  1. Careful...don't give away spoilers, Bong-Man! Plus, it's a bit more twisted than a simple vaginaplasty. Very twisted. But yes, I saw this two years ago when it came out...so if you go back two years on this thread, you might find my post about it. I'm a dedicated Pedro Almadovar fan, so I was inclined to like "The Skin I Live In" anyway...but it is definitely more creepy than his usual films. Less overt humour...more psychologically disturbing. For those looking for something different, I recommend "The Skin I Live In"...as well as any of Almadovar's other great films: "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown", "All About My Mother", "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!", "Talk to Me", "Law of Desire", and "Volver".
  2. Both of these movies are on my "to-do" list.
  3. You are a wise man, Mr. Paul Carruthers. Good morning! Did Friday even happen? I hit the wall of exhaustion yesterday...four straight nights of concerts and staying out late finally caught up with me and I felt woozy and sluggish all day Friday. I actually fell asleep at the Hammer museum...I was sitting in a chair in the book store, reading and waiting for my friend to get back from her break. Next thing I know, I wake up and find I had nodded off and napped for 2 and a half hours...the cool thing was they just let me sleep, haha. But I knew then I had to forget about doing anything Friday night and just go home and go to bed. With another concert and my nephew's birthday this weekend still to come, I needed to make sure I was refreshed and reenergized. So I cancelled all my Friday plans, which unfortunately meant missing Patti Smith's concert at the Wiltern. But now it's Saturday morning and I feel like a new man. 12 hours of sleep will do that. To complete the restorative process I'm having breakfast at The Griddle Cafe, a marvelous place for breakfast...especially if you love pancakes and french toast. I am having the Streusel pancakes and hot cocoa. Bon appetit!
  4. No rain. Fortunately the rain and thunder stopped before showtime. Sorry I haven't posted a review of the concert yet. Trying to go thru my photos to see if any are worth posting and my nephew's birthday is tomorrow. Had a good time for the most part. The best part for me was seeing the Bonham family films...I'd never seen any of these before. Loved watching him as a kid playing along to Dr. John and Bonzo playing to "Nutbush City Limits! Priceless stuff and brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. The setlist was pretty good...including "That's the Way" and "Going to California", which according to Jason, they only play in California. "Fool in the Rain" was a great surprise...as was "Out on the Tiles", which was kind of a mess in spots. But I'll elaborate on that, and the rest of the concert when I have more time and my photos sorted. Once again, a big thank you to Patty, who made it all possible.
  5. Maybe Lady Gaga just had a touch of Bieber Fever? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfIHzlcu3fo&feature=youtube_gdata_player Great...first Lady Gaga copies Madonna's "Express Yourself", now she's copying Bieber's stage moves. Before you respond, Juliet, I'm only kidding. Don't know the Lady's reason, but apparently Justin Bieber had spaghetti & meatballs and a glass of milk before the concert. Oooooh, not a very smart pre-game meal. Will vomiting now become the latest rage among teeny-bopper acts?
  6. After getting my "Celebration Day" tix, had a Chinese lunch. Nothing spectacular...most of the best and creative Chinese restaurants in L.A. are in Monterey Park and the San Gabriel Valley. Just a basic spicy stir-fry of shrimp, beef, zucchini, mushrooms, chili...with all the usual accoutrements. But my waitress was spectacular...sweet, attentive, able to anticipate all of my needs. The kind you rarely see anymore.
  7. ^^^ Forgive my ignorant Yankee-ness, but is a 'Jacket' a baked potato? Or is it what we Yanks call a potato skin?
  8. What have you got against mashed potatoes? Or is it because I leave the skin on and don't mash it completely smooth, leaving it a little chunky? Or maybe all the pepper and gravy put you off? All I can assure you is that it tastes better than it looks.
  9. Been running around like crazy all week, so tonight I felt like some comfort food. A big plate of mashed potatoes (with the skin still on) and gravy.
  10. No, he was pretty out of it. While taking classes I was working graveyard shift at the 7-11 on Santa Monica Blvd. near Fairfax. He came in late one night, just before the 2am cutoff and bought the rolling papers, beer and who knows what else...I think maybe some slim jims. He was still pleasant even though he was obviously loaded.
