  1. Fans were lined up outside Boston Garden overnight for tickets to the 75 show. They were allowed inside because it was freezing out, and they trashed the place. They were banned in Boston as a result ......Pisses me off still.... because it pretty much ruined my chances of ever seeing them.
  2. Led Zeppelin's last concert performed in Boston ..... Page and Plant closed out the old Garden and I believe they were the 1st band to play the FleetCenter (now called the TD Garden) nice pictures.
  3. other - IN THE LIGHT I'll never understand why Led Zeppelin never played this live. I remember JPJ saying how much Robert wanted to play In the Light on stage, but he (Jones) didn't want to have to deal with Synthesizers live ! for Bass masterpieces I'd probably vote for Ramble On.
  4. welll that was the whole point.... and then i messed it up..pretty much every topic has been started 19 times over, but thanks for having a sense of humor about my tripe attempt anyway. Later
  5. Please select your favorite song that's 3rd in the running order ok..... i'll go 1st ... in my time of dying.... Boy That stinks...i set up a whole poll .............. and it's not here.. man do ii feel stoopid.
  6. Amazing drummer. I saw him playing Drums with Robert Plant on The Principle of Moments Tour and with Genesis in 1984. Live Aid ws a drag but his heart was in the right place. The Genesis "When in Rome" concert was in front of 1/2 a million people and simply the most incredible light and stage show ever. Some of the earlier Genesis and Brand X work is some of the best progressive / fusion drumming ever played. Also peter gabriel --- melting face robert fripps exposure - his combining of live drums and drum machines like in MAMA was breakthrough stuff too. I miss the guy's music and wish him well.
  7. for me it's a toss up between Sick Again and WTLB... 2 of the greatest recorded John Bonham performances. I voted for Sick Again..
  8. Bassist for U2...... also L Ron Hubbard and William H Macy I'm in very good company.
  9. my youngest sister was born may 31st (same day as john bonham) my older brother was born june 18th (same day as paul mccartney) my mother was born the same day and year as mary tyler moore (dec 29 1936) my uncle was born same day and year as john lennon (october 9 1940) and .............. i was born the same day as neil sedaka and adam clayton (march 13th) small world huh?
  10. ?uestlove - drummer for the roots - also house band for jimmy fallon jpj has played with him.
  11. ginger baker certainly doesn't underrate himself...
  12. i'm with this guy..... buddy rich, john bonham, ginger baker, etc... on their best day couldn't have played better on "a day in the life", "I am the walrus" or "hey jude" than ringo did. it isn't all about technical ability. if it was, this list would have included steve smith, vinny colaiuta, simon phillips and gavin harrison. it's about taste and playing what's right for the song... that's what john bonham and ringo both had. john bonham had a hell of a lot more chops than ringo, but ringo was/is an extremly tasteful drummer. the perfect drummer for the beatles. another example is nick mason.. his playing is very simple, but he's perfect for pink floyd. some hotshot playing all over the place would have killed the feel that floyd had.
  13. thanks .... never saw the un-cut version of Robert's speach. Plant's part was heavily editted on tbe tv broadcast.. "NEW YORK TIMES TODAY"? seems like the 1st jab at JPJ.... WELL 2ND AFTER THE HERMAM'S HERMITS JAB... Anyone know what Jones said to the paper that day???? old news now but I always wondered. never saw RP say "before we exchange phone numbers" either. sorry, but he acted like a jerk that night. thanks
  14. I've been selecting and playing just the 8 tracks from the 1974 sessions quite a bit recently and that would have been one heavy album ! Custard Pie In My Time Of Dying Trampled Underfoot Kashmir InThe Light 10 years Gone The Wanton Song Sick Again or whatever running order works for you..... not as good of course as the full 15 tracks, but very interesting and did I mention HEAVY.. This way i hear alot more comparisons to Presence as a follow-up. .... no keyboads or strings, but very powerful rockin' tracks. anyhow just wanted to throw that out there. enjoy your day.
  15. Sorry i wish I saw this earlier. I wasn't trying to give you a lecture or a Led Zeppelin history lesson. "Why would anyone for that matter?" was kind of rude of me though and sorry for that. I didn't state anything a Zeppelin fan doesn't know..... But you did say "compared to No Quarter, the song stinks". That got to me a little and I didn't see the connection between the 2 tracks. Carouselambra always reminded me more of Achilles Last Stand because of the tempo and length.
  16. De Niro and Pacino are my 2 favorites. also in no order Chaplin Gene Hackman Carroll O'Conner Christopher Walken Jodie Foster Meryl Streep Johnny Depp Clint Eastwood James Gandolfini John Cazzale was only in 5 movies, but 5 of the all time best The Godfather The Godfather Part 2 The Conversation Dog Day Afternoon The Deer Hunter
  17. America - Keene State College 1978. Bad Company - Providence Civic Ctr 1979 - Desolation Angels Tour. Black Sabbath - Blue Oyster Cult - Hartford Civic Center 1980 - Black and Blue Tour.
  18. You named the 2 I would have suggested. Maybe Ian Paice or Carmine Appice as well from a technical standpoint and for having a similiar approach. But of course nobody could have replaced John Bonham. Keith Moon at one time would have been interesting though... Who's Next time frame. But his chops were way down the last couple years of his life. When The Who went on extended breaks, Moon wasn't practiicing at all. Some drummers can get away with that. But throw in his hard drinking and wild lifestyle.... his drum skills were way down.
  19. I wouldn't compare it to No Quarter.... why would anyone for that mater. I wouldn't compare it to any other Zeppelin song except maybe Achilles Last Stand. ITTOD was an odd album. Some people dislike and to some, it's their favorite. Jimmy and John Bonham weren't in great shape at all. Robert was clean and sober, but still reeliing from the biggest loss of his life. John Paul Jones was really the only one who had it all together and he did the best he could. That being said... Carouselambra is my favorite song on ITTOD by far, because it was so different.
  20. page plant jones and jason bonham already jammed with steven tyler and joe perry so page had plenty of time to wail.
  21. He played bass at Kapuchea. might have been McCartneys Beatle Bass or JPJ's sorry didn't see knebby already replied
  22. not to me. obviously the reason robert wanted to leave was much more tragic and understandable than jpj's reason. but jones's musical contributions were as important as robert's. he was just more laid back about it. i will say i don't think they would have continued without robert in 77...... jpj in 1974? they might have.
  23. yep that's from the night Led Zeppelin and Neil Young were inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame. JPJ is there as well as the late great Michael Lee on drums.
