using that will not work here but posting just the URL of the clip in conjunction with the Media button does work when posting videos from YouTube on this board.
  11. I only have one album by the James Gang from when Tommy Bolin was with them (Miami) but it's never quite grabbed me the way Joe Walsh-era James Gang did. Once I track down a new turntable I'll have to give it another spin. For me, the James Gang covered lots of the same ground the Eagles did years later but did it much better and much more convincingly. They were also free of the massive size egos of Henley and Frey which often overshadowed the music of the Eagles (and still do to this day, just ask Don Felder).
  12. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I am trying to help you. I will try to explain again. You cannot post a video on this board by using the "embedding" feature on YouTube. You have to cut and paste the URL for the YouTube clip by using the "Media" button (just as you did below). If you were to try to post a video here by using the Embed feature it would look like this: <object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8in8JeLk1I?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8in8JeLk1I?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8in8JeLk1I?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="390" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> Apparently, it does.
  13. Funny you should mention that particular record (also one of my very favorites) as a few weeks ago, the Deep Tracks channel on XM played "The Bomber: Closet Queen" / "Boléro"* / "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" and brought something to my attention (see the info below which was taken from Wikipedia) that I'm not sure I was aware of before: I'm not sure if this is what they're referring to in the Wiki entry but I know that at one time, MCA Records released some "Special Product" releases of albums that featured altered tracklists that removed certain tracks. I know I saw some Joe Walsh albums that were like this as well as a copy of James Gang Rides Again. I hope you were able to procure an original, unaltered copy. According to the announcer on XM, the track was fully restored for inclusion on the James Gang's Greatest Hits CD which came out in 2000.
  14. On this board you are not able to use the embedding code even if it is available. However, you can still post a YouTube video here just by cutting and pasting the URL using the "Media" button. I hope that helps explains it. I'm not sure how to make it any clearer.
  15. You can still post the video, you're unable to embed videos on this board anyway (at least by using the embed feature on YouTube). You just paste the YouTube url between the "media" code: http://youtu.be/AjE5DotNuw0
  16. I'll give Henley credit for that but the endless "farewell tours", overcharging for tickets (the Eagles paved the way), selling out to Wal-Mart (remember Henley's self-serving tirades against corporate greed?) and their more mediocre material ("Witchy Woman", "Take It To the Limit", etc.) that clogged the AM and FM airwaves in the 70s are what turned me off to them. I feel like their early material isn't bad but I'd sooner point to Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers (whom the Eagles were emulating) as the true pioneers of "country rock". I also don't mind some of their work during the Walsh years but I much prefer his tenure with The James Gang. Sadly, the James Gang seem to be largely forgotten. I thought their reunion shows from a few years back would bring more attention to them but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. There's a whole world of music of theirs out there to be discovered beyond "Walk Away" and "Funk #49" but that's all most people know thanks to Classic Rock radio.
  17. One thing about the rock n' roll business, you can never say never.
  18. I've watched that clip before but have never seen the entire concert. Would love to though.
  19. Thanks for the heads up on the DVD. Although the review definitely doesn't make me want to rush out and buy it, it still might make for a nice curio. I still break out that Willie and the Poor Boys record on occasion. It makes a very nice compliment to the Honeydrippers EP.
  20. Check out this video at around 1:25 and see "what bad music on the stereo" is in the 8-track.
  21. Or Zeppelin. Since the band itself is inactive at this point, there's only so many times you can have the "what is your favorite song, concert, album, etc." discussion and have it still remain fresh. That's not to say there's no more to learn about them because that's simply not true. This section is a wonderful asset to the board as it can be a great place to find out about other music that may interest you. Thing is, the board took a major hit (like all of them did) when people starting flocking to Facebook.
