  1. Plant's voice was changed forever after he had the "secret" surgery on his vocal chords, which occured after the 73' American tour and before they started recording Physical Graffiti.
  2. Do any of you have the soundboard of July 6th? Plant's voice is shot! That is why I do not believe the soundcheck we speak of is from earlier in the day. I agree with Geezer on the fact it probably isn't from 75', only because Plant's voice took on a whole new persona, if you will, by that point. It's definitely from 73', but either before or after their stint in Chicago.
  3. Yes.yes, yes...I know the story of seeing Bobby Bland. I know it was Led Zeppelin's first show on the second leg of the tour. Fact is Steve, Plant's voice was shot during those concerts -I do have the shows. I'll bet the house that the souncheck we speak of is not from their stint in Chicago.
  4. Steve, there is no way that soundcheck is from Chicago 73'! If you have the bootlegs from Chicago in 1973, you'll know Plant's voice was shot because of him having the flu. That souncheck might be from the 75' tour or sometime before or after their set of concerts at the Chicago Stadium in 73'. Then again, how Plant sounds during Strawberry Jam, it's probably during their 73' tour, but I know it isn't while they were in Chicago. It's been suggested it could be from Minneapolis on July 9th.
  5. I have a photo of John Bonham wearing a Chicago Blackhawk sweater while backstage at The Chicago Stadium, before Led Zeppelin performed in 75'. I don't remember where I found this photo. Can anyone help where I might find this online? Thanks...
  6. Have you seen any live footage of David Grohl playing with Queens Of The Stone Age? Look for footage on youtube of them playing at The Troubador. What about his drumming with Them Crooked Vultures? Too generic? I disagree.
  7. Do you not like the drumming of David Grohl? If so, why?
  8. Much better? I don't know... Bruford is definitely one of my favorite drummers. A musician could be the best on the planet from a technical standpoint, but create crap. Keith Moon wasn't technically great, but what he put on those Who records was (great). I also love the drumming of: Ian Paice David Grohl Jimmy Chamberlain Matt Cameron Carl Palmer Carmine Appice Billy Cobham Ginger Baker Buddy Rich Gene Krupa Elvin Jones Stuart Copeland Buddy Miles Bernard Purdie Ed Shaughnessey
  9. Of course! Bruford is one hell of a player. Heart Of The Sunrise is spectacular.
  10. Rush, for their musicianship alone, are one of the best bands ever. But... The material they put out throughout the 80's and into the 90's,IMO, is less than desireable. I see many talk about Neil Peart being the best rock drummer ever. I believe the reasoning for that is Bonham has been dead since 80' and Rush is still an active band. To this day, I have yet to hear another rock drummer do what Bonham did. I believe John Bonham was faster than Peart. People will debate this one, but just listen to some of the early versions of Pat's Delight, the 73' European tour, the 75' North American tour and 77'. John was incredibly fast. However, speed isn't everything. Bonham's crossovers were on par with Buddy Rich. The bass drum playing? No one could touch Bonham in that regard. Look at the size of Bonham's kit. It's a quarter the size of Peart's, yet Bonham sounded much bigger. He made a small kit sound like he had one the size of Peart's. 1. John Bonham 2. Mitch Mitchell 3. Neil Peart
  11. Finding out Marian Hossa will play for the Blackhawks tonight!
  12. JYNX CRONIC THE BUCKETHEADS THE LEVEE BAD APPLES 100 PROOF GREEN ONIONS MUDVILLE
  13. Aretha Franklin Dusty Springfield Janis Joplin Ann Wilson Alison Mosshart - The Dead Weather Billie Holiday Patsy Cline Annie Lennox Pattie Smith Chrissie Hynde Donna Summer Deborah Harry Joan Baez Shania Twain Pat Benatar Alison Krauss I understand topic is asking "Best Female Rock Vocalist" but there are other very good women voices in the whole music world.
  14. Essen, Germany 3/22/73 That European tour of 73' is outstanding!
  15. FM radio is a joke. Program directors at these FM stations have horrible musical tastes. And the majority of listeners allow themselves to be brainwashed because they don't know better. I guess the masses are happy hearing Free Bird 50 times in one week. It's pathetic to hear FM stations come up with program slogans like "Deep Cuts" If a song is good, shouldn't it be played? I mean, why should In My Time Of Dying by Led Zeppelin, or Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix/Band Of Gypsys be presented by these FM stations acrooss America as "Deep" tracks? Utter nonsense! Chicago had a great Saturday night show that was broadcast on 105.9 WCKG "Free FM". The name of the show was Bob & Ron's Record Club. The show came on at 12am and ended at 5am. They played nothing but vinyl, and never played the same song twice unless it was on a themed based show. They granted all requests - when was the last time any of you requested a particular song and had it played? I've been contemplating buying radio time, but my schedule doesn't allow me to make that venture in the immediate future.
  16. If the O2 show never took place, I wonder if many of you would still pick "Good Times Bad Times" as your favorite album opener... I doubt that very much.
  17. Brutal, just brutal! This will be the final thing I post on this lame band - I want to thank the man upstairs, God himself, for giving me the musical tastes I have. For anyone that likes this crap band, better you than I!
  18. Not miserable, HORRIBLE - & they are! "Quite overlooked gems?" Maybe gems found in a poop pile. I was 10 (in 1982) when I bought my first Led Zeppelin album, so I seen the nonsense of KISS first hand. For me, at age 10, it was always about how great the music sounded, and not the gimmicks. I hated KISS when I was 10, and the hatred I have for that band will always be there, because they do suck ass. Many of my friends in grammar school were preaching about KISS, Van Halen, ACDC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc., etc., but I was always in their ears talking Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Black Sabbath.