  11. Carnitas is my weakness...it'll be the death of me, for sure. Unfortunately, I was never able to find good Mexican food in Europe or the UK. Even New York and the East coast is lacking in good Mexican restaurants. Chicago is better, but basically once you get east of Texas, it's a crap shoot.
  12. Lunch: Carnitas(slow-roasted pork), black beans & rice, salad(romaine lettuce, tomatoes, avocado), corn tortillas, guacamole and salsa and onions and cilantro. Watermelon juice.
  13. I appreciate your input, JT. Although I'm a little surprised such a big fan of Jethro Tull doesn't collect more live recordings. Have no fear...I have no intention of selling these babies. My interest in Jethro Tull did fall off after 1975, but I still love "Thick as a Brick" and their other early albums. Their concert in 1972 was one of the best I saw that year...only Led Zeppelin and the Stones topped them. Maybe the Yes and David Bowie shows, too. But Jethro Tull definitely surprised me with how good and entertaining they were in concert.
  14. Since I was at the shows, I'll take a stab at explaining possible reasons for the swift pace of ALS. 1. After both a lengthy drum solo and a lengthy guitar solo, the band was probably like a caged animal chomping at the bit to be set free. All that waiting around had them building up adrenaline and anxiousness in equal measure. When the solos were finally over and ALS could start proper, they were like a bull out of the gate. 2. There's a midnight curfew at the Forum. All those Forum shows were 3 hours plus...they might have felt they needed to speed things up before the curfew penalty fees took a big chunk out of their nightly gross.
  15. Cindy, it appears gremlins have stolen the rest of your post...what was the good news? Well, I would advise DAS and anyone else, especially the women/girls here, to be careful of what you post. There are still nefarious elements about that could use your photos in unwelcome ways.
  16. "Voodoo Lounge" is the only Stones album of the last 30 years that hasn't collected dust in my collection. Some nice songs on that one. Nothing to rate with the best of 1962-72, but passable. Still, as much as I harangue the Stones for tarnishing their legacy with these constant jukebox tours that gouge the fans of hundreds of dollars just to hear the same tired songs done Vegas-style...even with all the dreck of the last 30 years, the Rolling Stones will still always have a place in my heart for those two concerts I saw in 1972. Sheer adrenaline heat!
  17. A man I once sold ZigZags to...Happy Birthday to the one and only Diamond David Lee Roth! One of the Top 5 Fromtmen I've ever seen in Rock and Roll.
  18. Happy birthday to the one and only, The Rover! Been around here for ages and although not as frequently as he used to be, he still roves around from time to time. Here's wishing you a blast on your day, Rover! Bottoms up!
  19. Thanks to an Angel(not sure if she has a broken wing or not) on this forum, I was gifted two tickets to JBLZE's show at the Greek this Thursday!!! I'll try to stop by your booth, Rock Square. Are there any other Forum members going to the Greek show that would like to meet up? I'm kind of GEEKED about the show as for one reason or another, I had to miss the two previous times the JBLZE played Los Angeles(The Greek and The Pantages). I know I've said many times how tribute bands don't interest me but this is different...Jason Bonham is FAMILY! Plus, many people whose opinions and judgments I trust have raved about this show. So, yes, I'm pretty stoked. Merci beaucoup to my Angel!
  20. I don't think so. Gotta protect the kids, you know.
  21. Not one for the tropical rain forest, either...especially when it extends to the legs and navel. Trimmed and groomed is fine. But not to excess. For example, I hate those who have obviously watched too much porn and have adapted the Hitler mustache look. You know, where everything is bare except a small square patch of hair above that looks like Hitler's mustache. Or one of those long thin pencil strips of hair that look equally silly.
  22. I had to get used to that when I was in Europe in the 80s...hairy legs, too. Now it's not as prevalent as more European girls have been influenced by the American pop culture, and not only shave their legs and armpits, but bikini wax their pubes as well. Actually, once I got used to the difference, it didn't really bother me. Most girls had soft hair anyway, so it felt kind of nice...a kind of downy softness. Especially if they were a blonde...like a Scandinavian girl. Since they had never shaved, the hair on their legs was barely noticeable. And I've always preferred a muff on a girl...don't like the bare bikini wax look; too pre-pubescent.
