Las Vegas 1969 "He was always looking for a lot of weird guitars: every kind of antique guitar there ever was he'd collect. And of course he was a big Elvis fan. I arranged for him and the whole band to go to Las Vegas and go to the OPENING OF ELVIS PRESLEY. On each table was a boxed set of Elvis Presley records called 1969 which now go for $500. They each got one of those little boxes and they got to meet Elvis." .............. Elvis Time Line....... 3. ...tks for posting this link E.L...I have read this already, sorry, I meant the Elvis Site....I was reading/looking at photos on Elvis Site for any Zep/Las Vegas Connection...Elvis Associate Jerry Schilling seems to be intriguing.... P.S. there is no chance of Jimmy/Elvis Photo, as Miss P. writes, see Previous Post, Jimmy did not want to meet Elvis...I doubt he met him in 1969.... :D
  4. ...Indeed E.L....you said it right....Truly Exceptional
  5. Tks E.L. The King is awesome as always...There is no reference to 1969 Led Zeppelin/Las Vegas Connection so far....
  6. The Las Vegas Live Thread has produced further The King/Zep connections...Here are some stories via links... http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http...sa%3DG%26um%3D1 http://www.elvis.com.au/presley/interview_...schilling.shtml http://www.elvispresleymusic.com.au/pictur...974_may_11.html Hal B. Wallis, producer of 8 Elvis films, dreamed of making a western starring John Wayne and Elvis. In 1973 he met with Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and John Paul Jones in Los Angeles. An idol to the members of Led Zeppelin, Elvis wanted to meet "who was outselling him" at concerts (Zeppelin was in the midst of a record-breaking tour that year). A meeting was arranged with two of the four band members (Plant and Jones). Plant was so awestruck at meeting his idol in person that he could barely speak to him. Jones, nearly as awestruck as Plant, made small talk with the "King," and mentioned what a beautiful watch Elvis wore. Elvis, always the generous one, instantly traded his $5,000 gold and diamond watch for Jones' $10 Mickey Mouse watch. This broke the ice with all of them, and they became fast friends. Throughout the early '70s, members of Led Zeppelin even attended a few of Elvis' concerts, and were granted the privilege of sitting in the front row by the King himself. http://elvispresley-music-memorabilia.com/TRIVIA.aspx ......... According to the New York Post, in Me and a Guy Named Elvis, which hits stores next month, author Jerry Schilling, a key member of Presley's Memphis Mafia, recalls one night when John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin stopped by with a few friends to meet Elvis and found him decked out in pajamas.Elvis "stood, eyed John, and said, 'Let's swap pants,' while simultaneously, in expert [Monty] Python fashion, letting his pajama bottoms drop beneath his robe. John burst out laughing. Nobody accepted Elvis' offer." Elvis loved to tweak performers who did his act. One night in Las Vegas, he passed a lounge where a burly singer was "overdoing the Elvis vibrato just a bit," the author says. http://www.elvis.com.au/presley/books/book...ed_elvis2.shtml

  8. The Late Steve Weiss to Danny Goldberg....Led Zep 1973 Tour.... Goldberg writes.... Weiss was known for having a volcanic temper, and I winced when I realized his call was not to congratulate me but to complain. Some of the newspaper articles, he observed, had included a reference to the gross revenue of Zeppelin's concerts. ............. Weiss implied that the large numbers invited the scrutiny of the IRS. I solemnly promised that such information would never come from me again. Later it occurred to me that IRS had agents who were perfectly capable of doing multiplications (OH Really, I can't believe it!!! :D ) and that Weiss's real concern might have been that members of the band might question where all the money went... Danny also writes "Weiss was known for having a volcanic temper"........... Interesting Book - Bumping into Geniuses ....
  9. tks Aqua for the writing....same feelings here...(I was very removed from the 80's music scene...didn't follow much anybody...but reading this entire thread...one of my fav's...I realized how brilliant Jimmy is...but it was just sign of times...new generations and new music...I will say this bit about the 80's....it was time of confusion for music industry in general.... But again, Page is brilliant looking at his performances... Paul Rodgers is fine too...really not much to complain or to criticize for the sake of criticism... ....anyhow, the 80's were a life-changing experience for me....I was for sure in a different world.....
