  1. How's it going "LednyrdZepnyrd?" I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Day On The Green in Oakland, California in 1977. That show kicked ass! I am a BIG SKYNYRD fan. I love the songs "Simple Man" and "Freebird" because they both have so much meaning to me. Then again, I also love the song "Saturday Night Special" since it also has a lot of meaning to me. ROCK ON!
  2. What's up "Swede?" How's it going up in Sweden? I have the Sharon Lawrence book, I love it! Like yourself, I have so many JIMI HENDRIX biographies that I wouldn't even know where to start. ROCK ON!
  3. How's it going "lucyinthe sky" with diamonds as well as our fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? Three days until Halloween! Are all of you aware that the VH-1 Classic channel is showing THE WHO at the Isle Of Wight Festival as well as other WHO performances on Wholloween night? Ok, enough of that. Its time to talk about HENDRIX. I love the "Blues" album as well as the "South Saturn Delta," "Voodoo Soup" and "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" albums. All of these albums RULE! Are all of you HENDRIX fans out there aware of this TRUE STORY? It involves the acoustic song "Hear My Train Comin'" that was performed on film by himself. Here's what happened. It was during the "Are You Experienced" photo sessions that the photographer was taking photos of Jimi with the original Experience (Noel Redding and mitch mitchell). After the photo sessions ended, the photographer dismissed the Experience except Jimi. The photographer wanted to take photos of Jimi by himself. When the photographer and Jimi were alone, the photographer gave Jimi a Twelve string acoustic guitar already strung for a left handed guitarist. Jimi looked at the Twelve string acoustic guitar a little intimidated especially since Jimi had NEVER played a Twelve string guitar in his whole life. While the cameras were rolling, Jimi started to play the beginning chords of "Hear My Train Comin'" for the first time on a Twelve string acoustic guitar but then messed up a little bit since he was getting a feel for the Twelve string and apologized to the cameraman telling him that he was going to start all over again. When Jimi started to play again the second time, he ruled and played all over the Twelve string acoustic guitar like he had been playing it for years. This is one of the MANY reasons why Jimi IS, and always will be, THE GREATEST GUITARIST THAT EVER PICKED UP THE INSTRUMENT! How can a man just pick up a Twelve string acoustic guitar for the first time and master it in a few seconds? THIS IS A TRUE STORY! ROCK ON!
  4. How's it going all? Like "achilleslaststand77," I will always love THE BEATLES, there will always be a place in my heart for them. So much has been said about THE BEATLES and why they broke up. Many fans truly believe that Yoko Ono was the biggest reason why THE BEATLES broke up but I have to disagree. In my opinion, the REAL reason why THE BEATLES broke up was life itself. THE BEATLES grew up. Please remember that THE BEATLES were teenagers when they met. John and Paul were in their early teenage years when they met. George Harrison was only 14 years old when he went to Hamburg, Germany and performed at the Star Club. Paul McCartney said it best when he made this statement: We were like four boys that got together in the army and had some great times. But when the boys grew up and became men, it was time to leave the army, get married and have their own family. That's exactly what happened to THE BEATLES. Yes, Allan Klein took over the Manager duties and screwed THE BEATLES out of a lot of money but lets face it, John found Yoko and Paul found Linda. When John and Paul found their mates, they no longer needed each other. ITS CALLED LIFE! A band like THE BEATLES only comes once in a lifetime, there will never be another BEATLES again. Many bands such as THE ROLLING STONES have lasted many years, however, THE BEATLES were never meant to go on and last forever. THE BEATLES were too big and too great to last forever. I can talk about THE BEATLES forever but I think that all of you get the point.
