Mouthwatering Cuisine For All

I agree, most of that food looked gross. Which is perhaps why I'm Not fat, lol.

Me neither. I rarely eat fast food like McDonalds (although they have great fries), most deep fried food, not a lot of soda either. I also don't use artificial sweetners or anything like that. I hate that stuff and I think they're bad news. Always better to go with something real than synthetic. You don't have to read every package and every bit of nutritional info for calories, grams of fat, sugar etc. Just don't go crazy on this stuff and don't eat late at night, before going to bed or waking up and doing the same and going back to bed.

The key to all of this is variety, moderation and cutting down the portions. Some of these restaurants give you a portion enough for a family of four. It's ridiculous and so many people feel if they're not getting a huge plateful of food, they're being gypted. All you have to do is witness the feeding frenzy that goes on at one of those buffets at a Las Vegas casino. It's all you can eat for lets say $14.99 and these people have plates towering with food and they keep coming back for more. Look at some of them and no wonder. They have themselves to blame for this, but some of it is shoved right at them. They just need to do something about it and have the will power to do it. Then you wonder why there is an obesity problem in the U.S.

I couldn't tell you the last time I ate fast food. Years and years. I don't use artificial sweeteners either. They're toxic, to say the least. Moderation is definitely key. You look at French cuisine for example, and it's very rich - cream sauces, wine, chocolate etc. but they eat really small portions and walk everywhere. I also find eating smaller meals more often helps. I try to eat every 4-5 hours so three meals, a snack (healthy) and if I'm hungry, I'll eat veggies. Plus exercise is also important.

Very valid points and Dzldoc mentioning a good metablism helps too. Look at Italian cuisine as well with all the pasta (carbs). I've been to Italy and France and the portions aren't like that in the U.S. (Two of my favorite cuisines!) But if you go to upscale establishments here, you won't get the mountains of food. Meals like those are what they should be. After, you feel satisfied, but not bloated and almost always a great dining experience.

Yeah being slim doesn't always guaranty a lifetime of health. :(

That's unfortunately true :(

The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest in the world. People get very freaked out by carbohydrates which is a shame because the right carbs are very important to have. You're right about the portions there being much smaller than here. I know a lot of this was covered in that movie "Supersized" but I have yet to see it. I want to in some ways but I'm sure it's very disturbing.

Europeans also make eating an event - dinners last much longer and food isn't brought out in five minutes to gobble down. Another reason you don't walk away overstuffed.

I have never done the program, but the South Beach Diet book has a great explanation of how carbs are metabolized. I do the common sense stuff (fruit/veggies, lean meats and less of them, good fats, whole grains etc.).

I have to work a lot harder at it and be very disciplined now that I've hit my 40s; that's why I started running. I use dailyplate.com to log in my calories and exercise; generally following Weight Watchers food guidelines.

Oh wow - most of those pictures is not what I want to see first thing in the morning! vomit-smiley-9529.gif But I must admit I've heard about those Deep Fried Twinkies / Smores / Snickers etc. I wouldn't mind trying one of those.

I know people who have done the South Beach diet - they lost weight but couldn't maintain it and ended up gaining most of it back. I follow Dr. Joy Bauer's "Life" diet. It's pretty much how I eat anyways - lots of veggies, good protein/carbs, portion control and she does allow you to have "treat" food in moderation.

A lot of the time, if I go out to eat, I order from the kids' menu, or just a plate of appetizers. B) Because it is so ridiculous how much food restaurants give you. And what really bothers me, is how much of that food goes into the dumpster. I know I can't possibly be the only person in the world who can't polish off 2 plate-sized pancakes or a fry-mountain...but yet, I feel guilty because I know that there are hungry people all over who don't have food to eat and here I am, throwing away a bunch of leftovers.

I've done that too - order a couple of appetizers as my entree. It is terrible how much food gets wasted when you know how many people go hungry every day :(

I guess it's because it doesn't cost a restaurant that much more to give you a good sized portion vs Mt. Everest sized. A lot feel when they get more are getting a better deal for their money, when they don't need it. If this happens to me, I take it home.