  10. Miss P...I am with Band.. August 12....Anaheim Stadium, 8,500 screaming raging people, a twenty five minute standing ovation...........Jimmy and I smoked and drank at the The Ex and went back to the hotel.... ........We're off to Vegas now to see Mr. Presley......... We stayed in the elegant suite with a king-sized bed up on a platform, and sat right in the front row to see the King reclaim his throne. He was wearing black leather and looked like ten gree Gods as he tore through "Love me Tender,"Don't be cruel, and jailhouse rock.".........He was sweating, he was in the flesh, he was alive, inhaling and exhaling. And there I was in Vegas, breathing the same air as Elvis Presley, sitting with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, completely and entirely beside myself. Some sideburned grease monkey appeared after the show, asking Jimmy if he would like to meet Elvis. He said "No", thank you," and I never quite got over it.... ......... Prior to August 12, and after August 6...she also writes....On his day off, we stayed in my bedroom, listening to the test pressing of Led Zeppelin II over and over again while he took reams of notes......... not edited...
  11. It is difficult for Jimmy Page, at this age, to be involved in anything else, to him Led Zeppelin is just Led Zeppelin, and everything else is just everything else......It is very tough to be a perfectionist....His vision just cannot match anything.... Difficult as it for myself along with fans...I totally respect his dedication to Led Zeppelin....it too has its benefits for the future of music and certainly respect for Jimmy Page........
  12. Guitarworld 1986 - Jimmy Page Cover Issue excerpts from Danny Goldberg: "Page, int the beginning was responsible for most of the musical moves of the band but as time went on Robert plant took a larger role in those decisions. " "I watched that {relationship between Page and Plant} change. Earlier, Jimmy really dominated the relationship completely. And the was the founder of the group, the producer of the records, wrote the music and was just the psychic center of the group. And basically somewhat dominated Robert. Although Robert had his own life and his own thing, Jimmy was the stronger of the two in that relationship. Although Robert did write the lyrics Jimmy was the senior. At times when they would disagree with something, if Jimmy was vehement about something Robert would go along with that. "But as time went by and Robert got older, Robert became more and more independent to the point where now, Robert is the stronger. He's certainly the more successful. But I would say by the end of Zeppelin, Robert had got the confidence to assert himself as an absolute equal." "In the beginning years Robert was happy to have the job as a vocalist in Led Zeppelin." "So Robert had the odyssey of being the new kid, barely able to get and keep the job, through ultimately becoming the most successful solo member of the group." .............. "I think Jimmy has the talent at any moment to be successful as anyone can be in the music business but I think he's more troubled. But I think Robert had a more specific vision of who he is as a solo artist. And Robert had the advantage of being the singer........" "So I think Jimmy's influence is not only as a guitarist but I always thought his true and greatest genius was as writer and producer. "He stands alone as a conceptualizer of what rock band should sound like. And greatness of Zeppelin comes from him as a writer and a producer..." ...not edited for spelling...
  13. "We never reveal financial information,"...."Just the attendance figures" Who could it be?...You can start with a logical guess $$$

  15. ....... Karen Carpenter connection reported from Hammer of Gods...Zep Tour 1975... Bonzo had been furious when he arrived in Chicago to learn that he had placed below Karen Carpenter in the drummer's category of the Playboy music poll.... I'll guess Bonzo or Richard Cole...?
  16. ....It was just a question. I suppose you are right, we get info. after the decisions by Page...As for further friendships in the Entertainment Industry in general...particularly the piece about Jeff Beck...I am with you on this...He is a brilliant musician....I think he needs to share his gifted vision in every way, Cinema, Composing, Playing Guitar....whatever...that is the part I don't understand either...tks. Gliicine...
  17. ....I wonder how/if Ross Halfin is influential in Jimmy's professional career....(or is this too personal)...I realize in the end it's Page's decision as we know now, but it's not that Ross is not totally unaware of the issues here...
