  1. I have a French and Belgian poster for this movie. Veronica Lake was one of the few actresses around that could make Alan Ladd seem like a giant. Veronica was less than 5' while Alan was 5'6".
  2. It's only May so I'm not getting too excited about the Dodgers' start. And you shouldn't get too discouraged red. Stranger things have happened. Let's see if the Dodgers' hot streak continues or if the Giants or someone else gets on a roll. The standings could look very different come August.
  3. With the Kings out I am pulling for the Bruins now. Good luck. 🤞
  4. Ignore him. He could be standing in the middle of a Biblical 40 days and 40 nights storm but would not believe it was raining unless Trump told him so.
  5. Damn. Steve Albini is dead from a heart attack at only age 61. Big Black. Shellac. Producer on albums by the Pixies, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Low, and Page & Plaht ("Walking Into Clarksdale"), among many others. Steve and Shellac were just getting ready to tour their first new album in ten years. Sad day. R.I.P. https://pitchfork.com/news/steve-albini-storied-producer-and-icon-of-the-rock-underground-dies-at-61/
  6. Sunday dinner: Country fried steak, mashed potatoes and country gravy, spinach, corn on the cob, coleslaw, green salad, biscuits, beer. Blueberry cobbler and coffee for dessert.
  7. I thought there was more than one guy reviewing at that site? I know gsparanzo seemed to do most of the Led Zeppelin reviews but I seem to recall other bylines. If the demise is true, it's a sad, sad day. Underground Uprising and Collectors Music Reviews were two of the first places I discovered upon my initial forays on the internet looking for bootleg information. Now both are gone. R.I.P.
  8. I am not surprised Mike Trout is hurt. He's been injured every season for the past four years. He is the Ken Griffey, Jr. of this generation. Great player but won't get a whiff of the World Series. And now his contract is an albatross just as Albert Pujols was to the Angels. https://theathletic.com/5465868/2024/05/02/mike-trout-angels-trade-value/
  9. Sweet Gloria Grahame double-feature last week. Saw the brand new 70mm print of "The Searchers" at the Egyptian last Sunday. One of my favourite John Ford/John Wayne westerns. Looks and sounds incredible. Always touching to see John Wayne honour his deceased pal Harry Carey in the last scene by cradling his arm just like Harry used to do. Ward Bond, Vera Miles, John Qualen, Natalie Wood, Hank Worden, and many John Ford regulars pop up in the cast. Ken Curtis, who plays 'Charlie McCorrie', would go on to play 'Festus' on the tv show "Gunsmoke". A silly double-bill this past Monday at the New Beverly thart I surprisingly enjoyed...especially the first movie, 1976's "Drive-In", set at a drive-in in a small Texas town. I could see Richard Linklater seeing this movie as a kid and using it as a kind of template for his "Dazed and Confused". The best thing about "Hot Stuff" was Suzanne Pleshette and Jerry Reed.
  10. Andrew Robinson ("Scorpio") and Eddie Muller introducing "Dirty Harry" this past Saturday morning at the Chinese Theatre during the TCM Classic Film Festival.
  11. Love both of these. Almost hard to believe they were directed by the same guy.
  12. Who is putting this speculation out there?
  13. Sounds like an exciting happy time. Hope the guy proves worthy of your daughter.
  14. Lamb korma and garlic naan. Masala chai.
