  1. I have a few in-progress pictures. Unfortunately, I left y freakin' memory card in my computer when I booked it out of the house and into the car to get to the wedding before Michele started having a heart attack--(I said I'd be there by 1pm, I left my house at 12:25pm, and it's a 2 hour drive through the mountains....and it was pouring, so I knew it would be a little longer than expected). My friend Amy is going to share her pictures with me. She and her husband got a lot of great pictures, so they promised to share. As soon as I get them, I'll share.
  2. My friend got married today. Her wedding was a "small" one up in the mountains, overlooking the pine trees and the river. It was cold, and it had been raining for about 14 hours prior to the wedding, but at about the time we were all heading up there, it stopped raining and it ended up being a beautiful wedding. ...and I made her wedding cake--78 giant, Texas-sized muffin cupcakes from scratch, and people loved them! I had someone ask me where my friend "bought them!" Apparently, no one knew it was my first time ever attempting to decorate them with a decorating tip!
  3. Hah! I don't think I've EVER seen a real Big Boy in person... ..but I'm REALLY not a fan of JB's.
  4. LOL I posted on once, and then I felt like a knob.
  5. I love it! It's a great picture, ZosoDragon! GREAT one.
  6. I love it! It's a great picture, ZosoDragon! GREAT one.
  7. Lucy, that's great! I'd be happy about that too. I stayed home today because I was exhausted and I had a few things that I wanted to get done. I really didn't get much of anything done that was on my list, but I cleaned my house. It was pretty bad, so that's ben my happy thing. Also, many of my flowers in my yard are blooming. Yesss!
  8. Reading Charles' posts. I'm happy to see you're here, DZDOC.
  9. My friend told me that she's getting married today. I'm happy for her!
  10. Kat, that's awesome! I'm always happy to hear that kind of stuff! It's a symbol of hard work, really. I'm sure you're proud. lzfan715, that's also exciting! Exciting that you're officially allowed to take on such a responsibility. I'm happy because I'm busy working! I'm doing stuff to get ready for summer school, and even going to Office Max made me happy today, LOL.
  11. Yeah, my leg is reuining the cord, for sure. I noticed about a week ago that it was getting all twisted up and STAYING that way, and I was like, "great." Thanks!
  12. My AC adapter has a short in it because the wires are probably broken in it. Its not a bit deal, other than the fact the cord will soon stop working. The short is in the part of the cord that's been kinked countless times. It's because I sit the laptop on my LAP while plugged in, and the cord kinks from hitting my leg. It truly is the cord.
  13. Thanks, Footsteps and all the others who congradulated me! I'm working on it now. One thing that's annoying--my stupid AC adapter to my computer's got a short in it. I have to hold it down and hold it in place to keep it running. Meh. I ordered a new one online, but it could be a while before it shows up. I JUST bought a new one in November or December, it seems. It has the same issue the last one had--it got kinked where the plug goes in. I guess I won't be plugging it in when it's on my lap anymore. I had to buy one online because last time I needed one, they didn't sell them at the computer stores around here.
  14. I got hired for my first teaching job on Thursday. I'll be teaching 9th grade English in summer school this summer (thus my thread that I started about short stories/poetry). It's only summer school, but I was worried I wasn't going to get it. The principal said that he was interviewing eight people for two jobs, and two of my friends were also interviewing for the jobs. So to say the least, I was really estatic when he offered me a job, for the grade I wanted to teach! (he said there were openings for 9th and 12th, I wanted 9th) It's not a full-time job after summer, which means I have to keep looking for a contract job for next year. However, this extra experience will help me find a job, and I'll be making about $7K this summer, for two months' worth of work, (which is MUCH more than I have been making since I quit my job at the grocery store to student teach). I'm planning a unit on To Kill a Mockingbird right now, and I'm really super excited!! I start in June officially, but I'm already expected for staff meetings, etc.
  15. I'm glad to hear that things are moving along, Charles! It's truly good to hear. I was happy today when I showed up at my subbing job because I had the lady who I was subbing for tell me that "I was a good teacher, and I was appreciated." THEN one of my friends, who I sub for a lot, said that she "felt good knowing her classes were in my hands" when she decided to take a few extra days off from work after spring break. Sweet. (and there's another thing that made me really happy yesterday that I'll announce on Monday...)
  16. I just finished two books: Bondi's Brother by Irving Roth, it's about a Holocaust survivor. I subbed for a friend of mine Monday and Tuesday, and she was having her kids read the book. Each class was reading, both days, so I was able to read the entire book. It was very interesting, but like a lot of Holocaust books, it sometimes sounded the same. I also finished Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I read it once before, when I was in high school, and I really liked it then. I bought it about a year ago, with intent to re-read it. It's a great book set in the '30s about a black woman in the South. It's written in a phonetic version of the characters' dialect, so it's a bit hard to understand at first, though I started reading faster once I got used to it. It's a great story about a woman who finds love after wondering if it really happens. It's definitely a piece of feminist literature, but it's a wonderful, wonderful novel.
  17. While not a LOT like S.E. Hinton, Chris Crutcher is a good one. The books are usually about athletes who are high-school age, and they usually make a bad decision that turns into some kind of dire consequence. Stotan!, Running Loose, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes are some of the titles I can come up with off the top of my head. If you would like more suggestions, I'm sure the librarian at his school could help out. I'm currently reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
  18. "righting book's," eh? ..and are you talking to ME about the thong? (if so, I do remember saying I don't wanna see any men in thongs) LOL
  19. Thanks. It's just a summer position, but it will get me some much-needed experience AND money. I hope I do well. I really, really hope I do. I'm kind of wondering how many other people are interviewing...it seems that most of my friends didn't even see the opening. I've really been thinking about this. I really hate that I spend so much time taking care of my contacts, worrying about whether I packed an extra pair when I go on vacation, whether my glasses are in my purse, etc. I've worn glasses since I was 11, and my RX is -4.75, so I can't see much without lenses. I would be grateful if I could see well enough to take a shower without lenses--I think I may call up the doctor in town who has the best reputation (his office) and ask a few questions, or ask for literature about it because it would be well-worth it, considering my career depends on the health of my eyes, (how could an English teacher work if she couldn't see well enough to read?).
  20. I totally agree, Miss HD. It's a great picture, not that I'd expect anything less from you.
  21. I got a phone call today, which ended up being a really good one. I have a job interview--let's hope I'm teaching summer school!
  22. I got all of my housework and chores done before the weekend! I have no laundry to do this weekend, and my house is as clean as it's going to get. Hell, I even dusted this week! I have no dishes in the sink, the only laundry to do are the socks I took off about an hour ago, my kitchen's spic and span--the stainless steel's been polished, floor mopped, counters scrubbed. Does this mean I can be really lazy all spring break?
