Stairway is NOT stolen
It comes that time where I am going to buy Led Zeppelin's 'The Song Remains The Same' DVD. The problem is I don't know which release I want to buy. Could someone give a detailed description of each version? There is this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Led-Zeppelin-Song-Remains-Same/dp/B00004D34H/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1412345368&sr=1-3&keywords=The+Song+Remains And there is this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Led-Zeppelin-Song-Remains-Same/dp/B009L4PJ0M/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1412345368&sr=1-2&keywords=The+Song+Remains

They are both just straight copies of the film. Get this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Led-Zeppelin-Song-Remains-Special/dp/B000WIZAZA/ref=sr_1_4?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1412347496&sr=1-4&keywords=The+Song+Remains+The+Same It's the second one with a bonus DVD featuring four additional songs, an interview, two newsclips and more depending on region. And if you only have the choice of the first and second, it's undoubtedly the second. While the first is just a "movie release" the second is a "concert film release" with audio remixed, special menus and imput from Jimmy. Get the one I suggested if you can, though. Matjaz1
The second one is definitely better in terms of sound of Stairway to heaven solo and additional Dazed and confused sections! The mix is more balanced on the second and you get additional songs, but the old one has got a more explosive, raw sound, that works well many times, as well as a very important additional section of No quarter and a far better final solo in Celebration day! MCAN
If you have a blu-ray player, buy the blu-ray. 5.1 channels of lossless Zep audio will rock your socks!!
Glyn
If you have a blu-ray player, buy the blu-ray. This. There is no release better than this one.

Oh sorry, my mistake, I hope it's still understandable, what I compared! Namely the old 1976 one and the 2007 one!
Rock Historian
To my ears, the original is much better. The remastered (recent version) is overpowered by guitar and at times drowning out the bass. (especially on DAC) The original has a better balance. The Old Hermit
My two cents (for what it's worth) on the subject; Film - the new 'Special Edition' version hands down; better sound, better picture. Album - the original 1976 version; sure the sound is better on the remastered version (obvious compression and artificial loudness notwithstanding), and it has additional tracks, but it's the exact same new mix as the film - needlessly so - whereas the 1976 version is it's own thing and overall has a more balanced and natural sound... and all the better for it. With hindsight, the 11 tracks played by the band onstage over the course of the film probably should have been the same 11 tracks for the accompanying soundtrack album, not necessarily note-for-note, edit-for-edit, but the same tracks from the same source, and when it came time to remaster the album, Jimmy Page should have left the album as it was and just remastered it without any further alterations... everyone wins, everyone happy. Just my own humble and fallible opinion, of course. Edited January 8, 2015 by The Old Hermit
chef free
While all the edits in the original were much more obvious, and therefore more irritating, the butchering of the oh-so-perfect guitar soloing in No Quarter make the new one totally unlistenable for me. Granted, I have been listening to the original since the day it was released in the States!
