hecube
So... what would Jimmy be miffed at? Not being included in the project or not being consulted about being in the project?
the chase
Thank you for digging that up hecube.. very interesting, It sounds like Dave Grohl was inviting Jimmy and JPJ to record with Foo Fighters at some point.. which really has nothing to do with Them Crooked Vultures.. But if Jimmy was upset about them forming TCV without hm.. I don't feel bad for him. Jimmy has about as much right to be upset about this as Taylor Hawkins would.. and he should have treated John Paul better in 1994. Maybe Jimmy could form a band with Taylor. I never even thought for a second it had anything to do with Jimmy.. They were playing with Jason. and I don't think JPJ went behind anyone's back.. Grohl talked about wanting to put a band together with Josh Homme and JPJ as far back as 2005. Edited October 21, 2012 by the chase
zepscoda
I haven’t listened to TCV in a while……………so I figured I’d start with Daffodils at the Roskilde Festival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGEaMtS4KsA Edited October 31, 2012 by zepscoda
zepscoda
Of course, if time allows, one just can’t listen to Daffodils and not jump right to Warsaw from the Reading show ( the best version of Warsaw IMHO ) JPJ is indeed from a planet unknown ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyvYnsG6FNc&feature=fvwrel Edited October 31, 2012 by zepscoda

Something around 15min mark right? I prefer Cologne '09 HD performance of both of those songs...
zepscoda
^ yes, that daf has the longer than normal solo....I've forgoten about Cologne, I'll have to listen to that tonight.
zepscoda
I think this is an interwiew from after that Cologne show......they had some great interviews. Dave mentions "fresh pots" in this one: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SUEdK0ZsMAE
jb126
Thanks for the concert links zepscoda, I don't think I'd seen those particular videos. Love the last minute of the first one (Spinning in Daffodils), and they seem to have so much fun together. JPJ on fire in "Warsaw". Alain gets no face time. Alain didn’t get mentioned much, but he was essential to the live performances. I have always been under the impression that he had little to no involvement with the recording of the album, it’s probably why he was treated , by the press, as a utility player and not a band member. If the second album ever comes to fruition , I wonder if it would be a 4 piece band at that point in the studio ?
zepscoda
Scumbag Blues from the Cologne show was greatness. Check this out w/ headphones and dial in on JPJ, not just during the bass and drums breakdown part, but the whole tune......your right Elderer Cologne was a great night........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF8Hug8ISMQ&playnext=1&list=PL6A2C81E7B3D5ACEE&feature=results_video

Be sure to find HD versions of them. Constant play on my player. Those channels-QOTSArchive and RegularJohhny have all TCV performances. Also that unreleased tune-Hwy1-is quite creepy. Its got that atmosphere about it...and that insane mandolin intro riff. Look for Cant Possibly Begin To Imagine bootleg in Tokyo, good stuff. zepscoda
I really dig Hwy 1 too, I'm looking forward to what the intro will sound like in the studio. For those not familiar with this tune, here is a link to the Rockpalast Highway 1 preformance : http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0LvfVIPzTQI JPJ uses a bass mandolin for this track made by Andy Manson: http://www.andymanson.com/the_john_paul_jones_collection/ or http://www.mandolin.org.uk/makers/andymanson1.php Edited November 3, 2012 by zepscoda

Elderer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdZps_2j2Tc They wanted to name themselves Caligula! Jones is master! This bootleg has been on my player since that upload. Very The Doors like tune. Josh in interview said that at the beginning that riff was complicated but then he simplified it. Brought it to Jones and he obviously arranged it.

When we last spoke you seemed quite ready to jump into a second album – is there still talk of that? Hmmm. Well, yes, it didn’t happen because everybody went their different ways. Josh had another child, so that kept him busy. There’s certainly an intention to do more music together and as soon as all our schedules pan out, that’s what we’ll do. I think we can do that sort of thing pretty quickly. So yes, I’d love to play with them again.

jb126
I hope JPJ changes his mind about "not wanting to do big tours again". Thanks Elderer.

Amstel
I had a chance to see Them Crooked Vultures in May of 2010 at The Aragon Ballroom in Chicago - it was one of, if not the best concert I've been to, and I've seen many good ones. That album they put out doesn't have a bad song on it - love Spinning In Daffodils. I hope they get together again, because there isn't an overwhelming supply of good music/musicians out there.
