    Happy Halloween!

LOL, thanks! Seriously, this just happened - A woman who is an Army Captain and Nurse at the Base Hospital just came into our office requesting some information. After talking to her, she finally asked me, "Is that a burn?" I was actually surprised and asked what she meant. She pointed to my head and asked again, "did you get burned somehow?" I started laughing and told her it wasn't real, that it was just for Halloween. She did a double-take and started laughing, saying how real it looked. Fooled a nurse = WIN! LOL
  2. So it's my 10th Halloween at my current job, and of course I never fail to come to work appropriately. When you shave your head, head wounds are mandatory, and I do some variation every year. This year, I still had some leftover decals from last year to get it started. But then I went to the Halloween store last night and got this stuff called Creepy Skin, and it's perfect! It's kind of an oily, waxy mixture with some fiber (cotton?) mixed in to give it some more consistency. You just mold it however you want to create ridges, bumps, flaps, etc. as needed. It adds just the right touch of depth and realism necessary to any good head wound! Finish it out with fake blood accents, and you're ready for the Emergency Room! And yes, the one over my left ear has a somewhat vaginal appearance, but I'm still satisfied with the overall results. So, post some pics of your Halloween transformation!
  3. With a couple of German Fraus at our Oktoberfest Celebration.
  4. I don't know if it's still in print, but when I lived in Maryland back in the 60s, there was a magazine called Fishing In Maryland which contained articles, maps to fishing areas throughout the state, and in the back, a listing of the biggest specimen of each species, divided into Freshwater and Saltwater categories. In 1968, at the age of 8, I was listed under Black Crappie for the 4th largest caught that year. It was 17.5 inches long, and weighed - I believe - 3 lbs. 15 oz. I still have a Fishing In Maryland patch I received, along with a certificate. Funny thing is, I thought the line on my cane pole had become snagged - again - so I didn't say anything because I didn't want my Dad to get mad at me. So I kept easing on the line until suddenly he broke the surface and THEN I hollered out! LOL Somewhere in our family's stuff is a color Kodak slide of me holding the fish up. Never got it mounted, but it stayed wrapped in foil in our freezer for probably 2 or 3 years.
  5. Thanks for the add, muh man.

  6. It's based on a true story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BART_Police_shooting_of_Oscar_Grant
  7. Good movie, very sad story. We took our kids so they could get a feel for how easily any situation can quickly spiral out of control, and any day can become your last. So they could see that there are no warnings.
  8. So, I happened to catch This Is The End in stock at my local Redbox, so I grabbed it, caught a sweet buzz and prepared for shenanigans to ensue. Unfortunately, said shenanigans failed to materialize. With so many of Hollywood's FUNNY actors and comedians in a single movie, it's surprising how NOT funny this movie was. Oh, I imagine there could be lots of inside jokes that make Seth Rogen et al., delirious with laughter with every viewing. But if there are, they're so obscure as to be discernible ONLY to those intimately familiar with their world. Overall, it seems an excessively self-indulgent exercise in displaying who's part of the COOL KIDS in Hollywood. I would guess they imagine themselves as having brutally torching each other with their collective acidic wit in portraying themselves in the movie, but very little gets any traction. Michael Cera is mildly humorous - for about a second or so - as an out-of-control cokehead. Also the observation that Seth Rogen plays the same guy - basically himself - in every movie. In the end, it's Danny McBride playing his usual over-the-top kind of character that keeps any of the movie even slightly interesting. It's kind of funny - and kind of easy - to imagine him as actually being the crazy-cool (in a trailer-trashy kind of way) burnout that he so often plays, but it's hardly enough to carry the entire movie. Seriously, when you have a stiff buzz and STILL have a hard time finding something to get a chuckle out of, well, that's a problem for a comedy.

