  1. The common thinking is that this soundcheck is also not from Chicago 73 either. Robert's voice was in god-awful shape in Chicago while on this soundcheck he's quite clear and strong. The precise venue and date of the soundcheck is a mystery but its a gem of a recording with Wanton Song, The Rover and Night Flight plus the extended workouts on some great rock n roll classics.
  2. All in the wrists. That's where Bonzo got the snap on his hits.
  3. When this interlude first started evolving in late 72, the lyrics matched the music. Cowgirl In the Sand by Neil Young. Robert quickly adapted the San Francisco lyrics, of course, from about Ally Pally through all of 73 and the first leg of 75. Then as the mood struck him San Fran, Woodstock, For What It's Worth. I think the best Woodstock is the 4th night at Earls Court. San Fran is a tough call, there are so many. Shows late in either leg of the 73 North American tour generally have that relaxed, spacey feel that makes this section work. But the music was clearly adapted from Cowgirl In the Sand. Where Neil was picking individual notes, Jimmy would play many of them as riffs. Then, as stated above, Jimmy worked out the note progression as the intro to this interlude that wound up in Achilles Last Stand. Funny how the first time a mass audience heard San Fran was on TSRTS soundtrack. After Presence was released. It all seemed so natural.
  4. Origin of the Species by Alan Clayson is a very good book.
  5. Full shows (or close to it): Royal Albert Hall 9 Jan 1970 Madison Square Garden July 1973 (The Song Remains the Same film) Earls Court May 24 + 25, 1975 Kingdome, Seattle 17 July 1977 Knebworth Aug 4 + 11, 1979 Then again Danish TV 1969 might be considered a full show as well.
  6. A fine choice and welcome to the board! All the best elements of the band certainly came together on TYG. Some brilliant live performances of the song in 1977 if you're so inclined to seek them out. Here's an excerpt of Jimmy working on the song in its formative stages.
  7. Mama come here quick, Bring me that lickin stick. Licka licka licka licka licka licka licka licka licka licka licka, c'mon.
  8. 1. The two Communication Breakdown promo videos from 69. 2. Very short bits from the Fillmore East 1/31/69. 3. Danish TV March 69, of course. 4. "Dazed and Confused" on the Supershow film. 5. "You Shook Me" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" which were mimed for the Beat Club programme also in March. 6. Backstage clips with The Who at Columbia, Maryland 5/25/69. 7. The "Tous en Scene" French TV programme in June 69 (Communication Breakdown + Dazed and Confused). 8. Short clips of Atlanta 69, Charlotte 70, Reykjavik 70, Germany in July 70 and Honolulu 70. A bit of googling will lead to any and all of these items. We're also resolved to hold the good Professor Chibnall to his claim that 2020 is the year we'd see Peter Whitehead's Bath 1970 film. As the distinguished Judge Smails once said "Well?......We're waiting."
  9. Fair enough, Strider, but there was the time Zeppelin were in Salt Lake (73) and referred to it as the midwest. That was my reference. But I'm with you, a bit of southern style would've fit nicely.
  10. Don't recall it I'm doubling up on this but only had an hour to kill!
  11. They may have thought it was in the midwest like Salt Lake City. 🙃
  12. I may be taking a stab in the dark but I think it was Dallas 73, as retriever mentioned Fractured Ribs. I had - still have - Luis Rey's book as a guide; he generally described many soundboards as 'raw' and this one he called 'Zeppelin stripped to the bone.' So true! But lift the low ends way up on the EQ and you can give it some kick. Generally the boards will put en extra spotlight on Bonzo's drumming. In some cases it's fascinating to be able dig into his brilliance!
  13. Thanks to LedZepFilm for uploading. "Special thanks to the filmer, Steve Mucha, as well as goldenretriever157 for getting this transferred and released, with sync job by myself. Sadly, the original reels no longer exist (Steve and a friend each shot footage) so the edits are native to the VHS source. Although short and blurry, there are some great Bonham moments in here and you can even see sparks behind the stage during the bow solo, a detail I've never noticed. Enjoy!"
  14. Live in the studio? Oh well, there's nowhere to post studio sessions.
  15. Last night it was 5/24/75. Tonight it's 5/25. I'll hold the full length video uploads under my hat!
  16. Brilliant! Thanks, Sam. And bravo Mr. Westgor. Hmmm, would anyone else have been tempted to insist on handing Black Beauty to Jimmy personally? What a moment!
  17. I heard Lickin' Stick on the radio this morning! Karma!!
