  1. When I met him at The Kennedy Center Awards after party I asked him what he was working on and if he had some new projects . He said there were some " surprises for Zeppelin fans coming soon". That was obviously the remasters. He didn't say anything about playing or new music. I was too star struck and didn't have the balls to press him further about it but I really wanted to know! Now I wish I had when I had the chance. I wish I had asked if he missed playing with other musicians, if he has anyone in particular he'd like to collaborate with, etc. The fact that he wouldn't even jam on a blues at the Classic Rock Awards makes me think he really can't play well anymore , or he is seriously self -conscious about embarrassing himself in front of fans and other musicians. I would think his ego would spur him on to have a go on a tune or two but... we already beat that horse. I appreciate the body of work he's done, and that's about it. I don't look forward to anything more from him. Maybe some more live Zep material or previously unheard tracks.
  2. OK, I think there should be a new thread dedicated to the mysteries of SAJ. How do you know all this stuff and are able to reply so quickly with very specific details ? !! LOL! ? Seriously, it's damn impressive. Have you thought about writing a book on Zep?
  3. The Hawk is back in Chicago. Wind chill is -15 ° F.
  4. Fun read, thanks for posting. Feels good to have an expert's affirmation of my gripes. I'll stick with Empress Valley's Complete BBC Sessions.
  5. 1 hour ago, Bozoso73 said: Wow, you were late to the party! ?
  6. Wish I could make out the print on the scoreboard. Pretty sure that's from 75, not 73.
  7. I'll pm you soon with some recommendations.
  8. It's cool, I've bought and sold many times with them. It's a marketplace like eBay only much nicer , more personalized customer service than shitty eBay and way less commission and seller fees. It's the best way to go to sell gear online. They're based in my hometown of Chicago, IL. You speak to someone in Chicago if you have an issue. Not a robotron phone rep in Southeast Asia.
  9. Thanks for posting the pics. If the audience tape is as much of an improvement over previous releases as the soundboard then I think I may go for it. Correct, the audience is not as clear as the best sources from 9/23 but its still very enjoyable as a contrast to hear the ambience of the venue compared to the soundboard.
  10. Thanks, Autumn Moon for the detailed review. I'm curious to know what you think of the audience source on this release? I actually love that tape and Scorpio's Smoke gets In Your Eyes is my favorite release. Also, wondered if you could possible share some pics of the set?
  11. Sounds like me, but there were many like that. I am born in 66 in Chicago and doodled all over my notebooks . I went to Lane Tech. I remember that morning very well when a classmate told me the news. I didn't believe him at first but he said Patty Haze on WMET was crying and that was when I believed him.
  12. Unless you want the packaging for aesthetic purposes, you're better off $ wise downloading shows from torrent trading sites. Many people post lossless rips of silver disc bootleg releases. There are also tons of fan shared low gen sources , matrixes, merges ...many of which bootleggers have simply downloaded and pressed onto silvers, did some fancy artwork and then sell to bootleg addicted desperadoes for $$$. You're basically paying for the artwork. The sounds are free if you're able to download a torrent file. I prefer to share freely. And yes, most of those companies still exist ( not TDOLZ) . You can easily find reviews on the internet.
  13. I have Empress's Valleys Dinosaur In Motion and a low gen 2 source mix that seems very similar to the Empress Valley title. Maybe they used that mix. Both are excellent. Check the online torrent sharing sites.
  14. Great pics, thank you for sharing. Sadly, a very dark time for the band. Maybe it's because we know what happened backstage and what was about to happen to Plant's son but these pics and this gig seem to exude sadness. One of the few Zep shows that I don't care to listen to.
  15. Excellent summary , Strider. I love when Bonzo stomps his bass drum and shouts " Zeppelin , louder, louder" ...then the explosion of Immigrant Song. A great bootleg moment. I also get a laugh every time I hear Plant admonish the audience before Stairway , about being much too quiet, too silly , fast asleep. LOL! Just a fucking epic show all around.
  16. Personal taste indeed. I strongly disagree, Page was clearly more versatile than Stevie. Consider all the variety of styles and influences represented in the Zeppelin catalog compared to Stevie's. The different effects that Jimmy either pioneered or commanded in his arsenal, the use of alternate tunings, the variety of sonics, the compositional variety. I'm certain that his experience in the London session scene contributed to his versatility. Stevie was a great blues player, but he didn't have that breadth of variety. Also, when did Stevie Ray Vaughan play Jazz? He is by no means a jazz player. Talk about rather rubbish! Still, Jimmy was sloppier.
  17. It's baffling to me that all this aggravation and subsequent expense of discounting or refunding tickets could've been avoided if Jimmy would've just jammed on a fucking blues number! SMH
  18. Dare I say , Bonham's anals went down on that show?
  19. If you really must have silver disc sets with pretty artwork and packaging then collectorsmusicreviews.com is a good resource for up to date comparisons. Downloading lossless shows from trading sites is much more economical than shelling out $$$ for silver disc releases. In many cases the fan made releases are better than the silvers , and often times EV, godfather, tarantula etal simply rip and burn what is freely available for download on a torrent site. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious . You can also check out bootledz for comparisons, though generally not a good resource for critical comparison, and argenteumastrum.
  20. Well, whatever the issue was he comes back and plays Moby Dick (despite protesting he doesnt want to ) and plays the shit out of the drums. That is an epic solo! Mind over matter.
  21. Also, this thread title should be "Was Jimmy Page a Sloppy Player". Jimmy Page doesn't play anymore, as woefully demonstrated by his absence from the live music scene for years and his refusal/unwillingness to strap on a guitar and jam on a blues in Tokyo recently.
  22. Agreed , on all counts. Jimmy Page, innovator , soulful, creative, multi- faceted and sloppy. SRV was most definitely a one or two dimensional player. A great modern blues player and that's about it. I really liked his playing though and when I heard him live at the University of Chicago in 1983 I was blown away. But most of his solos sound the same and I only listen to him once in a great while. However, Page I can listen to everyday, except for 77 and 80. No comparison as far as interesting soundscapes and compositions. Page had a way bigger arsenal of styles and sounds. SRV was way more precise than Page live but not as musically broad .
