ledzepfvr
O...M.....G......this is so good on many levels for me. Deep Purple was one of my favorite bands of the 70's and saw them 2 times. Lazy is one of their great songs that is listened to over and over. Joe B is my favorite guitarist that is out there right now, and anyone who knows me knows how much I love Joe and his music. That intro by Arlan was awesome and Jon would be smiling down on this tribute. Jimmy has a great voice that delivers impact. Pagemeister....I just noticed you didn't give Anton Fig credit on drums. Anton, Michael and Brad are great and the whole song to me does justice to the orginal. I love, love, love this. magerogue
Deep Purple's one of my favorite bands, MKII is the best line up obviously, they made In Rock, one of my favorite records ever, Fireball, Machine Head and Who Do We Think We Are. Also, on the MKIII line up the tunes came together again, and I really dig Come Taste The Band, sounds like a really natural, funky record and easy to listen to. I wonder how many people followed Ian Paice and Jon after DP split in 76, I absolutely love Paice Ashton & Lord's record Malice In Wonderland. Truly recommend it. 2bitnogoodjive
Deep Purple: Made In Japan 40th Anniversary edition coming A 40th Anniversary edition of Deep Purple’s “Made In Japan” is in production and set to be released in March 2014. Originally issued in December 1972 (in the UK; April 1973 in the US), “Made In Japan” captured the band live over three nights in August 1972 at Festival Hall in Osaka and at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan."Deep Purple was at the height of its powers,” said keyboardist Jon Lord.“That double album was the epitome of what we stood for in those days. It wasn’t meant to be released outside of Japan. The Japanese said, 'Will you please make a live album?' We said, 'We don’t make live albums; we don’t believe in them.' We finally said okay, but said we wanted the rights to the tapes because we didn’t want the album to be released outside of Japan. That album only cost about $3,000 to make. It sounded pretty good, so we said to Warner Bros., 'Do you want this?' They said, 'No, live albums don’t happen.' They wound up putting it out anyway and it went platinum in about two weeks."“Made In Japan” reached No. 1 in several countries and peaked at No. 6 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The 40th Anniversary edition will see the original album coupled with new remixes of all 3 nights, a new documentary and a 60-page booklet with rare / unseen photos. More detail about the project will be announced soon.Deep Purple are among the nominees for the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and have been touring in support of their latest album, “NOW What!?” Edited December 25, 2013 by 2bitnogoodjive
The Pagemeister
Gillan were a hugely successful hard rock band in the early eighties fronted by legendary Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. Their career ran from 1979 to 1982 during which time they released 5 albums all of which charted Top 20 in the UK and had a string of successful singles. This concert was filmed as part of BBC's "Rock Goes To College" series at Oxford Polytechnic on the 2nd February 1981 following their "Glory Road" album (which went to No.3) and just before the release of "Future Shock" (which went to No.2). tomloge
I'm going to see Deep Purple live in late August in New Jersey. I haven't seen them live in about 40 years! The only time I did see them live was when Tommy Bolin was in the band and they released "Come Taste the Band". Great show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Nazareth opened for Purple, I think Nazareth had just released "Hair of the Dog". Great combination of bands.

grasbo
The second record I ever bought was Made in Japan when i was 12 in 1974.Ii bought it because this chick who was about 4 to 5 years older than me said it was a great album and that Slade Alive(my first lp)sucked.I was trying to impress her I think.Still have that lp scratches and all to this day,one of the best live albums ever.Studiowise Machine Head is the pick, though In Rock and Burn are just as good.Avoid House of Blue Light. I was surprised at how much film was shot of the Tokyo show on the 17th August. Magnificent.
