  1. Close! No...you fooled me...I thought you were going to start a "Band with the Shortest Reign as a Big Band" thread, and that obviously was Dire Straights, who became massive with Brothers in Arms. Then swept to obscurity and cut-out land as everyone got sick of the record, the endless videos, and finally, the band themselves. Within a year, their popularity plummeted. And millions of used copies of Brothers in Arms gather dust in record stores across the land.
  2. I bet I know what it is...and the answer is Dire Straits.
  3. Picked up the new soundboard of March 17, 1975 Seattle last Sunday. Listened to it first on the 4th of July. Giving it a second listen on way from work to the "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" screening across town. An "average" 75 show so far...great sound, tho.
  4. :hysterical: :hysterical: Hahaha, Gary Cherone, the LAMEST FRONTMAN EVER!!! If he's not, he's pretty damn close. I remember a friend and I watching some award show or something and VH Mk III was playing, and he did that same move...we both fell out of our chairs laughing. What a putz!
  5. I'm going for sure, as well as a friend of mine and maybe his kid.
  6. ATTENTION ALL "FAST TIMES" FANS IN THE LA AREA! Tonight(Friday July 8) at 7:30pm, director Amy Heckerling will be at the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre in Santa Monica for a screening of two of her films, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Clueless". There will be a Q & A between the films and who knows...maybe some "special guests"? Read about it here...Fast Times/Clueless at the Cinematheque
  7. Definitely NO WOLFGANG in this clip! One of the GREATEST concert intros EVER!
  8. AGREED! No Chickenfoot or Van Hagar clips in a Van Halen thread.
  9. Hi Barb :) Thanks for the info...section 16 was nearly opposite to where I was.

  10. Wait til you see them live! I don't know where you're from, but if they tour near you, do yourself a favour and go! They are one of the top 5 current bands live.
  11. I don't know if "Blue" is her best album, but it's pretty darn close, Missy. Of course I am a big Joni Mitchell fan...and not just because of the "Going to California" connection. My dad had all the early albums and I remember hearing them all the time in the late-60's thru early-70's. Besides, I am Californian, and I think there's just something in a Californian's DNA that makes you like certain acts: The Byrds, Beach Boys, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan for instance. Seen Joni many times in concert, including both nights in 1998 at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, where she was sandwiched between Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, who traded headlining slots every other night. And yes, she did her Bob Dylan-voice on one song...but it was more in good fun and jest, than in anger. Anyway, here's a few of my favourite Joni clips...mainly because it's just Joni with her guitar. "California" Live on BBC 1970 "Just Like This Train" Live Joni Mitchell & Johnny Cash "The Long Black Veil"
  12. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANIE! To the rootinest-tootinest Texas Tornado, have yourself a ROCKING BIRTHDAY!

    3 CHEERS! :drinks:

  13. YES!!! HE DID IT!!! Djokovic beats Nadal to win his first Wimbledon championship and take over the #1 slot! Now I just have to finish laundry and it's off to the record swap meet to score more bootlegs. Dazed cat posted some Robin Trower live clips from 1975, and it made me realize I don't have any Robin Trower boots.
  14. Watching Djokovic kick Nadal's ass in the Wimbledon's mens final right now. Djokovic up 2 sets to love. Had to get up 6am local time to catch the start of the match.
  15. ^^^ Yes to all of the above, Brad! Sadly, my date and I agreed "Terri" was just meh. Could've been better. But we did recognize the bookstore and a couple other locations. They filmed the movie all over the Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre area. Of recent movies I've seen, "Submarine" and "Beginners" were far better than "Terri". Oh well, at least it wasn't as godawful as "Larry Crowne".
  16. Glückliche geburtstag dude! Happy Birthday! Keep a ROCKING!

  17. Hey there ZepRex! No I haven't forgotten about you. My main computer is down and it is 100° F. out here in LA, so I'm spending as much time keeping cool and relaxing as I can this 4th of July holiday weekend. But you'll hear from me soon. Prost!

  18. Merci beaucoup for the compliment, Melanie. Hope you have a great 4th of July weekend. Are you beating the heat? The sun is blazing like the dickens here in LA. Pant pant pant...

  19. It is so damn hot. 100 freaking degrees! I'm melting...

      Hey there strider,

I'd welcome you to Florida anytime, but you would only gain an advantage of 7 degrees.... We are sitting @ about 93 degrees here! More iced tea please.....;) Missy

  20. Just got the new book of photographs by Linda McCartney published by Taschen. Linda McCartney "Life in Photographs" Many excellent candid photographs of Paul and the kids(talk about your IDYLLIC childhoods)...and many pop/rock stars of the day including some great ones of Eric Clapton. There is only one Led Zeppelin/Yardbirds-related photo in the entire book, and that is this one:
  21. Oh mannnnnn....the ANTICIPATION is building! Can't wait for the album to come out and the tour to come around Los Angeles. This sounds like it's going to be killer.
  22. Oh, it won't be JUST the other moms looking...expect lots of looks from the dads, too! BTW, although technically not a post here on the thread, I did change my avatar pic...that's me at age 2 or 3 with some cousin or other, who apparently followed me around all the time. I don't remember her at all, but my mom said we were inseparable and we would kiss all the time.
  23. Now, on Donnie Darko, the newer version works, as this was what the director INTENDED to show originally but because of budget and studio interference wasn't...actually I like both versions, but the director's cut makes some of the weirder story elements clearer...and the music cues are what he originally wanted. A HIGHLY UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED film...and thoroughly enjoyable. Loved all the "Sweded" clips...someone should do a "sweded" version of "The Song Remains the Same". It'd be hilarious. Michel Gondry has done some of my favourite films of the past decade, with "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" being near the top of the list. And his music video work is practically second-to-none. Too bad "Be Kind and Rewind" didn't do better at the B.O., but hopefully it will have a second-life on dvd and cable; much like Donnie Darko did. Don't know if I want to see his "Green Hornet", though...it looked TERRIBLE. Going to see the new John C. Reilly movie, "Terri" tonight...they shot a scene in the bookshop I work at in Pasadena, Book Alley. Hopefully it made the cut.
  24. The original is far better than the Redux version...and I could write a THESIS explaining why, but the Wimbledon semi's are on and Tsonga just won the third set to get back in the match, so I don't have the time nor the focus to elucidate. Maybe later...I'll pm you. Both Coppola and George Lucas need to be quarantined somewhere to prevent them from going back and RUINING their old movies! It's like a disease with those two.
  25. I see the board is finally back up. So I gather Raleigh is where you'll be Jahfin? I wonder what venue they'll play in LA? The Greek or the Wiltern? Possibly the Nokia.
