  1. Breakfast was chorizo scrambled with eggs, jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and red and yellow peppers. Half a honeydew melon. Blackberry tea. Orange juice.
  2. Extra hour of sleep and finding these at the swap meet this morning. Did some shopping for myself and a little early Christmas shopping.
  3. Hahaha that was pretty fun...and they brought back the Disembodied Voice for today's episode! Some cool clips from the past, too. Paul Carruthers, you usually watch ESPN...did you catch Around the Horn today? Now watching PTI.
  4. "Around the Horn" on ESPN. It's the 10th anniversary show. Oh where are you now Max Kellerman and 'Disembodied Voice'?
  5. Finishing off the last of my Halloween chocolate...
  6. Good for you. Being able to fend for yourself is an important life-skill to learn. I started learning to cook at age 8. By the way...noticed your Gollum avatar; did you finish reading "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings"? What did you think?
  7. Whenever I hear someone say 'giant salad' I think of Elaine on "Seinfeld". Remember the "big salad" episode? Dinner tonight: Thai Spicy Grilled Beef Salad and Green tea. About an 8 on the 1-10 Heat-meter.
  8. Why not? After all, chicken mole is fabulous and chocolate is a major component of molé...so why not have some Halloween chocolate with your chicken?
  9. Add some mac n cheese or mashed potatoes and gravy for extra comfort.
  10. What have you got against blackberries? And how do you know Mrs. CJW wasn't with him? All fruit tastes best when eaten fresh and on its own.
  11. Today is Walter's birthday! Happy birthday to you, Walter! Good luck on the presents front. Many happy returns of the day. Little known fact...Walter was born the same day that Led Zeppelin was playing in Buffalo, NY: Oct. 30, 1969. Maybe this explains why he and Rick are so sympatico! Cheers!
  12. Absolutely. Now I am happy for you. Happy listening!
  13. I know you don't know me so why should you take my word for it, but if you love the January 9, 1970 RAH performance, then you must, ABSOLUTELY MUST, hear the March 7, 1970 Montreux show! It will blow your head off!!! Try either Wendy's "I Left My Heart in Montreux" or the "Intimidator" releases of this show. Firat of all, the setlist is pretty much the same as the RAH concert, only unlike RAH which had some damaged tape which meant some songs couldn't be released, the Montreux concert has "Heartbreaker", "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Thank You" with the organ solo. Only the first verse is missing from "Whole Lotta Love". "How Many More Times" will knock you senseless...it's better than the RAH version. As is "Dazed and Confused". What is really astounding about this show is that the audience tape sounds better than the soundboard. On both "I Left my Heart..." and "Intimidator", the superlative audience tape is the main source, with the soundboard used to fill in the gaps in the audience tape. The Montreux audience really digs Led Zeppelin which makes for a festive atmosphere. I'm telling you, one listen to this show will convince anyone to the power of Led Zeppelin. The Royal Albert Hall is still a great show, if a trifle incomplete. March 7, 1970 Montreux is the RAH show turbocharged to the max! With the added bonus of HB, SIBLY, and TY. It will crush your balls. Just for the record, those performances while great, aren't Led Zeppelin. There is a Pre- and Post-Zeppelin section on the Forum to talk about those years.
  14. My fave is Peanut butter M & Ms...not peanut, but peanut butter; they're in the orange packages. Also like Reese's peanut butter cups...Nestlé's Crunch Bar...Butterfingers...Baby Ruths...Snickers...Mars Bars...all in the Fun Size.
  15. ^^^ "Laughing Stock" will change you. Dim the lights, pour a nice glass of wine or scotch, light up a bowl...and settle back into a comfortable chair. There are six songs but they flow into each other so that the album is an organic whole...although "Ascension Day", "After the Flood", and "New Grass" are the standouts for me. I won't bore you with the details of the extraordinary way they recorded the album...similar to "Spirit of Eden"...but will let you know that they just reissued the album on vinyl last year, so a vinyl copy should be easy to find. "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" were never played live, unfortunately, as they were deemed too impossible to recreate in a concert setting. It was also the end of Talk Talk, a band who should be remembered for something more than "It's My Life". The influence of their last two records is vast...Radiohead, Wilco, Portishead, the "chill" genre of EDM, the low-fi movement. Talk Talk's last two records didn't sell very much, but most of those who did buy a copy were musicians themselves or people deeply into music. Get yourself one as soon as possible. I'm happy that I finally got some sleep. I missed most of the sports and Hurricane Sandy news of the weekend, so now I'm trying to catch up a little before I go to work.
  16. Zoning out on the couch watching football...Oakland at Kansas City and NY Giants @ Dallas.
  17. ^^^ You MUST get Talk Talk's "Laughing Stock" and "Spirit of Eden" on vinyl. Astounding records that sound even more breathtaking on vinyl.
  18. Took my godson for a post-Halloween Horrorthon victory breakfast at The Griddle Cafe. Best pancakes and french toast in the world. As usual on a weekend, there was quite a wait for a table. Split an order of grilled ham steak and Strawberries and Frosted Flakes pancakes and OJ and water.
  19. Sunny and 80° F. Looking forward to the full moon in the clear sky tonight. To those in Sandy's path, good luck and BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!
  20. Taking my godson to the American Cinematheque's annual Halloween Horror-thon! From Dusk to Dawn! http://www.americancinemathequecalendar.com/content/7th-annual-dusk-to-dawn-horrorthon
  21. I tend to avoid this thread on the weekend...who wants to read unhappy news on a weekend?...but a mis-click brought me here and so... LZG, I will write you later but I think I know the friend you're talking about. You'll think I'm nuts, but whenever I go thru times like your friend, I often get solace and comfort in this song.
  22. I'm pretty sure he was joking...I believe he even owns a turntable himself.
  23. Dude, that's one of my favourite parts of the song! The longer they do that bit, the better...it ratchets up the tension so that when they finally come out of it it's an ecstatic release. One of the Earl's Court shows has a nice long one...and there's a couple on the 75 US tour where they extend it almost to the breaking point. I'll have to do some investigating.
  24. First turntable I had was a little portable Mickey Mouse player for kids. My dad had a killer system: Dual phonograph hooked up to a McIntosh preamp and 500w per channel McIntosh power amp and speakers. Also a Teac Reel-to-Reel tape player. Later, around 72 or so, he got a cassette player/recorder...a Pioneer I think or a Marantz.
