  1. I loved Rey's books back in the good old pre-internet days, when information like this was hard to get and you had to be careful about your purchases. But $54 is a bit too much now, sad to say.
  2. US aid was critical to the British war effort, and the need to keep it flowing is why the British conducted spying operations in the US to manipulate public opinion towards active support of Britain. Without American aid Britain would have been forced to make peace with Germany.
  3. I don't think the Germans ever had any serious plans to invade Britain. Hitler was an admirer of the British Empire and (like Putin today, ironically) never really grasped how badly the Anglo-Americans wanted him gone. The record of British subversion and intelligence operations in the US to sway opinion towards interventionism and to join the war speaks a lot about their desperate state. There is no way they could have defeated Germany alone. Lend Lease kept the Soviets in the war in 1941, and continued aid made them more mobile and effective in 1942, which was fully demonstrated at Stalingrad. Without US support (which was given on far more lenient terms than Britain received), the Soviets would have lost the war.
  4. Fighting and losing. America bailed out the entire world in WW2. I am no Team America meat-head, but it is beyond obvious that without massive American aid (in both world wars) Britain would have had to make terms with Germany and the Soviet Union would have fallen. The point about the Solomon Islands is that Australia thought something going on far from its borders was a national security matter, yet when Russia does something literally on their border it's the end of the fucking world. Beyond moronic double-standard.
  5. Who cares if they were invaded or not? How is it any of our concern? America has enough problems without having to police some ex-Soviet border dispute. The US didn't expect - or more importantly need - the rest of the world to make sacrifices for it against Japan. Are you old enough to have learned that he who pays the piper, calls the tune? Did you care when Iraq or Syria or Libya were invaded/destabilized by the US or their EU satellites? How about when Australia bullied the Solomon Islands over their relations with China? Why have you people lost your shit over Russia?
  6. It's irrelevant how they see it, it IS a proxy war, and they ARE being used as cannon fodder for US/UK interests. This would be over tomorrow if the US halted aid. The Ukraine would have to commit to a neutral foreign policy and they would go back to their lives. There is absolutely no American interest that depends on having a military alliance with the Ukraine.
  7. The Bills did not get screwed in any way here, and KC is not unfairly benefiting. They *opted* to not return to the field Monday night, and they were lucky Cincinnati accommodated them. They made a choice and should live with the consequences. The Bengals would have been well within their rights to demand a forfeit from Buffalo. (Although they would have been crucified by the hypocritical and manipulative media over it.) The Bengals are the only party who's really getting shafted there (esp. with the League changing clearly defined rules on the fly), as they had a realistic chance to be the #2 seed and sit people today.
  8. There are some cool new pics of this show on the main site.
  9. Except, Russia has never said it wants the Ukraine as part of some "empire", only that it not join an anti-Russian military alliance (NATO). Whether or not you think this is a reasonable position or paranoia or whatever, I have yet to see a coherent explanation as to why the US needs a military alliance with the Ukraine. I can't see the Russians acting much differently here from how the US would respond if China tried to form a military alliance with Mexico (or how they did respond during the Cuban Missile Crisis). Or, how Australia would act if the Solomon Islands tried to get cozy with China... BTW, the Russian speakers in the Donbas don't want to be ruled by Kiev, do their opinions count for anything here? And re. Russian conduct, it's pretty clear they've been very restrained. They've only recently began strikes against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, something the US does on day one of the many unnecessary wars of choice they've launched in the last 20 years. Where was the outrage then?
  10. The 28th sizzles outside of D&C and STH. The 29th is an excellent show from start to finish, probably the best overall of the three. I think the various negative comments the band has made about these shows over the years are unjustified and tend to bias people against them. They have some of Page's greatest playing ever (D&C and STH from the 27th, NQ from the 28th), obviously they had something good going on those last nights.
  11. It is surprising how willing ordinary Ukrainians are to be cannon fodder for a US proxy war. I get being anti-Russian but how can they possibly want to sacrifice for US geopolitical interests? But then again Zelensky is essentially a dictator at this stage so it's not like there's any feasible means of opposition in the Ukraine. Of course it's also surprising how eager Poles and the Baltics are for this war go global (they'll be destroyed just like in WW2, Poland in particular should understand the worthlessness of Anglo-American security guarantees), it's a good indication of how effective propaganda can be.
  12. Completely agree with this. It's not about pro-Russia or pro-Ukraine, it's about opposing the globalist oligarchy who is using this war (like they did Covid) as a stepping stone. (To what, we don't know, but it can't be good.) Even in less lurid terms, there is no American national interest at stake here, and we should stay out.

  14. Haha, I actually love Coronarias Redig.
  15. 70's, hands-down. Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures were excellent albums, but IMO Hemispheres was their last great, hard rock meets prog rock album. After that they became too polished, which after Moving Pictures meant too commercial.
  16. I definitely trust science. Scientists, on the other hand, are an entirely different matter. They're some of the most ideological and superstitious people out there.
  17. I think it's always been the case in all sports that a mediocre team can get hot at the right time and win a single game or series against an otherwise superior opponent (think of those Super Bowls the NY Giants won). Granted, baseball is more susceptible to hot/cold streaks than other sports, but I'm not convinced this is a real issue here, it is what it is. Like last year, it's not like the Astros were so demonstrably superior to the Braves (who played great ball after the All-Star break, their overall record wasn't indicative of their quality), such that the WS outcome was a quirk. And like I said, the Dodgers have a history of choking, it's probably not surprising the Braves beat them in the NLCS last year. In general the regular seasons of all pro sports leagues are way too long (although it's much worse in football and basketball than baseball), they need to reduce them (although of course they never will for monetary reasons).
  18. The Mets and Dodgers flat-out choked, as they have a history of doing, not a lot of sympathy for them. (Looks like the Yankees may well do the same against the Indians.) There are probably good reasons for extending the division series to 7 games (with a single, best-of-5 wild-card series in each league), but right now all that would mean is the Dodgers and Braves (both 100 game winners) would be in a deep 3-1 hole. The fact is, the playoffs are all that ultimately matter and teams who had great regular seasons need to keep it going if they want to advance. I don't have a problem with 90-win, small-market teams moving on here.
  19. That's right. But there's more too than that:
