Whats you favorite version of songs?

Since I've Been Loving You - 1970-09-04 L.A. Forum (Raw solo and fresh alternate lyrics - they sound posessed during this version - A MUST HEAR!)

I Can't Quit You - 1970-01-09 Royal Albert Hall (The solo, my god, the solo. The Page/Plant dynamic was clean and spot on through the whole number.)

As Long As I Have You - 1969-04-24 Fillmore West (Figured not many people would comment on this one, one of my early favorites.)

Heartbreaker - 1970-03-07 Montreux (Just because I guess - pretty much any version of this was good in the early days when Plant still had the banshee voice.)

Black Dog - 1971-04-01 BBC (This version just sounds so much faster than it did in the later years - I think its the drum arrangements that set this one off.)

I'll limit myself to 5 opinions. As you can see, I'm a fan of the early Led.

Oops.., I just realized you gave us the songs to choose... oh well, I got some of them.

Sorry anyways.

Here are my re-fills:

Stairway to Heaven - 04-01-1971 BBC (I know this is my favorite Black Dog too, but I can't get over the way Plant sings the final verse of this song after Page's clean and to-the-point solo. LOUD AND RAW. Robert was really on point through the whole setlist, which is funny because the concert was postponed a week or two because of his voice being too weak! This is probably the best whole-concert performance for Plant ever IMO.)

Moby Dick - 1970 (I just put a year on this one because its hard for me (who is not a big musician) to tell the differences between each one.. I basically picked 1970 because at this time they were still somewhat short (about 14-17 minutes) compared to the long drawn out ones of latter. This song is one you can't really appreciate unless you seen it in person, or if you're a big musician)

Dazed and Confused - 1969-08-31 Texas Pop Festival (Basically with this one, I'm a fan of the 15-17 minute versions that didn't include the full blown medley section - To me, this song is good enough on its own. This particular version has a badass bow solo and mean slap-back guitar responses during the call and play with Plant. How Many More Times and Whole Lotta Love should stick with the medleys IMO)

I love Since i've Been Loving You from TSRTS, the shredding in the beggining is just mindblowing!

Stairway... Wow,hard... TSRTS again. Because of Plant's sayings (Remember laughter, etc...) and the solo!

Dazed & Confused i love the one in How the West Was won, don't have a special reason...

I'll just go with years here, because I can't be bothered to check my iPod for specific dates. I love the '75 versions of Black Dog and Dazed & Confused, and the '73 versions of SIBLY and STH. TSRTS is definitely my fave version of Stairway.

Zeppelin I

Good Times Bad Times-While they had partial versions the only full version was the O2 show. They did play near full versions on some shows and in some medleys but never a full version till O2

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You-Denmark version on 3-15 I think. The one for Denmark TV

You Shook Me-I'll have to think about this one. One of the BBC versions maybe it.

Dazed and Confused-I'll have to think a while to pick just one. It's probably from 1973

Black Mountain Side/White Summer-RAH is good. So is the Anyone have a Les Paul version which started the show. I can probly put a few others up there as well.

Communication Breakdown-9-4-70 or the Knebworth show they played it at.

I Can't Quit You-10/10/69 Paris, France

How Many More Times-RAH

II

Whole Lotta Love-I may pick either Knebworth or their final version in 1980 in Berlin.

What is and What Should Never Be-Can't think of one that's much better

Lemon Song(Killing Floor)-4-27 or the version from Gonzaga

Thank You-Southampton 73

Heartbreaker-8-7-71

LLM wasn't played live

Ramble On-same as GTBT O2 was the first full live version so I'll go with that one.

Moby Dick-Don't know. There's a lot to pick from.

Bring it on Home-Tulsa 8-21-70

III

Immigrant Song-England 4-1-71

Friends-Japan 9-29-71

Celebration Day-Not a memorable one

SIBLY-Wow there's a lot of choices here, I can't pick a half dozen of them.

Out on the Tiles-Oakland 9-2

Gallows Pole-Copenhagen 71

Tangerine-5-24 Earls Court

That's the Way-I can't think of one I like less than any other.

Bron Y-Aur Stomp/Dancing Days-That's right I'm cheating and putting 2 of them in one since these songs were played together in LA in 1977 on the last day in LA.

IV

Black Dog-Dublin 3-6-71

Rock and Roll-Can't think of one

Battle of Evermore-I'll take Badgeholders one. 6-23

Stairway-One of the Earls Court versions. 24th I guess.

Misty Mountain Hop-San Fran 6-2-73

Going to California 5-24 Earls Court

When the Levee Breaks-Well there's no much to pick from. I think they teased it once or twice in 73. But the first version in Brussells is my pick.

I'll do the later years later on.

These are easy choices for the following, since Zeppelin never performed these live... :)

"Wearing & Tearing" --- Knebworth 1990 (Page and Plant)

"For Your Life" --- O2 Arena 2007: Ahmet Tribute (Plant, Page, JPJ and Jason Bonham)

For those songs that Zeppelin did perform later on/in their last tours:

"In The Evening" --- Knebworth 1979 (August 4 or 11)

"Hot Dog" --- Knebworth 1979

"All My Love" --- Knebworth 1979

Houses of the Holy

The Song Remains the Same 3-12 Long Beach, even with the strings breaking it has so much energy

Over the Hills and Far Away-One of the Japan shows in 1972

Trampled Underfoot-LA Forum 75 any version, there's some good 80 funky versions also.

Kashmir-O2 show or Knebworth

Bron Yr Aur-yes they played this a few times. I'll pick the LA forum version from 9-4-70

Ten Years Gone-I would say 6-21 but the tape cuts. I'll take 6-23 instead.

Wanton Song they played it for about a month in the first American tour, but Robert's voice was so rough it's hard to pick one.

Black Country Woman-I think they played a full version in Seattle of 72 or 73 that was pretty cool.

Sick Again-New York 2-12

Presence

Achilles Last Stand-Knebworth 8-4

For Your Life-Only one choice. O2

Nobody's Fault-You could tell they loved playing this one live. I'll take take Houston 5-21-77.

In Through the Outdoor

In The Evening-Never liked this live. Pacing was wrong for me. Too fast for the song.

Hot Dog-Zurich 6-29 or Frankfort 6-30

All My Love 6-18 Calogne something about it is so cool.

Would be a good choice if it happened. But it didn't. All My Love was only played in the 80 tour.

If you go by P&P shows then I'll take Tea For One from 2-13-96.
