  1. Agreed, although Page was really off most of that tour IMO while Bonzo was still pretty stalwart. Jones gets most reliable award for '77. The audience tape is much more enjoyable for 5/30. I remember seeing Jimmy in a pic from maybe a rehearsal for '77 show and he had a quaalude t-shirt. RORER 714 . That says a lot.
  2. Damn, I guess having a 14 year old muse is possible...but really fucked up.
  3. The 3 board discs sound better than Winston's , which is no small feat. The source sounds fuller and more dynamic. The edits are smooth. PM me if you'd link a link where to find a copy. It's a worthwhile title also for the audience tape , which is very enjoyable.
  4. Not sure where or when, but I remember reading Millard was delayed en route to the venue on 6/23/77...maybe someone else can corroborate?
  5. If you're reading this John Paul , happiest of birthdays to you! thank for for your diverse, wide ranging instrumental skills.
  6. Very true , most 77 shows would require major fixing. IMO, 77's best feature was the setlist. Every other aspect of the bands performances were inferior to previous tours. Except for the ever stalwart Jones. The more I listen to '77 shows, the less I want to listen again.
  7. Huh? Dazed and Moby are bad in your opinion on HTWWW? Not to me. Dazed is just off the hook bad ass, aside from the beginning of the jam when Jones and Page are in two different keys. LOL. The middle of Dazed '73 ( bow solo /jam section ) is more varied and may be " better" than in '72 , but that's just how it evolved. The way the band plays the head on HTWWW is so full of dynamic power and Plants voice is at its best. The ending is total Hammer of The Gods! Bonzo's solos on both versions of Moby Dick are brilliant but TSRTS is so chopped up, the editing is annoying. The version on HTWWW is much better in terms of continuity, his chops are incredible and I love the wood shell drum sound. I'm not a big fan of the compressed EQ job on HTWWW but I love Bonzo's green sparkle kit , especially the bass and toms. They have much more warmth and tone than the vistalites.
  8. I've seen that pic before, but never heard it was possibly the last. Didn't even know it was taken after the summer '80 tour. Bonzo's face looks quite sunburnt and he does indeed look very thin. Does anyone here know if any pics were taken during the rehearsals in Sep of '80?
  9. Yes, all good points. The percussive attack on the Alembic probably worked much better in the large halls , but it sounds like ass on a dry soundboard.
  10. 1977 soundboards in general. I'm listening now to Landover 5/25/77 and blech, what an awfully dry and flat sounding board tape, of which there are many in '77. Page's sloppiness and Plant's cracked voice are under a bright , fluorescent shine with all warts exposed. Page's solos sound like a Youtube shred video on these 77 boards! Also, I also do not like the sound of Jones Alembic on this tour. Audience tapes are much better for listening to 77.
  11. Ha, that's a funny Plantation. I'm ok with WLL live, mainly as a vehicle for stretching out on the old Rock and Roll and Blues numbers. '73 has some really nice funk grooves during the theramin solo with Jones and Bonzo at their finest. My main issues are the meandering overblown solo sections in Dazed '75 and No Quarter '77. Jimmy's playing was often too sloppy to be interesting for long stretches. And, Plants voice was pretty much fucked after '72. Not sure if warming up would help. He was kind of rock's best bad singer. Lot of straining going on in '73 and '75.

  13. Hopefully this isn't a clearance on the ones that had channel /distortion problems on The Ocean. The original pressing were apparently flawed but supposedly the issue was corrected with repressing. Google Steve Hoffman Zeppelin Ocean LP and you can read all about it. It's probably why these are selling for $49.
  14. Good catch. It is likely a double exposure or superimposed shot of Rufus Jones playing with Duke Ellingtons band on their UK tour of 1967. Dukes band wore light/ white jackets which the sleeves are partly visible on the trombone players. Speedy also played a dark pearl Premier kit on that tour so that has to be it.
  15. The horse is too dead, it's expired, it's off it's life, it's mortality has been issued, and its decomposed. Stop beating it!! Enjoy the bootlegs!
  16. Thats not correct about Speedy. He played with Basie, Duke Ellington and James Brown in the 60's. I have a few records with him playing. I think he was active even in the 80's. Rufus "Speedy" Jones Born May 27, 1936 Died April 25, 1990 (aged 53) Genres Jazz Occupation(s) Drummer Instruments Drums Years active 1950s–1990 Associated acts Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, Henry "Red" Allen, James Brown I suppose they could've used some stock session photos to create a hip montage . Were these pics used as promo?? That would make sense then.
  17. That's my thought too. I think there is video footage of this scene as well , might be wrong. They look more "officious" somehow than just groupies.
  18. Yes! Very much so. I still am fascinated by these images. It looks to me like a reflection of the control room glass, not a montage or superimposed but that's definitely a possibility.
  19. I like how she plays with individuality, not just attempting to play Jimmy's parts note for note. There is a cat from Japan who posted himself playing Jimmy's solos and other parts and it's impressive but I like this better. She plays with a lot of feeling for a 15 year old too. She is on her way to a bright future in music if she keeps it up. Wonderful to see such a young musician inspired by the greats ( look at the variety of artists on the wall behind her).
  20. There appears to be a film reel on stage at Bath. Was their performance filmed ? Edit: My bad, looks like a cable reel upon closer look.
  21. Another pic from the session. Anyone know who the drummer is?
  22. Ah I see, sorry. I thought that was a GIF made from DVD menu footage from that gig. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere on the dvd.
  23. I have read that the date is Sept 5 1966 on Page's website. Who is the drummer in the glass? Kenney Jones is the only name I could find related to that session, and that sure ain't him.
  24. Looks like Zach Galafanakis worked for Showco...talking to JP.
