Nitpicking Page (The quest for the best performance of 1975)
JMH replied to gibsonfan159's topic in Led Zeppelin Live
Sorry for the spam but it could have been like this with small changes to the established one: RR SA OTHAFA IMTOD TSRTS RS KASHMIR NQ WS XXX MD TU STH WLL (ENCORE) ENCORE Stairway in my opinion before MD as in 73 but for sure given the size of the song it would have been unrealistic to expect that. Not a very thorough thought process behind this one. more 75 picks to come, not that I ”demand” it as I often go through the existing ones while listening and the work is great, but out of general curiosity? Or was it all here already? Haven’t done the math. -

Spot on about 75 Dazed and 77 setlist. One of those things I would like to ask the guys about is the 75 setlist as the early one in 75 could have evolved into something very special. Work on Levee and Wanton Song was already almost perfected. Forget about HMMT and add something new instead. Anyway, 77 setlist was a major improvement (75 works only up untill Trampled), but the brainfart of OTT and cat strangle combination does not earn it a top spot. Light and shade one might say as the beginning of Achilles sounds always like a godsend after Page has finished his guitar wankery. Maybe he was on to something after all. It’s all about dynamics and calling the drum solo OTT was just a hint of what was to come later on… a lot of shade. -
I've been on 73 tour lately... Stoke, Vienna, Southampton, Mobile and now Offenburg.

Without that damn out of tune twelve string it would be quite the killer first half of a 75 show. Cheers, Mr. Gibson! -
The Omni Atlanta 77 new super 8 footage from ledzepfilm

This is a very good angle to get the stage presence. I like the footage a lot. -
The last one. Liriodendron remaster the way to go.
-
Yeah, jumped right into it without reading properly and was surprised by HMMT. Now, when will Wanton Song pop up?
-
The "original" source is pretty damn good already, isn't it? I just gave a short listen to some of it some weeks ago... It was No Label's revisited version.

How has the audio been processed?
-
This is a difficult one... this is a random go at it that for some reason seems to miss my favourite live tune, TSRTS. Other honorable mentions go to OTHAFA, IMTOD and TYG. 69: HMMT 70: HB 71: Need to think about this....WLL medleys are strong. 72: Dazed 73: Dazed 75: NQ 77: ALS 79: Kashmir 80: ALS

May very well have been the case. My concentration can have drifted off during DC already. -

That'll be interesting. Just had it on in the background and apart from the out of tune twelve string in TSRTS I cannot remember any train wrecks. Sounded like a solid 1975 show, with a good Plant and a very forceful IMTOD. -

Is 11.3. on the list? -

What happened to Plant's voice in 1972 ?
JMH replied to SolitudeIsBliss's topic in Led Zeppelin Live
That was the case, yes. Strained in multiple ways. I have been wondering the on/off nature 73-77 and that must have partially been related to staying up late and partying and just using the voice in the long nights. I think there’s nothing else that could explain it especially when it could go from worse to better during consecutive nights. What is weird thoughis that he usually came out a little bit more hoarse after longer breaks after 72. He used every inch of his voice. -

The work has already started in the 73 thread -

Holy thread revival! 28th of April is a top five from 77. 30th of May is top ten, if not top seven. Edit: need to do some math if TOP10 would include: 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 25th & 26th of June 28th of April 30th of May Leaves some room for a couple of MSG shows and Pontiac/ whatever

I remembered this is a good one but still was caught by surprise by the audio quality and the performance itself:

1977.05.21 Remastered Soundboard - 2023 Version
JMH replied to SteveZ98's topic in Led Zeppelin Live
Continuing on the bass/ drums... I am not a headphones man but use speakers and volume. Recently updated the surround system (finally) with a proper subwoofer so it is fun to hear (read feel) every bass drum kick. ...and to add that this specific show has a very lively Achilles from Bonham Page barely hanging on. Good stuff. -

^ How unfortunate that even AI could not sober Jimmy up! True about the drums and bass in general. Waiting for your EC work whenever it is that you (re)do those. Edit: AND 28th of July 73 if that is within salvation. -

Plowing through this one... It is good, although the original one was good too. It is great how an average or slightly above average show comes alive with a remaster like this. -
As good as 75 gets…
