I think only The Beatles have sold more albums than LZ. Agreed. Zep was all about the entire album as a work. The list could change depending on how you use the sales data. Further I think history is still writing the potential sales story of LZ, (London and beyond perhaps) whereas the Beatles are finished with the exception of the obvious legacy catalog. A better measure of how this could pan out is who is out selling who today and in what numbers? I know the Beatles Remastered #1 hits did very well for a time. DBJ Posted May 17, 2008 Share Posted May 17, 2008 I think somebody should organize a Led Zeppelin sales Drive. Eeach month could be assigned an Album. Like May could be "Houses of the Holy" month every year. So what you do is each month, you would evaluate your current copy of that months album. decide if maybe it needs to be upgraded. (mayby it scratched, worn out, not a current version (a.k.a. not the most recent remastering, maybe you want it on vinyl, maybe you want to gift it) then got out and buy it. If your a true fan you've many different copies of a CD. And maybe your collection is not complete. So an album of the month program would encourage people to get off there ass and get it. At first it would be a grass roots effort, and as it takes off and the record company takes notice maybe they could get involved and offer promotions and advertising. eventually The concept would seep into popular culture. When somenone mentions to you that it is May, the first thing you will think of is Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy". in addition to just buying the album of the Month, The concept could lead to discussions of the album, tributes to the album, documentaries about the album, posters of the album artwork etc. And Lets face the bare Facts. In U.S. album sales Led Zeppelin is in 4th place behind The Beatles, Elvis Which thats no so bad. Plus one could rationalize that Elvis and the Beatles released 3 times as many albums that have been around twice as long to get to their totals.
