Zeppelin Led
Why when this was played live Did the riff sound different. in the album its really high pitched what made that sound and why didn't it sound like that live
ledzepfilm
The studio version had 2 guitar tracks, one low and one high for that riff, I think. The live version he played the riff low, but then played the riff a couple frets higher for the 2nd time before Robert comes in.

ledzepfilm
Page did Dazed with the Yardbirds, so he brought it to Zeppelin. I don't think there was the lawsuit for that song. Zeppelin got sued for some Willie Dixon songs, I think.
LedZep342
Really, they got sewed for Willie Dixon songs?
ledzepfilm
Actually, Jake Holmes sued them: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/30/bad-times-worse-times-led-zeppelin-sued-for-copyright-infringement/
LedZep342
Jake Holmes wrote Dazed and Confused in 67', so wouldn't he have sewed the Yardbirds?
joey1985
somewhere on this forum are pictures of the court papers where Jake Holmes filed a lawsuit against Jimmy in 2010. The Yardbirds played a show with Jake in NYC when Jimmy was with the band and heard the song. You can find Dazed and Confused on "The Above Ground Sound of Jake Holmes" released June 67. Also, the "high pitch" guitar in the studio version is a pedal steel guitar that Jimmy is using.

joey1985
Another interesting fact is that Jake Holmes is one of the top Jingle writers around. He wrote the US army's "be all you can be" jingle in 79 among countless others. He is also a well known producer.

R.E.M. used it to great effect during the opening to "Orange Crush" during the Green World Tour back in '89.