  5. How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? It is Saturday night and I am here at home on the computer. Believe it or not, even I need a break from the local bars every now and then. I realize that I really mentioned a lot of information about THE BEACH BOYS' mainly Brian Wilson's unreleased 1966-1967 SMiLE album. As some of us well know, Brian was keeping up with THE BEATLES as well as JIMI HENDRIX in musical creativity during the 1966-1967 period. Brian was doing things in the studio technology wise that was unbelieveably far ahead of its time. SMiLE was to be the breaking and departure of THE BEACH BOYS original Surf sound formula thus resulting in what should have been the first true album to experiment with music while utilizing the studio as an instrument in a more original and creative way. These new methods that Brian was demonstrating in the studio have never been done before prior to 1966. Please don't just take my word on it, the proof lies in numerous SMiLE 1966-67 bootlegs. If you ever get a chance, please listen to the following SMiLE 1966-67 Bootleg CD's: THE BEACH BOYS - SMiLE - 1st Edition - T 2580-2 - Excellent album clocking in at 60 minutes! THE BEACH BOYS - SMiLE - 2nd Edition - T 9002 - This album is on the Odeon / Brother Records label. This edition contains newly discovered music not available on the first edition. What's even better is that this album has excellent and improved Mono / Stereo sound quality clocking in at 76:49 unlike the first edition. THE BEACH BOYS - SMiLE - Unsurpassed Masters Volume 16 (1966-1967) - C 9949 - This album was released in 1999 on the Sea Of Tunes label. This album also features different sessions with alternate takes of the same songs containing different music and lyrics. The stereo on this CD sounds incredible although the total time clocks in at 43:36. THE BEACH BOYS - SMiLE - Unsurpassed Masters Volume 17 (1966-1967) - This is a 3-CD set with Disc 1 being C 9950, Disc 2 being C 9951 and Disc 3 being C 9952. This 3-CD set was also released on the Sea Of Tunes label. While this 3-CD set may not sound as good as the ones I mentioned above, you can clearly hear the incredible creativity that was being masterminded and recorded by Brian during those sessions in the studio. You have to hear these 1966-67 SMiLE sessions to believe it. THE BEACH BOYS - SMiLE - Archaeology - The lost SMiLE Sessions 1966-1967 - This is an incredible 5-CD set that was released on the German Picareqsque Records label. There are no matrix / ID numbers on the CD album cover or discs. Again, while this set, like the 3-CD set, the stereo quality may not sound as good as the first three albums but I can guarantee you that you are listening and witnessing a true genius at work while making Rock n' Roll history at that very moment. This is a MUST to hear. All in all, all of the SMiLE Sessions 1966-67 bootleg CD albums I have mentioned to you on this thread will blow your mind. At a later date, I will discuss many song tracks further in detail so that you can get an overall picture view of Brian's creativity in the studio and how he recorded the impossible mind blowing tracks onto tape. I am looking forward to talking with all of you again soon. In the mean time, ROCK ON!
  6. What's up "blackdog?" I LOVE THE WHO! Who? THE WHO! I only saw the original WHO once at the Oakland Coliseum in the mid 70's. I have seen THE WHO so many times at the Oakland Coliseum that I don't even remember how many times I have seen them live. I have to go through my shoe box and go through my hundreds of ticket stubs and find all of my WHO ticket stubs. Moon The Loon will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history as the craziest son-of-a-bitch ever. I have read THE WHO'S biographies and I am very familiar with Moonie's stories. Like the time THE WHO were banned from every Holiday Inn for life after Moonie was trying to dodge the Police by hitting every car in the parking lot before driving his car into the Holiday Inn swimming pool. Hotel and Motel distruction along with driving cars in the swimming pool, throwing TV sets as well as furniture off the Hotel/Motel roofs as well as the room balconies, bursting water beds from the top story Motels/Hotels causing an unusual flood in the buildings and destroying their instruments at the end of their concerts were nothing new to THE WHO. THE WHO would join the ranks of ZEPPELIN and THE STONES as the craziest Rock n' Rollers OFF STAGE ever. What do you think? ROCK ON!
