I play drums not guitar.. But a close friend of mine, who's an excellent guitarist swears by them.. It's pretty much all he plays.

Their Drum sets are great quality as well.

i'd say go for it.

Gretsch's are fantastic. You really can't go wrong with a 5120 which is basically a second tier version of the Gretsch 6120 which run around $3,000 depending. The 5120 from their Electromatic series runs about $700, but the sound is there, very rockabilly, lots of swing, amazing resonance. For the extra $2,300, I'm not sure that it's entirely worth it to go for the whole hog 6120 unless you are a huuuge Chet Atkins or Brian Setzer fan.

great guitars !

Mind you, they are still basically jazzboxes. big hollowbody guitars.

suitable for some music, less suitable for other styles.

If you are looking for a big hardrock/metal speedpickin' tone, you might want to look into something different.

with lots of gain, they will feedback your brains out.

They are divine for blues/rockabilly, pop, sixtiesstuff jazzy stuff and funk and anything else you can think of.
