JABLES
Anyone know of the types of guitar tunings that Jimmy uses? I know he has been known to experiment with alternate tunings but everytime i look up LZ guitar tabs, they don't always show what tuning it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Sam

Thanks Sam Aside from standard tuning he uses for instance drop D or open G in songs like Thats the Way (from III) and Bronyaur and Going to Cal and in the slide song (In MY Time of Dying) uses c tuning. cgcgce. Actually tunes the 2 string or b string up to c.

Thanks Sam Open G tunings (DGDGBD low to high): That's The Way Black Country Woman In My Time of Dying - the studio version tunes up (2, 3, & 4th strings) instead of tuning down strings 1 5 and 6. I suggest either (1) capoing on the second fret instead although the slide is tougher to do or play the normal open G tuning like Page did live. Almost-open G tuning (DADGBD): Going to California Open D tunings (DADF#AD): Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - capo to the 3rd fret - almost the same as playing in open G, which is what Page did live. Dropped D tuning (DADGBE): Ten Years Gone Royal Orleans Gsus4 tuning (DGCGCD): The Rain Song Some sort of D suspended: (DADGAD): Black Mountain Side Kashmir - which is why Black Mountain Side segued into Kashmir live Open C tuning (CACGCE): Friends Bron-Yr-Aur Other C-type tuning (CGCEGC): Hats Off to (Roy) Harper

Thorzep
Is No Quarter in Drop D as well?? No Quarter is played in standard tuning. On TSRTS it's in Dm. On HOTH it's in Dbm. A half step down. I suspect that they played it in Dm and slowed the tape. I read an interview with Jimmy where he said that he used this technique of slowing the tape on WTLB. (Originally played in open G, then slowed so that it sounds like F). All the riffs and chords in NQ are easily played in standard tuning in either key so I can't see why there would be an open tuning. But I have heard this question before. Thorzep
Only disqagree with In my Time of Dying. Is in C tuing. cgcgce AND IS ALL SLIDE Check it out again. Studio version is: Open A (EAEAC#E) Live Version is: Open G (DGDGBD) No need for a capo.
Thorzep
Almost-open G tuning (DADGBD): Going to California Gsus4 tuning (DGCGCD): The Rain Song Some sort of D suspended: (DADGAD): Black Mountain Side Kashmir - which is why Black Mountain Side segued into Kashmir live Pretty sure GTC is in open G (DGDGBD) That way you can drone on the low open G string for the verses. (You may be right, but this way works very well) Rain Song live is up a whole step. (EADADE) "Some sort of D suspended: (DADGAD)" Jimmy calls this his CIA tuning. JimmyPageZoSo56
DADGAD (WS/BMS and Kashmir) DGDGBD (Going to California/That's the Way) CFCFAC (Bron-Y-Aur Stomp) EAEAC#E (In My Time of Dying) EACFAC (When the Levee Breaks)* DCGCGD (The Rain Song studio) EADADE (The Rain Song live) DADGBE (Moby Dick) * only the 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st strings are used
Thorzep
EACFAC (When the Levee Breaks)* That works, but he actually played: DGDGBD and they slowed down the tape.