  7. How's it going "Xtazy" as well as my fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I LOVE AC/DC! I own every one of their albums on Vinyl and CD. I have seen AC/DC so many times live that I don't even remember how many times I've seen them live. I'm going to have to go through my shoe box and go through my hundreds of ticket stubs and find out how many times I've seen them live. I've seen them live in Sacramento, L.A., San Francisco and San Antonio. My father, who is pushing 80 years old is now a devout AC/DC fan as well as a LED ZEPPELIN and JUDAS PRIEST fan. My dad just loves Angus Young. We both watch the LIVE IN DONINGTON DVD quite often. Now my Dad wants to see AC/DC live for the first time and I'm going to take him to a show. I'm going to take my Dad to see AC/DC live at the AT&T Center here in San Antonio, Texas on 12 December 2008. This historic ocassion will also mark the first time that my Dad has ever been to a concert. I bet that he will enjoy it. ROCK ON!
  8. How's it going "bigstickbonzo?" What you said in your comment, I couldn't have said it better myself. You and I can talk about Brian, Denny and THE BEACH BOYS for hours anytime. It is sad what happened to Denny. I know because I witnessed Denny rot away before my very eyes. I partied with Denny the last two years of his life and it is painful for me to look back and remember how he looked in the end. I have Denny's LP/Vinyl and first CD issue of Pacific Ocean Blue, it is an incredible album. It's painful for me to remember Carl's passing in 1998 because Carl and I finally became friends on his death bed. In my opinion, Brian had the greatest all-time angelic Falsetto voice EVER! Brian and I do reminisce up to this very day about Denny and Carl. I am so proud to see Brian come back to life again, finishing SMiLE helped him mentally in making peace with himself as well as with SMiLE. R.I.P Dennis Carl Wilson and Carl Dean Wilson. Take care and ROCK ON!
  9. How's it going "danelectro59?" I'm with you, I LOVE THE MONKEES! They had the humor and wit just like THE BEATLES. THE MONKEES were funny as hell, I still watch them when I get a chance. Its even better to watch them when you're on acid, its even more funnier. ROCK ON!
  10. Thank you for clearing that up for me "alucard," that makes me feel so much better. THE MONKEES ROCK! ROCK ON!
  11. I heard something about that with THE MONKEES. I also heard that in the 1960's, THE MONKEES were to be a reflection that brought back the spirit of THE BEATLES although they did not play any instruments at all. THE 1960's MONKEES, I hate to say, were the original Milli Vanilli (THE MONKEES did not have any musical control at all.) although I love THE MONKEES dearly. As years went on, THE MONKEES would redeem themselves and perform live in concert before sellout audiences thus putting to rest that the band could not play any instruments. ROCK ON!
  12. How's it going again "danelectro59?" I have many Bob Dylan albums but I only found the "Highway 61 Revisited" album. Believe me when I tell you that I own thousands and thousands of CD's so it is hard for me to find specific albums or certain artists on CD. The producers on the "Highway 61 Revisited" album are Tom Wilson and Bob Johnston. I'm sure that there are more producers. ROCK ON!
  13. How's it going "danelectro59?" Great question! Before Brian Wilson took over the reigns as Producer, Arranger and Engineer for THE BEACH BOYS, it was Brian's Dad Murray Wilson and later temporary producer Nick Venet that produced THE BEACH BOYS early in their career. Later in their career, Carl Wilson would take over the reigns as producer full time and Bruce Johnston would also produce some BEACH BOYS albums as well. As for the other big acts you mentioned, Before The Glimmer Twins (Jagger/Richards) took over the reigns as producers for THE ROLLING STONES, Glyn Johns, Jimmy Miller and Andrew Loog Oldham managed THE STONES earlier in their career in the 1960's and 1970's. THE WHO had Kit Lambert, Jon Astley, Glyn Johns and Bill Szymczyk as producers. THE BEATLES had Sir George Martin and Phil Spector as producers but mostly Martin. I'm not quite sure about Dylan, perhaps any of my fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics can help me answer this one. ROCK ON!
  14. How's it going again "barrios?" I kid you not, I really truly know him. If it wouldn't have been for his late great younger brother Denny and one of my most dearest friends, I would have never been the friends with Brian that we both became up to this very day. ROCK ON!
