    Am I missing something?

I thought each member was taxed on their individual earnings, so Plant ultimately had the choice to stay or leave the UK.

Was he under pressure from Page and Grant to join the band in Malibu and work on new material?

And if he was away from home anyway, would it not be better to keep busy with an album rather than have more spare time to mope around and miss his family?

I get why Plant is frustrated with his injury and the exile bit, but not why he was fuming at Page and Grant.

I think he felt / was pressured to record when he wanted time to heal  and be with his family either in or out of his country.

Can you produce the interview where he said that?

From Wikipedia on Presence.. book by Chris Welch..

"I spent the whole process in a wheelchair, so physically I was really frustrated. I think my vocal performance is pretty poor. It sounds strained and tired. The saving grace on the album was "Candy Store Rock" and "Achilles Last Stand". The rhythm section on that it was so inspired ... I was furious at Page and Peter Grant. I was just furious that I couldn't get back to the woman and the children that I loved. And I was thinking, is this rock'n'roll worth anything at all?"

Robert Plant wrote the lyrics in Malibu while recovering from a car accident. The band wrote the rest of the song in a German studio in about an hour. They had to finish the album quickly because the Rolling Stones needed to use the studio.

    • In an audio documentary on the band, Plant said that the lyrics reflected not only his physically trapped situation at the time, but his general frustrations with Jimmy Page and their manager Peter Grant, whom Plant was convinced weren't sensitive to his point of view. Hence the line, "I've got friends who would give me f--k all." However, he slurred the pronunciation of the F-bomb, hoping to dodge it onto the radio. Didn't work.

I was burned in the heat of the moment
Though it couldn't have been the heat of the day
When I learned how my time had been wasted,
(And a) tear fell as I turned away
Now I've got friends who will give me their shoulder,
Event I should happen to fall
Time and his bride growing older
I've got friends who will give me fuck all

    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala, my baby
    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala

On the corner of Bleeker and nowhere
In the land of not quite day
A shiver ran down my backbone
Face in the mirror turns grey
So I looked round to hitch up the reindeer
Searching hard trying to brighten the day
I turned around to look for the snowman
To my surprise he'd melted away, yeah

    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala, my baby
    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala

As the moon and the stars call the order
Inside my tides dance the ebb and sway
The sun in my soul's sinking lower
While the hope in my hands turns to clay
I don't ask that my field's full of clover
    I don't moan at opportunity's door
And if you ask my advice, take it slower
Then your story'd be your finest reward

    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala, my baby
    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala
Lost on the path to attainment
Search in the eyes of the wise
When I bled from the heart of the matter
I started bleeding without a disguise

    Now everything's fine under heaven
Now and then you've got to take time to pause
When you're down on the ground, don't be messin' around
Or you'll land in a boat without oars

    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala, my baby
    Lalalalalalalala, yeah
    Lalalalalalalala

Hey babe, Hey babe, Hey babe
    I lost my way

    Hey babe, hey babe
    I really, really, really

    Hey babe, hey babe
I don't know where I'm gonna find it

    Hey babe, hey babe
    Do you want to know
Do you really, really, want to help me, yeah?

Let me tell you now, babe
    Let me tell you
That it feels so good that it must be right

    Now my babe
    Let me tell you
That it feels so good that it must be right

    Now my babe
    Let me tell you
It just feels, it just feels, it just feels, it just feels so good
    So good, so good
    oh yeah

I read in an interview where Plant said he was very unhappy about Grant and Co. forcing him to go into tax exile after the accident in Greece. I swear I read this somewhere. Not making it up.  It wasn't just that he was angry at the British govt and their tax laws.

Well they had a summer tour planned that was canceled after Robert's accident. So, right or wrong they booked studio time to keep busy, stay out of the country and record Presence. Robert said he was furious at Jimmy and Peter that he had to be recording at the time and referenced the lyrics to Hots On For Nowhere as a dig at the 2 of them.

RIP John Wetton.  Veteran of King Crimson, Uriah Heep, UK, Asia, Wishbone Ash and more.

We've been losing progressive rock's finest bass players at an alarming rate lately, Chris then Greg and now John.  I hope Tony Levin (69) takes his vitamins!

Rest in Peace to a great singer and incredible bassist, John Wetton.

  5. Rest In Peace former Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nicholls aged 68 from cancer. Nicholls played on everything Black Sabbath released from Heaven and Hell (1980) thru Reunion (1998) and toured with the original lineup until 2004-5. He was one of Tony Iommi's closest friends and collaborators who stayed in the band through many ups and downs.

