  1. You will have to let us know if he talks about his episodes on Seinfeld. Here is one of the funniest moments I ever saw on network TV. The other moment in this episode he was making a move on Elaine in the car and she was thinking "who does this guy think he is?" and Keith was thinking "I'm Keith Hernandez!"
  2. My favorite of the many incarnations of In the Light. I prefer the "Take Me Home" lyrics. I also prefer the stripped down sound of this one and Plant's vocals.
  3. Houston 21 May 1977 "That was a blues-based thing from the turn of the century I guess originally. This is something that comes from around the same time, with a little bit of Zeppelin too." What an understatement. In My Time of Dying had a "little bit of Zeppelin". Just before that he said "and you'll see as the program takes shape". Plant could be so low key even in front of huge crowds going nuts. I don't know too many other frontmen who would say something like that in a low key way.
  4. Brooks Williams - a great singer-songwriter and a fantastic guitar player who writes good instrumentals too. I have seen him many times since he started out in the late 80s.
  5. Recently I heard Rockaway Beach by the Ramones in the supermarket. If you had told me in 1977 that I would ever hear Rockaway Beach in the supermarket I never would have believed it. What a great song.
  6. An amazing band in its prime, 1971, recorded live in a small studio setting with an audience, available on bootleg for years and finally released officially many years later. A fantastic release.
  7. I do like that movie but I had read the novel first and I liked that better. Here is another in an entirely differently vein: Koyannisqatsi
  8. This is not one line but when I first heard this song I knew Plant was really developing as a lyricist. It would be difficult to choose one line from this song. The whole thing works together so well. Her face is cracked from smiling, all the fears that she's been hiding And it seems that pretty soon, everybody's gonna know And her voice is sore from shouting, cheering winners who are losing And she worries if their days are few and soon they'll have to go She hears them talk of new ways to protect the home she lives in Then she wonders what it's all about when they break down the door. Her name is brown or white or black You know her very well, You hear her cries of mercy as the winners toll the bell. Oh, there is a train that leaves the station heading for your destination But the price you pay to nowhere has increased a dollar more Yes, it has! And if you walk you're gonna get there Although it takes a little longer And when you see it in the distance you will wring your hands and moan
  9. Seven Days in May The Man with the Golden Arm Aguirre, the Wrath of God Fitzcarraldo The Man Who Fell to Earth
  10. This album by Joshua Rifkin was my introduction to Scott Joplin.
  11. Scott Joplin recorded on a piano roll in 1916 a year before his death.
  12. Hats off to Liriodendron and Led Zeppelin Boots!
  13. Great poster for this festival. What a lineup. And what an introduction: "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome The Led Zeppelin!" Two weeks after Woodstock.
