I had a feeling there was a poll done about the greatest live albums...and I finally found the thread.

An excellent list, zepscoda! Every one of those choices gets a regular play on my stereo. Surprised nobody has mentioned another perennial on the list of greatest live albums: Otis Redding "Live at the Whisky a Go Go". I know Major Major had his detractors but he's right about Judas Priest's "Unleashed in the East"...it's a fucking beast of a live album.

Like badgeholder, I have a feeling you were at a lot of the same concerts I was in the 70s. Did you go to Rory Gallagher/Kiss at Long Beach in February '74? Blood, Sweat & Tears/Bruce Springsteen? Black Sabbath/Gentle Giant at the Hollywood Bowl in '73? I could go on and on haha.

That's been my contention all along. I would give up "Coda" or Led Zeppelin II before ITTOD.

If you remember the name or location of the pub then with Google Earth you can track down the club they were playing. Most clubs have websites with their show schedules, so just check the calendar for Friday August 29 and you should be able to find the name of the band.

A band somewhat taken for granted back in its own time...the 1970s were so overstuffed with great bands, ELO got lost in the shuffle...but as time has passed, their music has held up for the most part and people have recognized what a unique sound they had. As a fan of The Move, I've always had a soft spot for The Electric Light Orchestra. A tad too trebly in the production and slavishly aping the Beatles at times, but certain albums such as "El Dorado" , "Face the Music", and "Out of the Blue" are stellar pieces of orchestral pop. Their peak years were from roughly 1974-1978...all the albums released during this period are choice and this was their live peak, too. Once the string section left/was fired and Jeff Lyne went "disco", the jig was up and ELO slumped into the Eighties. I think you and I were at the same show, Ledzepfvr. Was it at the Long Beach Arena? Do you remember Ronnie James Dio's band Elf opening? It was my first time seeing ELO and Ronnie James Dio...quite a night, and Deep Purple was relatively anti-climactic. It wasn't 1975 though...it was November 1974, around Thanksgiving. I remember because shortly after was USC's epic comeback victory over Notre Dame, when Anthony Davis ran back the second-half kickoff for a TD and opened the floodgates.

I cannot give you exact dates at the moment but I have heard several boots where Robert does the opening yowl on "How Many More Times" just as he does on the record.

Saw him Wednesday night with Buddy Guy at the Hollywood Bowl. Good show...better than I expected. Buddy was great, as always, but I hadn't seen Peter Frampton in concert since 1976 or '77. I had no idea if he still had the chops. Pretty decent setlist...kind of like "Frampton Comes Alive" part deux. Two interesting surprises...an instrumental cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" (Soundgarden had just played the Bowl on Monday night...maybe Peter was at that show?) and Buddy Guy coming out during Frampton's encore for a jam on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". You'll have a good time Saturday, ledzepfvr! Bon voyage, Mr. and Mrs. CP! Have fun and be safe...we want you all back in one piece, haha. Peace, brother.

I missed the game madstork...did he really look that good? Or was it against Seattle's third-string scrubs? Still...the Raiders put up 41 points on the Seahawks while the Bills put up a big fat ZERO. Given what I've seen from Buffalo the last two weeks it appears the Bills still aren't ready for Prime Time. Let alone challenging New England for the Division. Miami seems the only other semi-competent team in the East to give the Patriots a tussle, while the two New York teams (Bills and Jets) will flounder around as usual. Not that I'm predicting the Raiders to do any better...I won't be picking them in Rick's contest, that's for sure. Denver and San Diego will be #1 and #2 in the West while KC falls back to earth after that easy schedule they had last year. The Raiders will be duking it out with the Chiefs for last place. Rick, I know about your contest...I'll post my predictions next week. Don't forget we still have our usual weekly NFL pool, dedicated this season to the dearly departed Brett...aka pottedplant.

Erm, no...I have never tried Elk. However, I have had deer/venison, buffalo, wild boar, pheasant, rabbit, ostrich, possum, squirrel, snake, alligator, frogs, snails, and more varieties of fish and seafood than I can count/remember. Lunch today was steamed mussels with Thai basil and Vietnamese spring rolls with shrimp. Thai iced tea and three glasses of water.

We usually get around 10 people or so to play every year. Sadly, there'll be one less this year. I know Paul, Walter, Rick, jb, Bong-Man, redrum, jabe, zepscoda, KB?, and I will be back as usual this year. Anybody know Kansas City fan DAS whereabouts? Wonder if Black Dawg will ever return? I know there must be dozens if not hundreds of NFL fans lurking on this Forum. Come on, people, join the NFL pool! It's free...it's easy...it's harmless fun. Test your knowledge and luck versus the so-called media experts. My record has been better than the LA Times NFL prognosticator three years running. You don't have to try to pick the spread..just pick the team each week that you think will win. Picks must be in before each week's slate of games begins. So, since the first week of the season begins next Thursday, try to get them in before kickoff. Or, at least Thursday's games in...then post the rest of your week's picks by Saturday night. Let's try to get this NFL pool up to 20 participants at least. The more the merrier.