Geoff was a founding member of Quartz on guitar and Keyboards. He also continued to work with Sabbath bandmate Tony Martin for years after Martin left the band.

I know what thread this is because I started it. Nearly every passing is met with a variety of posts. Some are strictly RIP, while others are more free form in their content. I didn't just say Kate Jackson was hotter, I presented an obscure film they were both in. As far as I'm concerned that is keeping things on track. She has passed away and we were discussing her. Trump bashers, well they just can't help themselves. You could start a thread about how to repair an old VCR and they'd find a way to drag him into the discussion.

I know you started it and you tell people what you feel should and shouldn't be posted here. I feel and obviously some others do as well that a conversation about how hot Carrie Fisher is as Princess Leah belongs in a Star Wars thread... or the Beautiful Women thread, Not the Rest In Peace thread.  The Trump stuff here is just ridiculous, no argument from me on that.  Happy New Year

  7. I thought this was the all official LZ. com Rest In Peace thread...  where people are dying to get in .... not the Kate Jackson is hotter than Carrie Fisher or President Elect Trump is accused by some of rape thread..

keep it on track guys.. There are plenty of other threads for that stuff.

  8. ^I never got into Status Quo, but have always respected their dedication and longevity. Rest In Peace Rick Parfitt.  I'll always remember them kicking off Live Aid in 1985.

Also Rest In Peace to Howard Stern wack packer Joey Boots aged 49..

Whoever you are, you may be cool, but you will never be as cool as John Glenn, the First American to orbit the Earth in outer space.

I agree ...  I shook his hand. One of the few times I've been in awe meeting someone. He was almost 70 at the time and had a handshake like a vice grip.  Rest In Peace to a true American hero.

When did this happen?  Unreal.  I did not know this.  I saw them in Rochester back in the day.  They came up from under the stage.  Keith Emerson was incredible.  Plays his keyboard upside down and it was one hell of a concert.  I always thought they were one of the most unheralded and under rated bands ever.  Fabulous threesome like Rush were also.  Do you have any details of what happened to Lake?   As far as I know Emerson and Palmer are both alive?

Greg Lake died of Cancer. Keith Emerson committed suicide in March. He had severe problems with his right hand that affected his playing and was depressed from this.

A couple of days ago Jensen Ackles and his wife had twins and they named one of them "Zeppelin."

For those of you who don't know, Ackles plays the character "Dean Winchester" on the tv show "Supernatural." Dean Winchester is a huge Led Zeppelin fan; in one episode he sets a vinyl of the first album in his room in their hideout. He and his brother pretend to be detectives and FBI agents and borrow last names from rock stars; in one episode they were Page and Plant.

As much as I love the band, that's an awful name to saddle your kid with. Maybe your cat or dog, not your child. Thank God his favorite band wasn't The Sex Pistols.

I was definitely a Brady Bunch kid growing up, and Mrs. Brady reminded me of my own mother.  Just saw Florence on Dancing with the Stars, supporting contestant Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady).  Oh, the memories of those dear '70s shows.

    Rest in Peace, Florence Henderson.

    :(

My brother met her. He said she was exactly what you'd expect; friendly, warm beautiful, classy.

yeah Martin Birch engineered THE greatest live album of all time and Todd's production techniques were far ahead of the times. My only slight criticism of Todd is that when he produces other people, they do sound like a Todd album. I am a big fan, Mrs CP hates him

I rank Todd up there with Zappa and Bowie as one of great eclectic musical geniuses of our time. I met him a few years ago. He was very cool and approachable. No doubt way ahead of his time and with Bat Out Of Hell money in the bank, can do whatever he wants..

What a guy. He is without doubt the greatest man who ever mixed or recorded rock music. He would be my number one man who I would invite around the dinner table

Agreed.. with Martin Birch and Todd Rundgren not very far behind.

he did capture imo the greatest Bonham mix with only 3 mics.. Dyer Maker..not the best song but those drums sound unreal

Oh yes, a beauty of yesteryear!!!!!!!!  Is her name Gloria?  Do tell if you know.  I think I know who she is.  Stunning beauty from the 20s or 30s?  As for below posts, Sharon Case to me has lost a bit of her luster Paul?  What do you think?  I think Sam is hotter but Sam also seems to me to be a gymnast?   Agree?  But her and Chelsea who are both below are both very hot.

^^ I believe Fay Wray is the name of that girl in the message you quoted Rick--she being of "King Kong" fame if I remember right...

As far as Sharon Case goes, she hasn't lost anything for me...

Yes.. That's Fay Wray as Ann Darrow from the original King Kong (1933).  Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful women in film history.
