kashmiran
Imagine: You've just won a contest to have Jimmy Page make you your own live album with your supervision. Any tracks from any date, any venue. What would your live album be. (Try to keep it to 3 or 4 discs max and in something of a realistic setlist ordering.) Here's mine: Disc 1: 1. Rock and Roll (May 24, 1975 - Earl's Court) 2. The Rover/Sick Again (April 27, 1977 - Cleveland, Ohio) 3. Over the Hills and Far Away (March 19th, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) 4. The Song Remains the Same (January 22, 1973 - Southampton University, England) 5. The Rain Song (March 19, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) 6. Kashmir (March 19, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) 7. Since I've Been Loving You (July 7, 1980 - Berlin, Germany) 8. No Quarter (Mix between April 27, 1977 & March 19, 1975 - Cleveland, Ohio & Vancouver, Canada) 9. Communication Breakdown (August 11, 1979 - Knebworth, England) Disc 2: 1. Ten Years Gone (April 28, 1977 - Cleveland, Ohio) 2. Trampled Under Foot (May 25, 1975 - Earl's Court) 3. That's the Way (May 25, 1975 - Earl's Court) 4. Going to California (April 27, 1977 - Cleveland, Ohio) 5. The Battle of Evermore (April 27, 1977 - Cleveland, Ohio) 6. Out on the Tiles/Moby Dick (Mix between April 28, 1977 & March 20, 1975 - Cleveland, Ohio & Vancouver, Canada) Disc 3: 1. Achilles Last Stand (August 11, 1979 - Knebworth, England) 2. Dazed and Confused (Mix between March 19 & 20, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) 3. Stairway to Heaven (Mix between May 24 & 25, 1975 - Earl's Court) 4. Whole Lotta Love (May 25, 1975 - Earl's Court) 5. The Crunge/Theremin Solo (May 23, 1975 - Earl's Court) 6. Black Dog (March 19, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As you can see, I favor the latter years more. I actually like the earlier years better, but they have been represented well enough, I think. Communication Breakdown is on disc 1, not disc 3, because it wouldn't fit on disc 3 with all those other songs on there.

docron
yea, this thread is going to get ridiculous. pretty soon theres going to be a million posts of different 4 disc sets with all the same songs on it from a million people, and ultimatley, its going to be impossible to read. anyways, a concert is a whole experience, not just a bunch of songs all put together. the flow, feel, and energy of the concert as a whole will be comprimised if you mix and match shows. me? im working on building a time machine to go back to 1971.04.01 (aka BBC Sessions, disc 2). plant sounded like a god damn banshee for the whole set. honestly.. have you heard a better set (as a whole)? there arent many. Actually, the thread might not get that long. You're the first reply this thread has gooten for quite some time since I posted it. And as far as continuity and flow between songs, I tried to pick mostly songs from similar concerts for my set. You may notice, also, that 70% of the material came from '75, and 70% of that material came from one show (March 19, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) Also, no. I have not heard a better set except maybe HTWWW.

I just took a third glance at your song list, and, by my calculations, that's five discs worth of material! At LEAST! FYI, they played Dancing Days twice in Seattle in 1972. (http://ledzeppelin.com/show/june-19-1972) Some of the biggest problems with creating my four-disc: not repeating certain songs, the length of D&C and NQ, picking which Heartbreaker/WLL medley to use, etc. I plan to remake my set again to get rid of some of the inferious-sounding stuff and to make an entire 1973 disc. Essentially, I want to make my own version of the "Another Trip" box set.

The last few dates of first leg of the '73 tour - Dallas, Denver, San Diego, San Fran, LA - blow all three of the MSG versions away.

jimmy page66
Disc 3: 1. Achilles Last Stand (August 11, 1979 - Knebworth, England) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As you can see, I favor the latter years more. I actually like the earlier years better, but they have been represented well enough, I think. Communication Breakdown is on disc 1, not disc 3, because it wouldn't fit on disc 3 with all those other songs on there. your joking right? the 4th is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better
kashmiran
your joking right? the 4th is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better EEEK!!! You're right. I guess my head wasn't with me. At the time, the version I meant to put down was the 4th. The 11th version made me scream to the heavens: WHY!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, though, I've aquired a better version, so I guess I'll replace the Knebworth version with this one: Achilles Last Stand (Mix between August 4th, 1979 & June 30th, 1980 - Knebworth, England & Frankfurt, Germany respectively)

Outrider88
Imagine: You've just won a contest to have Jimmy Page make you your own live album with your supervision. Any tracks from any date, any venue. What would your live album be. (Try to keep it to 3 or 4 discs max and in something of a realistic setlist ordering.) Here's mine: Disc 1: 1. Rock and Roll (May 24, 1975 - Earl's Court) 2. The Rover/Sick Again (April 27, 1977 - Cleveland, Ohio) 3. Over the Hills and Far Away (March 19th, 1975 - Vancouver, Canada) 4. Communication Breakdown is on disc 1, not disc 3, because it wouldn't fit on disc 3 with all those other songs on there. This would be a superb live release…but It is my opinion…and we all know about opinions…I would not mix…Reason being that as Jimmy stated…we never do the song the same twice…So to keep with tradition…release another with a different rendition…Keep in mind…making changes is…Sacrileges…Blasphemy… Add a 4th disc…In My Time of Dying…In the Evening… Bron-Y-Aur Stomp…Tangerine…Celebration Day…Train Kept-a-Rollin…Nobodies Fault…etc…

Generally, though, they're never the same way twice at different venues. But if you have multiple shows at the same venue a few times in a row, you'll usually find that they're relatively similar, at least in arrangement. That's why, as you'll see here, I tried to include songs that, if mixed, came from the same venue, same year, although there are a few exceptions (NQ, Moby Dick, ALS) where this wpould have to be done because no one venue had a perfect version. PS - Check out my revised version toward the bottom of this page. It's even better than this one.

It's live...if you want perfect...spin...a studio release...live is on the edge…The edge moves...changes... I am a purist…I still get pissed off when I here a band do a Zep Tune…I never listened to and never will listen to the tribute…Duran Duran doing Zeppelin…Give me a break…I wanted to shoot Jimmy when he dishonored Kashmir and the memory oh of John Henry by turning the tune into “Rap-Crap”…Dam I started listening to them back in 69…I remember hearing about the New Yardbirds back in 68…I loved it when they tossed the Beatles off the charts…I laughed at my friends…and still do…over 200 million units sold… P.S. If they do an album and support it with a tour or just do a tour…I hope…Even with Jason on Drums…It will not be Led Zeppelin…Just a “Collection of Friends” doing Zeppelin…Zeppelin Died on September 24, 1980 with the death of John Henry Bonham…Bonzo… Zeppelin is and was John Henry Bonham John Paul Jones (John Baldwin) James Patrick Page Robert Anthony Plant and never can be again... solar
If you ask me, the better and bigger challenge is to compile all these songs into a chronological order, the way Jimmy Page had intended to do years ago. That's how I did mine. I personally don't like starting the set with a song from '80 and finishing with something from '69 for that reason. markreed
Disc 1& 2 : A compilation of the best performance of every song performed on the 1980 tour. Disc 3 & 4 : The o2 show. Make these seperate releases if you want. The lack of full length official latter-days shows bothers me.