Funniest thing I've seen lately. Serious LOLs. If life’s actual supervillains were enshrined in comic books [6 pictures] As a Child… As an Adolescent… As a Teenager… As a Young Adult… In Middle Age… In Old Age…
  10. I would like to take this time to offer you my Thanks, Good Sir, for your recommendation of Gravity, specifically in 3D. Unfortunately, the next showing in IMAX 3D wasn't for almost 2 hours, so I had to settle for Real 3D. I regret that, because I'm certain IMAX Sound would have been simply insane. I want to begin by explaining that I saw the trailer for Gravity at a movie earlier in the summer. It looked... interesting. But not absolutely compelling like other movies have seemed. However, your recommendation, specifically in recognition of your usual disdain for 3D, as well as the revelation that the trailer doesn't ruin the movie changed my mind. And you were so right. A while back when I saw Avatar, I was shredded (not by you) for being such an ardent fan of the movie, especially the use of CG and 3D. But my reply was, I saw it as opening doors for less gaudy use of 3D (and CG), allowing it to more subtly influence the movie, to help tell the story. Gravity has done that. I think I can safely comment without a spoiler warning that the teardrop alone eliminates any doubt of how well the 3D enhanced the story. That was exquisite. For anyone that hasn't seen it - paradigm shift. Movies just took another quantum leap in absolute, fucking hardcore awesomeness. Quite simply, MIND = BLOWN. Thank you, Strider. You are, without question, Da Man.

Classic. Never fails to crack me up.
  15. I'm not surprised and actually suspected as much. Most of the narrative sounds like it would have come straight from the book. It would be foolish to tamper with genius like that. The incredibly lengthy Quotes section on IMDB is a great reflection of how awesome the dialog of the movie is. I watched it again on Netflix last night - sans buzz - and still loved it. After some reading up on the film, I was able to look for things, such as the scene where Hunter S. Thompson has a cameo. Vegas is an awesome backdrop for epic adventures, to say the least.
  16. No, unfortunately. I enjoy reading, but it's a luxury (of time) that I rarely have these days. I will definitely keep an eye out for it to have in the event I find myself able to do some reading.
  17. In my never-ending effort to catch up on various classics / must-sees that I have missed over the years, last night I got to watch one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I copped a sweet buzz before settling in for the ride, which is good advice for most movies anyway, but almost mandatory for this one. Seriously, Johnny Depp's narrative literally had me in tears as he and Benicio Del Toro stumble through the mother of all drug binges. Not surprisingly, I even noticed a number of apparent seed-ideas for The Hangover. I know most folks have seen this long ago and many times. But if, like me, this one somehow slipped by you, you owe yourself a good buzz and a couple hours to sit back and take in the long, strange trip.
  18. OK, been off the radar for a few weeks following a minor surgical procedure, and (surprisingly) spent way less time (read: practically none) online than I would have imagined. I did manage to watch a few movies, some horrible Netflix suggestions included. What I can say loud and proud, however, is that I am now a confirmed Guy Ritchie fanboy. A few posts back you will find where I discovered Snatch. Since then I've watched Revolver - not as good, but still quite entertaining. Then last night I finally watched Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. First off, I remember when I first heard the title to this movie. My first thought was, "they're trying a little too hard to impress with the name of the movie." Silly assumption, I know, but it's just the impression I got, and it prevented me from going out of my way to see it. After seeing Snatch, my opinion changed dramatically. The thing that stands out to me about these Guy Ritchie movies is what great characters he writes. He certainly understands how to create a truly terrifying figure - hard, aggressive and pitiless alphas all. The other thing is the great soundtracks. He makes some great choices for the music featured throughout these movies. Not to marginalize him in any way, but he is kind of like the British Tarantino. Anyway, not quite as good as Snatch, but still an epic caper blast of a story.
  19. No way I wasn't going to see this last night. I'll refrain from commenting until at least Monday, to give anyone else a chance who may have seen it to respond. I was entertained.
  20. This is so very awesome. Because he's kicking it about HIS world. And anyone can respect that. Not to mention it's a super-catchy tune. I believe this very young brotha has a future.

    Make me laugh!

Many people may remember this, it's an internet classic. This was the first video I remember having an autotune remix, and for me, it's still the funniest (and best tune, as well). Just the 2 original videos, when viewed in order are ironically humorous in themselves, with the girl being so cocky and talking so much shit, and then posting a blubbering, crying follow-up video that revealed she wasn't as hard as she thought she was. But then, the internet is a cruel place, as she immediately found out. But the final Autotune remix truly made me laugh hard. http://youtu.be/dYrlj9VE2fg Of course, life goes on, and Jesse's dad died of a heart attack about a year later. Jesse posted an apology video, allegedly on the day her dad died.
