  1. Well, I guess I have been ripped off. Here I sit shamed and disappointed in the failure of this thread to get an answer to my first question. Would've been nice if someone could have edified me before I actually paid for the pressed version. That's why I posted this thread in the first place. Juxtiphi mentioned Heywood but no details. The thread ran cold. Now you tell me I've been ripped off. Well, first of all I've never heard of Heywood. I've been trading for 10 years , on Tapecity , Dime, etc and I've heard of Eddie Edwards, Winston, dadgad, etal ...never Heywood or his remasters. Secondly, officially released stuff isn't possible to obtain on dime so it's difficult to get a show like this unless you're connected with people who are hip and will hook you up. No one did. Now, I'm made to look like an idiot for paying for a Heywood. I shared many silvers, low-gens, and worked on remasters with acapulcogold back in the day that ended up getting put out by boot labels...and posted my own declicked vinyl of Pb which Liquid Led and Wendy both used for their releases and wasn't acknowledged , so I suppose that's a form of rip off too. So yes, I was ripped off but hey...this release is better than the attempt I made ( aside from the aforementioned drum solo edit before WLL) , and I will enjoy listening to it again and again. I've spent $70 on meals that were entirely forgettable, and $150 every time a speed camera gets me so....fuck it. Again, no one had offered to lead me to the Heywood so that's why I bought the suckers edition. ?
  2. Update: I just got this release and it's excellent! The edits are done very well, to present a " complete " concert . They used the best versions ( IMO) of Celebration Day, No Quarter and SIBLY and added the funky jam bits from the official DVD title section to the funk / theramin section in WLL. The concert ends with the last nights encore of Thank You. The only disappointment was the drum solo between Heartbreaker and WLL wasn't spliced properly in time so it hiccups a beat. Definitely a worthwhile purchase .
  3. I ask this in all sincerity. Is there any really good reason, music wise, to get this new release if one already has the Empress Valley box set or other releases of this material? Is it sonically superior than previous releases, particularly the '71 show? Also, when I previewed Communication Breakdown on Spotify it was missing the Feel So Bad bit. Seems to me there is nothing revelatory with this set.
  4. My list , in chronological order. Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Walters Walk. Custard Pie, In My Time Of Dying, Kashmir, The Wanton Song, For Your Life. ? Bonhams two big floor tom bombs at the end of Custard Pie are perhaps his heaviest recorded fill. Devastating!
  5. A necessary form of censorship. I agree with the guidelines. There are plenty of other internet sites where one can discuss racism, xenophobia etc.
  6. Page's outgoing solo on the original SRTS soundtrack version is one of his best solos EVER recorded IMO. So funky and slinky and wicked good!!
  7. Seeing Jason playing Moby Dick in front of a screen showing footage of his dad does evoke some pathos. It would be like Ravi Coltrane or TS Monk playing tribute gigs in front of video of their dads. I dunno, it's not anything I'd want to see more than once. Nostalgia is bittersweet and it contains pain rooted in what can never be again, hence that sad feeling Thomasw536 noted. It's also a valuable commodity in this case. Hopefully Jason will focus on original music like the project with Glenn Hughes in addition to the Zep experience stuff, otherwise it does seem kind of sad to be always in the shadow of your father, paying tribute. He's a good drummer, not great though and while I'm sure he is happy honoring his dads legacy and loves playing those tunes I'd rather just listen to the original article and hear him play other music...though most of what I've heard (Hagar , Bonamassa ) is underwhelming. Also, this video is some cornball shit with these guys, but I guess it comes with the territory. I can't imagine Bonzo ever doing a video like this but then again times are so different now. It seems most artists have to do this check me out endorsement routine. Ludwig should make some $ off this deal though so....the wheel rolls on.
  8. Thanks for your reply! My photos are at the start of this thread and I added two more later. One of the mods posted some examples of the other night which he seems certain are from the 7th based on the photographer Laurance Ratner's dating. I know it was over 40 years ago but it seems that the memory of that experience is indelibly etched in your mind so - do you recall if Bonzo had the black spider shirt and bandana when you were there?