  15. How's it going "barrios?" I wouldn't say cynical as much as it may look but I would base a lot of my answers on not just BEACH BOYS biographies, but on my personal conversations with Brian. I am proud and feel priviledged that I know the great man himself, wouldn't you? ROCK ON!
  16. How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I would like to discuss a band that needs no introduction. THE BEACH BOYS will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history as the GREATEST harmonizing band of all-time. For a brief moment, it seemed that THE BEACH BOYS leader Brian Wilson was and still is, a genius and could do no wrong. When his masterpiece PET SOUNDS album was released in 1966, that album would singlehandedly set the stage for THE BEATLES to release their greatest masterpieces which is the REVOLVER (1966) and later, the SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (1967) albums. After PET SOUNDS, Wilson would release another one of his greatest achievements, the 1966 45 RPM single GOOD VIBRATIONS which would become the band's first worldwide number one hit. But what many Rock fans did not know was what was Wilson doing in the studio after the release of GOOD VIBRATIONS in 1966. Wilson would be in the studio recording mind blowing music with lyrics provided by his co-writer and collaborator Van Dyke Parks in what Wilson would describe his next album as "a teenage symphony to God." This album would no doubt be called "THE GREATEST UNRELEASED ALBUM IN ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY." The album was originally called DUMB ANGEL after Wilson's younger brother Dennis (Denny) Wilson but the album would be changed simply to SMiLE. If SMiLE would have been released originally in December 1966 as planned or even January 1967, SMiLE would have been a masterpiece way ahead of its time that would have joined SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND as one of the biggest influencial albums of all-time. However, when Wilson cancelled SMiLE in May 1967, Rock n' Roll was dealt another major blow and Brian Douglas Wilson as well as THE BEACH BOYS would never recover from the loss. For myself, I truly consider myself a BEACH BOYS authority since I personally know Brian Wilson as well as the rest of THE BEACH BOYS but mainly one of my dearest friends that I ever knew, the late great Dennis (Denny) Wilson. I have spoken with Brian on several occasions through the years and we have discussed SMiLE to a big extent. I have also spoken with Van Dyke Parks on many occasions and have gotten his opinions and views on SMiLE. I am very proud of Brian for controlling the illness that has eluded him from further greatness and blossomed into a live performer once again bringing him back to life. I, personally, never thought that Brian would ever be a live performer again. Then again, I never thought that Brian would have lived this long. One of Rock n' Roll's biggest miracles and greatest comebacks is that Brian found the courage to go back in time to finish the famous unreleased SMiLE album with his former collaborator Van Dyke Parks and finally release the album in 2004 as a solo artist effort and not with THE BEACH BOYS. Brian managed to win a Grammy Award for SMiLE for one of the most famous songs ever recorded. The song is called "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow," but you may remember the song better as simply "Fire." I own many bootleg CD's on the original SMiLE sessions from 1966-67 and I would like to say that they were nothing short of incredible back then just like they are incredible now. Which now brings us to 2008, Brian Wilson still continues to amaze the Rock n' Roll world with his presence and Capitol Records has recently opened their doors to welcome Brian back home with open arms where he so rightly deserves to be. Now that Wilson is back with Capitol Records, there has been talks that there will be a SMiLE Sessions boxset in the near future. And when that happens, we, the music fans will be able to hear and judge for ourselves if the SMiLE legend and hype was really legitimate. Now I ask all of you, my fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics, your views and opinions on this great band as well as their leader Brian Wilson and I would like to hear what all of you have to say about the unreleased SMiLE album. Please enlighten me whether you have a positive or negative post. ROCK ON!
