  1. Now it's official...this thread has 'jumped the shark'. A valiant and admirable effort on your part, apantherfrommd and others, but the king has spoken.
  2. So the secret to me having a good week apparently is not to watch any football. I missed all the games last weekend, with the exception of about 15 minutes of the Bears-Cowboys game Monday night...and wouldn't you know it, my pick lost.
  3. December 10, 2007. O2 Arena. Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert. Six years ago tonight.
  4. Happy Birthday Kiwi Zep Fan 67! Hope you're having fun all the way across the globe and cranking some primo vintage garage-psych rock! All the best to you on your Celebration Day! Cheers!
  5. It's bad enough I had to miss the Paisley Underground reunion concert last night at the Fonda ( The Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade, Three O'Clock, and the Bangles) because of work. Now I find out I'll miss Sunday's 100 Flowers reunion as well...100 Flowers being the band that evolved from the Urinals in the early days of the L.A. punk scene. Responsibility is a bitch sometimes. There was a time when I would have blew off work to go to these shows and taken my chances. But irresponsibility in your 50s is as attractive as spandex.
  6. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
  7. Hmmmm, not available until 2014...just like the new box sets, it will miss the Christmas buying season. It looks like an e-book...for one thing, that is not the real Led Zeppelin font, but a variation. It will only be available in paperback, no hardcover edition is listed. It reminds me of all those "Philosophy of..." books. You know: Philosophy of Star Trek, Philosophy of the Godfather, Philosophy of Mad Men, Philosophy of the Simpsons, etc., etc.
  8. Nothing to get concerned or excited about. These things happen in the course of a long season.
  9. That's hilarious. No wonder you love Singapore so much. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Where were you when England was trying to hold on to the Colonies? You would have been a great help to the Red Coats. Of course the ruling establishment was going to label Mandela a terrorist...they were losing the world's sympathy. Well, except for the U.S. and the corporate lapdogs. How many of those 156 charges of terrorism and public violence were trumped up by the authorities? Given that South Africa is its own country of one, one cannot name three countries within the Republic of South Africa. But I can name three provinces of South Africa: Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape...and I'll throw in Free State as a bonus province.
  10. I'll make you a bet, Rick. I'll bet you New England finishes with a better record than Buffalo next season.
  11. A message... http://www.nelsonmandela.org/ A treasure trove of information on the man... http://archive.nelsonmandela.org/home
  12. ^^^ Clippers vs. Grizz is what you should be watching.
  13. You need an intervention, Paul. Hahaha. At least watch the Clippers-Grizz game instead.
  14. Hahaha, I can see it now...Walter as Lady Gaga's 'underwear wrangler'.
  15. First, I want to thank you ebk for that link...I'd never heard of that site before; love the title! Second, you can find my thoughts on the film over in the Movie thread, as I just posted a little blurb.
  16. Maybe he got a gig with the Fame Monster herself?
  17. Here's your answer ebk... "Out of the Furnace" is a bit of a mix of "Deliverance", "Winter's Bone" and bare-knuckle fighting. It's good, not great...but the cast is uniformly excellent: Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Willem Dafoe, Woody Harrelson, Sam Shepard, Forest Whitaker. Bale hardly seems Welsh anymore, he's so adept at American accents that it is always shocking to me to hear him speak with his normal Welsh voice. Just as writer-director Scott Cooper wrote the movie "Crazy Heart" expressly for Jeff Bridges, Cooper wrote "Out of the Furnace" purposely for Christian Bale and would not make it until Bale could do it. Cooper also wanted to use Pearl Jam's song "Release" and after showing the movie to Eddie Veddar, Eddie was so impressed he said he would record a new version of the song for the film. You hear the original "Release" during the movie and the new version over the closing credits. The film is set and was shot in and around Braddock and North Braddock, PA...with other locations shot in West Virginia and Beaver County, PA. The film played during the AFI Fest a few weeks ago, but there was only one screening scheduled and my schedule was in conflict. Fortunately, I got to see it at a preview last week with Scott Cooper along for a Q & A. "Out of the Furnace" opens tomorrow in limited release and then should start spreading around the country. The problem is that it will probably be overshadowed by that other Christian Bale film coming out in December: "American Hustle". Studios usually don't like to schedule two films with the same actor so close together. But if you get a chance to see "Out of the Furnace", I definitely recommend going before it gets swallowed up by all the big-studio Oscar-bait coming out this month.
  18. Some people deserve special mention. There is a world of difference between Nelson Mandela and someone like Paul Walker.
  19. My Week 14 picks: JACKSONVILLE...who imagined this scenario before the season began? Worst Thursday game ever? CINCINNATI...okay, after doubting them all year, I finally believe in Cincy. GREEN BAY...Aaron Rogers or not, never trust SADlanta and Matty Ice. NEW ENGLAND...New England still is a force to be reckoned with, like it or not. NY JETS...if it was in Oakland or the afternoon game, I would pick the Raiders...but 10am on the East Coast? Reluctantly, J-E-T-S. DETROIT...here is where we find out if Nick Foles is for real...I expect Bush and Megatron to slice the Eagles D up. PITTSBURGH...two demoralized teams going thru the motions at this point. TAMPA BAY...another wasted season by Buffalo..."wait til next year" should be the team's mantra. KANSAS CITY...after struggling against Manning and Rivers, Chiefs right the ship against the abysmal RGIII and Shanahan's shitty Redskins. BALTIMORE...who knows and who cares...flip a coin...tails says Baltimore. DENVER...Denver NEEDS the #1 seed to avoid New England, so they can't afford any more slip ups. ARIZONA...an intriguing battle between two better-than-expected teams...home field cooking helps Arizona in this case. SAN DIEGO...losing to Cincy at home is one thing...if Chargers lose to the Giants at home, there should be a complete purge during the offseason. SAN FRANCISCO...Seattle has to lose eventually, and now that they have a three game lead and clinched the playoffs, their drive may not be as focused as the 49ers, who are angry and playing much better than they were in September-October. One last hurrah at Candlestick! NEW ORLEANS...it's tempting to pick Carolina, it really is...but Drew Brees rarely has two subpar games in a row and I expect the Saints to get right back in the Superdome. DALLAS...fuck da Bears...they're even more maddening and untrustworthy than the Cowboys...and Cutler is even more of a risk in December than Romo.
  20. Fret not, pp...it's only a little over a year away. February 2015 in Glendale, Arizona (the Cardinals home stadium).
  21. Lemme guess...1-0?
  22. See...they do love you. Most parents have to wait until later before their kids show appreciation for all the parents did for them, haha. Yours are ahead of the curve.
  23. ^^^ Eat some turkey. If you want to make Christopher Plummer mad, ask him about "The Sound of Music". Watching "Pardon the Interruption" right now...PTI to its aficionados.
  24. You're too modest. It's all good...she went last night and it was a different Nutcracker production altogether. The one she went to was a Newport production held inside the Rosecliff Mansion.