  9. I totally agree with this comment. Plant was very unique , with a great naturally powerful , emotive and distinctive voice and great stage presence. Can't be Zep without him and I wouldn't want to hear anyone else in his place but , cripes , sometimes he is just painful to listen to. Myee , myee, myee , myee!!! Push, push, ah, ah, ah, ah, !!! Before he lost his range in '72 he was a powerhouse - a true original as a rock vocalist , but he usually went to far with the 'squalling and bawling' as you put it... for my taste. By '73 his vocal range was largely shot and it's understandable why he may not be so keen on laying bare his shortcomings on an official live release from 75-80. I often wish I could isolate his vocal track and fade it down and just listen to the music. Case in point - the ending of Dazed when Jimmy wails over that groove - he always comes in scatting and shit , its a turd in the punchbowl moment for me! Like on HTWWW. Oww, oww, aiyee, aiyee .
  10. Sorry, I tried to make this as clear as possible. On my desktop the text is legible especially if you click on each image.
  11. Text is clearer/easier to read if you click on the individual images .
  12. Nice interview with Bonzo from July 27 1974 issue of 'Sounds' , a UK music paper. Sorry if this has already been posted but I thought it would be appreciated here.
  13. Agreed! I hope he reads this post and gives us an answer soon! Earl's Court would be a smash seller and a very appropriate choice. Were both nights that were filmed-May 24,25- recorded to multi track? Also, is there multi track audio for any 75 US shows or only soundboard feeds?
  14. There is a new boot release of TSRTS from a no label source which attempted to make as complete a concert as EV did with Grand Finale (which was not very well done) by combining known official and boot soundboards from all three nights. Does anyone have any feedback or reviews? I'm specifically wondering if they used exclusively the original soundtrack version of No Quarter. I'm also curious to hear if the edits and transitions are smooth and if While Lotta Love contains the funky jam which is also on the original 2 LP. ??
  15. Not a CD-R. Here's a brief definition. A silver pressed CD actually contains a physically stamped data layer, making it much more durable than CD-Rs. Google it! ?
  16. Totally agree. I hate seeing images that don't correspond to the actual music. I'd rather see a band shot and focus on whomever I choose that close ups of Bonzos face from anither song.
  17. Yeah, when I think of Fox News I think of counter culture , long haired , African American blues inspired rock and roll. Yeah, Fox news and Zeppelin. Maybe they should use some Janis Joplin and Hendrix too...throw some Floyd in there. Pigs on the wing. ?
  18. Amen to that! 18th is my favorite show over all. No Quarter is one of the all time best versions to my ears.
  19. Love this tune, they recycled the riff from Walters Walk. Bonzo's breaks at the end are epic.
  20. 11/6/69 Winterland ballroom - Page is on fire , clear guitar recording. 3/21/70 - Vancouver - Pb Zep's first bootleg 9/23/71 is a must , but all '71 Japan tour are worth having. 6/9/72 Charlotte is a very pleasant listen, wrongly criticized for being a "slow' show. It is a tight, relaxed and well paced and controlled performance. You need some Australian '72 shows. At least Melbourne or Adelaide. Those are killers! Get a couple more 73 US shows - LA Forum Bonzo's Birthday Party 5/31/73 and or 6/3/73 which is a better performance but an inconsistent tape fidelity wise. Kezar Stadium 6/2/73 is also one of their best shows from that tour, definitely worth having. 2/28/75 Baton Rouge is great especially the first 2/3rds of the concert. I prefer the audience tape ( Freezer ) , it has tremendous power. 5/18/75 Earl's Court is a monster and one of the best No Quarters, IMO.
  21. Nice , thank you! Never knew about this gig. Jonesy showing his Jamerson and Duck Dunn influences here. He sounds great! I just ordered the 2LP from Montreux Jazz Shop.
  22. Thanks for clarifying. Aha, OK. Well it appears the Chicago cops were brought in the second night to "serve and protect" in front of the stage. There are some pics that are mixed up on the timeline photos. After reading Camille Davis Russo's story I thought maybe the white satin was worn on the first night because she describes Jimmy as wearing it when she met them at the party after the gig on July 6 at the Court of The Golden Hand.
  23. Hi Camille, Thank you for sharing such a treasured memory in such rich detail. This is one of the most engaging reads about an encounter with Zeppelin that I've ever read. Wonderful! I sent you a pm as well.
  24. Can a mod or someone who is certain comment on this question? I thought these photos would be from July 7 not the 6th as I thought Bonzo was seen wearing the black shirt and black bandana on some pics from the 6th on the Zep timeline. Now however I see that there are a mix of the two different nights found on both dates in the timeline. Which is which? You can clearly see Chicago police officers in front of the stage the night Bonzo is wearing black and Jimmy has the white pants. Would that be the second night then since things were so violent the night before? Or would that be the first crazy night?