  17. How's it going "achilleslaststand77" as well as my fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I am also glad that I found this thread on the GREATEST BAND MUSIC EVER PRODUCED! That's right, I'm talking about THE FAB FOUR, THE BEATLES! I have the day off today giving me a three day weekend. What can I say about THE BEATLES that hasn't already been said? THE BEATLES have recorded more number one songs and accomplished more in eight years than anybody in the history of music. THE BEATLES changed Rock n' Roll forever meaning that Rock n' Roll would never be the same again. Lennon/McCartney has been voted the greatest songwriting team of the 20th century. THE BEATLES has been voted second to ELVIS as the greatest music act of all-time. I have seen polls where THE BEATLES barely edged out ELVIS as the greatest music act of all-time. Either way, THE BEATLES is voted in the Top Two with LED ZEPPELIN making the Top 3. That's not bad at all considering the company of great legendary bands now as well as in the past. I am proud that I grew up around THE BEATLES' incredible reign and witnessed everything they accomplished in such a short period of time. There's a BEATLES fan born every minute, with that in mind, you can truly say that THE BEATLES are re-born all over again. ROCK ON!
  18. How's it going "lzfan715" as well as my fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I'm so glad that I found this thread. There are so many emotions and expressions that I could never put in words to describe JANIS JOPLIN. She was Rock's first true Queen, there would be many other female greats that would claim the crown as Queen of Rock n' Roll but there is only one JANIS! NO ONE CAN EVER REPLACE JANIS! She paved the way and opened the doors for all female performers that came during and after her incredible reign. I'm sure the world feels blessed to have had JANIS JOPLIN in their lives, she was the ultimate and complete performer that pulled all of the stops. When she performed, she gave it all to you and held nothing back. You can almost feel her pain as you listen to her voice bearing her soul before your very eyes by singing powerful songs such as "Piece Of My Heart" and "Ball And Chain." I miss you JANIS, R.I.P. JANIS JOPLIN! ROCK ON!
  19. How's it going "SteveAJones?" Pagey once said in an interview that he really got heavy into Aleister Crowley because he wanted to learn Crowley's method of Sex Magick. Crowley had a way of controling women into doing anything he wanted them to do in bed. I have read a lot about Crowley, you would not believe the things that this man could do. When Crowley was alive, he was labeled the world's most evil man. Crowley was a lot like Manson, he manipulated and controled people against their own will. I'm sure that there is a lot more information concerning this topic, I just barely hit the surface. ROCK ON!
  20. How's it going "gperkins151!" I saw your topic here on the Forum and I just figured that I had to comment on it. I am a MASSIVE Jimi Hendrix collector as well as many of the other bands. I do have the 4-CD Boxset that you mentioned and I LOVE IT! What do you think of the studio version of "The Star Spangled Banner?" I love the way Jimi performed this version on guitar in the studio. As we are all well aware, Guitar synthesizers were not perfected in 1969 like they are now. Many music critics have questioned how Jimi recorded the Guitar work for "The Star Spangled Banner." That song blows me away every time I hear it. ROCK ON!
  21. How's it going Blackdog?" I am a WHO fan also, I've seen them live 6 times, once with the original line up. What did you think of the VH-1 Rock Honors? I think that THE WHO's drummer Zak Starkey is the best drummer THE WHO has ever had since Keith Moon. Why, because Zak Starkey is the son of one Richard Starkey, but you may know him well as THE BEATLES' legendary drummer Ringo Starr. Keith Moon was Uncle Keith to Zak who was also responsible for buying Zak his first drum kit. Its only natural that Zak would be the perfect drummer for THE WHO, what do you think? ROCK ON!
  22. NO SHIT! I'll take both of them also, I'M IN LUST AGAIN! ROCK ON!
  23. I remember reading in an interview with Keith Richards about how he felt performing with Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC on stage. Keith's reply was that "THEY ARE CRAZY SONS A BITCHES!" ROCK ON!
  24. If this keeps up, we're going to see a lot more of electric cars or those little cars that look like Tonka toys. I shouldn't knock it, there's a nine month waiting list for those little cars. ROCK ON!
  25. Good choice! I'm listening to a rare Internal Line Feed Recording of THE BEATLES LIVE AT SHEA STADIUM 15 AUGUST 1965 on CD. This recording sounds completely different from the ones that you are accustomed to hearing. This recording is the best quality that I have ever heard of the SHEA STADIUM concert. ROCK ON!
