  1. Who knows. They're very different people.

Pure speculation on my part, but I remember reading something Richard Cole said claiming John Paul Jones told him if he was going to see Robert's solo band "to get there early because it goes straight downhill after the 3rd number". (from memory)

I can imagine that bothering Robert if he caught wind of it.

Robert himself said JPJ's critique about Pictures At Eleven was "I thought you could have done better than that old chap".

It might be something simple as that.

Jones was probably sick of Robert referring to everything Zeppelin related as "Page and I" "Me and Page" etc...

Are you stupid or something? It isn't his age that is relevant, it's his stature. I'd like to think that even a tree-hugging, Citizen of the World, Big Government loving commie leftist such as yourself can respect the fact that Billy Graham was America's Pastor.

He was a great Man. He stuck to his guns. True to The Word all the way through. Rest In Peace Reverend Billy Graham.

WOW, news alert...99 year old man dies. What a shocker. I wonder what the cause of death could have been. I tell ya, no one saw that coming.

Who said anything about it being a shocker? I didn't think this thread was intended to be shocking, but to show respect.

  3. Rest In Peace to Drummer Pat Torpey, age 64 due to difficulties from Parkinsons disease. Pat is best known as the Drummer for Mr Big.

He also toured with Robert Plant during the Now And Zen era. He filled in on Drums while Chris Blackwell was recovering from a hand/ arm injury and was playing more of a percussion role till he recovered.

Pat was a great drummer who bravely did what he could for as long as he could. Sympathies to his Family, Friends, Bandmates and Fans.

Rest In Peace also to longtime Foghat Bassist, Craig MacGregor due to lung cancer. Craig played on the classic albums, Night Shift, Foghat Live, Stone Blue and Boogie Motel. He was 68.

Craig is the third member of this great, and often overlooked band to pass on. Vocalist, Guitarist “Lonesome” Dave Peverett died in 2000. Lead, Slide Guitarist Rod Price died in 2005.

  4. Here we go again.. I was as guilty as the next in this debate.. But this is how I see it now.. It's a pointless argument.. Both bands were and are as big as any 2 bands can possibly get.. If you are talking "who's bigger Styx vs Kansas or Boston vs The Cars".. you might have something.. These 2 are only second to The Beatles as far as cultural impact.. IMO Zeppelin made the better albums.. The Stones have better singles. Keith Richards wrote some of the greatest riffs in the history of Rock and Roll. To say he can't play guitar is kind of silly. He plays well enough to get his point across. Jimmy Page was the greatest Producer in the history of Hard Rock.. Mick and Keith were no slouches behind the board either..

Led Zeppelin got to keep more concert money, not because they raised ticket prices, but because Peter Grant insisted they get a larger % of the gross. Big difference.. The Stones can charge hundreds for a ticket these days and get it.. If Led Zeppelin reformed tomorrow, they could write their own ticket and become Billionaires by the end of the year.. it's a tie.. I'd give my eye teeth to be in a band 1/10th as big as either of them... so wouldn't you..

REST IN PEACE...should have been inducted YEARS ago!

Ray Thomas, a founding member of British rock group The Moody Blues, has died at 76, months before the band is due to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

No doubt..Couldn't agree with you more. At least he knew they were finally going in.. But their timing stinks .. too little too late.

  8. Rest In Peace Producer / Engineer, the brilliant Chris Tsangarides aged 61. Chris worked with Black Sabbath Judas Priest Anvil, Lords Of The New Church to name 4 out of hundreds. You can see CT appear in This Is Anvil to witness what a consumate pro he was.

Also Rest In Peace to original Moody Blues Flutist and 2018 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee Ray Thomas aged 76.

On the Led Zeppelin 4 cd Box set, there is a quote about each studio album from one of the members..

Quote about the 4th album by John Paul Jones.

"Nobody ever compared us to Black Sabbath after this record!"

The guys in Led Zeppelin could dish out the critiques as good as the next band.. Robert Plant is a master of jabs.

So if you dish it out, you'd better be able to take some.. whether it's from Keith Richards or Pete Townsend or even Eric Clapton.

Dan Rather is an excellent interviewer. Just watched the whole thing. Very good. Geddy Lee is so down to earth. Check it out if you can.

Yes Chase, always good to hear from you my fellow Sabbath and Zeppelin brother.

Tony is suppose to remaster all the Martin albums with new material added on.

Thanks. You as well BledZabbath. They’ve lost 2 key members of that era with the passing of Cozy Powell and Geoff Nicholls.  I would guess Iommi will call on Bobby Rondinelli for the new tracks.  He was incredible on Cross Purposes.

Anyone here like the Martin era of Sabbath, and your thoughts as to why or why you don’t like it?

    Thank you.

Great lineup’s. Huge Cozy Powell fan. Tony Martin seemed to always be looking for a lyrical direction and he was an awkward frontman, but his voice was exceptional.   I don’t play those 5 Martin albums as much anymore but loved it as it was happening.

Supposedly Tony Iommi has talked to Martin about recording some new music. I would guess for a Martin years type compilation like the Dio years.

  13. Rest In Peace to Haruo Nakajima. 中島 春雄
    (January 1, 1929 – August 7, 2017)
He played Godzilla for twelve consecutive films, from Godzilla (1954) to Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972).

From B Movie Mania on fb

  14. Rest In Peace all listed above.

Ed Wood is in my top 10. Love Landau as Lugosi.

Linkin Park is a band my wife and daughters love and I think they have a pretty cool unique blend of styles. Such a shame.

Rest In Peace also to John Heard aged 71. He was great in everything I've ever seen him in. Especially a WGBH (PBS) Boston version of The Scarlet Letter with Meg Foster. Also in Cat People, Heaven Help Us, Home Alone, The Sopranos etc.. Under rated.

The only thing Presence lacks is low end.

Its a fantastic sounding record with Bonzos drums captured super crisply and shimmering guitars everywhere

No doubt due to JPJ's switch at the time to 4 and 8 string Alembics. There's low end, but a different clangy sound .. at least compared to his old Fender Jazz.

For Your Life to me is an exception. There's a wall of low frequency, boomy Bass.

Plus this was the guitar army album right..

John Bonham's Drums sound great.. But which kit was it? The long rumored, but no physical proof Ludwig Silver Sparkle, or one of his trusty Ludwig Green Sparkle kits.. ?

Maybe we should ask Jim McCarty.

  16. What surprised me most was that I thought only Robert sold his publishing. No question Jimmy deserves a bit more. He's made all of them millions more with the ReMasters.

Robert has never settled on anything since Zeppelin's demise. No lineup has  ever lasted more than 3 albums. I suppose Strange Sensation / Sensational Space Shifters are proving me wrong, but there were some great bands in there that he ended abruptly. It must be tough for a manager to sit by and watch that.
