  1. Yeah, I didn't even know he had cancer all this time. That's why my first reaction was it must be a mistake. He always looked so good in the photos...healthy and vibrant. Shocked me to the core that he really was dead. Bowie's first truly great album...
  2. I've heard it but haven't purchased it yet...and I just found out about his death. Just finished listening to "Ziggy Stardust", which everyone loves, and have now put on one of my faves, the lesser-known "Low" album.
  3. I'm not going to lie...at first I thought this was a hoax. Someone was pulling a fast one. David Bowie dead? Just mere days after releasing yet another album that wasn't just some cash-grab or clinging to the vine of nostalgia (Rolling Stones cough-cough)? Naw, this couldn't be true. Sadly, it appears to be so...David Jones of Brixton has shuffled off this mortal coil. Unlike many others of his era, Bowie was never a has-been. R.I.P. Time takes a cigarette...
  4. Yeah, that had to hurt for you.
  5. ALL the home teams lost this weekend! That's a rarity.
  6. Not particularly. Oh, visually there were some moments. But I will wait until you see "Man in the Wilderness" before delineating my issues with "Revenant", for I cannot without divulging spoilers for "Man in the Wilderness".
  7. ^^^You know my view on "The Big Short". As for "Revenant", I suggest you seek out Richard Harris in "Man in the Wilderness" for a less-Hollywood cliché take on the same story of Hugh Glass' survival from a bear attack. Golden Globes are tonight and as usual, the categories make little sense. Why are "The Martian" and "The Big Short" in the Comedy-Musical section? The Foreign Film is most interesting to me. Having seen all the nominees, I am definitely cheering for the Turkish movie "Mustang" to win. A rapturous and deeply involving film from start-to-finish, and one of the few times we get to see a woman's undiluted vision put on screen, uncompromised. Now that the awards shows are coming, many of these foreign films may finally get a release in theatres besides Los Angeles and New York. Please seek "Mustang" out and watch it. I also liked Belgium's "The Brand New Testament", if not as much as "Mustang". Either one of these two I would be happy winning tonight...or at the Academy Awards. "The Fencer", "The Club", and "Son of Saul", while each had moments (including one of the most harrowing opening scenes in cinema in "Son of Saul"...more effective in its 5-10 minutes than all 3 hours of "Schindler's List"), as the whole they weren't as consistently good as the other two. As for the main Best Picture categories...I guess I would pick "Carol" in the Drama category, "The Big Short" in Comedy-Musical, and "Anomalisa" or "Shaun the Sheep" in Animation Film.
  8. Reports of the Packers' death have been greatly exaggerated. Apologies to Mark Twain.
  9. The plague of bad kicking continues...should be 12-0 instead of 11-0.
  10. Rooting for Taters for ebk's sake.
  11. Paul, Walter, Walter Jr., and Stocksontherocks undefeated so far. Reggie29 has yet to pick a winner...going 0-3 in the first three games. Home cooking doesn't always work.
  12. Well, I guess it wasn't a chip shot field goal after all. I thought for sure the Vikings were going to take the lead but I guess they're like the Bungles...always find a way to blow it. Still remember their choke job against the Falcons in 1998 playoffs when people were calling Vikings 'greatest offense ever'.
  13. Another 4th quarter lead choked by Seattle this season.
  14. You came the closest of anyone on the KC vs. Houston score.
  15. That's why I didn't understand people predicting Seattle to score 42 points or more. Look at the coldest playoff games in history and they were generally all low-scoring affairs.
  16. Belichick and Carroll are two of the brightest coaches in the NFL, but they both have made some recent decisions in games that leave you scratching your head and going "huh?" 4th and 13 and you don't kick the field goal, Pete? WTF.
  17. Marvin Lewis. Jim Caldwell. Jason Garett. Rex Ryan. Why these cornholios still have jobs has got to be frustrating for their teams fans. Imagine if Dallas loses out on Sean Payton because of Jones' love affair with Garett and Payton ends up in New York, their division rival.
  18. You will never go broke betting against the Bungholes. But even I, inveterate Cincinnati and Marvin Lewis-doubter, was beginning to concede that maybe the Bengals had finally learned how to win in the playoffs when they took the lead 16-15 and then forced Pittsburgh to turn the ball over on downs with less than a minute to play. Surely, there was so little time left that not even they could screw this up? But then the Bengals showed why they have earned the "Bungles"/"Bungholes" sobriquet. First came the fumble. Then the stupidity. Back-to-back personal fouls. Pittsburgh, never one to look a gift-horse in the mouth, didn't even bother to run any more time off the clock...they got their kicker immediately out there to kick the field goal. Yes, there was still time on the clock for Cincinnati to maybe pull out a miracle, but Pittsburgh liked those odds better than risking Ben Roethlisburger or some other player getting clocked by some headhunting Bunghole. By the end of the game, all you could do was laugh and shake your head...S.O.B. Same Old Bengals. Winter is going to be brutal in Cincinnati. What wasn't a laughing matter was Antonio Brown. There was one horrific replay angle where you could tell he was unconscious immediately...his eyes rolled back in his head. I doubt he will be playing next week. I see some people playing the Playoff contest have predicted Seattle scoring high numbers today. I wonder if they realize that the Vikings don't play in a dome anymore? The game is outdoors in freezing weather...the first home outdoor playoff game since 1976 for the Vikings. And no Marshawn Lynch for Seattle.
  19. Houston 20 Kansas City 17 Pittsburgh 30 Cincinnati 24 Seattle 20 Minnesota 17 Washington 27 Green Bay 20
  20. Welcome to the contest. Welcome to the forum.
