  1. Wunderbar mein freund! Are you writing for Samo's album? KLOS? The sun is out and it's warm...warmer than it was last week. And I don't have to work until Saturday. So yeah, I'm happy.
  2. Missing my godson's performance at his high school's Christmas Show extravaganza this weekend. I thought I had the weekend off...wrong-o boy-o! Hope his parents videotaped it.
  3. I've said and written it here several times. So have others.
  4. In other words, a jumbled mess. Watching Dallas @ Cincinnati on Fox.
  5. Whoah...quite a change of pace from your Bond marathon, eh Ady? In light of that, I'd like to recommend one of my favourite films that deals with the subject of war: "The Red and the White" by Miklós Jancsó, from 1967. I've managed to see quite a lot of movies lately...some that I'd like to discuss and recommend with the forum. So a warning to those who hate my wordy, long-winded posts: Be afraid, be very afraid.
  6. Happy birthday Preetha! I know you've been hard at work but I hope you can come out from your books long enough to celebrate your day in fun and style! At least I hope you get plenty of cake and ice cream! You're one of the few I've been friends with the longest here...which is odd since you're still so damn young, haha! Here's to a happy Celebration Day Kiwi and many more to come! Happy birthday to poortom, too! Wherever he may be...haven't seen him much lately. Have a great day!
  7. What bullshit. Everybody? Only everybody who didn't have a brain would have assumed that. This was nothing but a rehash of the same ol' shit. If this is representative of the kind of interviews in this current issue, then it doesn't appear to be worth plunking money down for; certainly not going to buy it for the cover. I haven't seen the issue yet and luvlz 2 didn't say who did the interview with Jimmy, but if it was Brad Tolinski, he's slipping.
  8. Steve and Knebby hit the nail on the head. The Jan. 2013 Guitar World IS the worst Led Zeppelin cover photo of all-time. It's also misleading, given that it's about a concert that took place 5 years ago while the headline "Led Zep Rides Again" makes it seem they're coming back now. Isn't Brad Tolinski no longer with GW? I seem to recall reading in Publisher's Weekly that he's the former editor of GW. I have gotta think if Brad was still there, he wouldn't have allowed this horrible cover to happen. Just checked online and it appears Brad is still Editor-in-chief of GW.
  9. Have just finished watching ESPN's "Around the Horn" and "PTI" back-to-back and saw the "Celebration Day" tv ads for the first time! They were the ads for Best Buy and they aired once during each half-hour show.
  10. I've been helping someone with some music recommendations, and Thin Lizzy was one I definitely wanted to share. One of the great unsung bands in rock n roll...shit, how is Thin Lizzy NOT in the R n R Hall of Fame yet?!? Saw Thin Lizzy quite few times in the 70s-early 80s, including the classic Scott Gorham/Brian Robertson line-up. The March 1977 LA Forum concert where they opened for Queen is still one of my favourite concerts of my life...Thin Lizzy were so good you thought maybe they should have been the headliners over Queen. Phil Lynott's early death was one of the saddest losses to Rock and Roll. I had all their albums up to "Black Rose", but if you're new to Thin Lizzy, the essential Thin Lizzy albums to start with are "Jailbreak", "Live and Dangerous" and "Johnny the Fox". I don't download, so I don't have soundcloud or iTunes links to pass along...I have to use YouTube clips when I want to share music tips with someone. In scouring YouTube for Thin Lizzy clips I found these gems, and thought they were too good not to share with the forum. Zep fans will especially get a giggle out of the opening to the first clip, taken from Tops of the Pops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_2S1TCD_GE&feature=youtube_gdata_player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x_xshO9CJc&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  11. Which begs the question: "Why isn't there a song called 'Holiday Inn' in the movie 'Easter Parade'?" Yes, I'm a sucker for musicals...especially anything with Judy Garland!
  12. You could always watch your "Celebration Day" DVD!!! I am off to work off my waffle breakfast by playing some tennis. Hope to get in a few sets before it starts raining again.
  13. Half sunny/half cloudy and looking like rain...which is forecast all weekend thru Tuesday. I just hope the rain holds off until after my tennis. Feel sorry for the tourists that have been here the last few days expecting California sunshine and getting rain instead.
  14. Kickstarted my Saturday with an Elvis special: Peanut butter chocolate banana waffles! With a glass of tomato juice and lemon and a glass of water. And the morning paper.
  15. Better for you to miss your folks than for your folks to miss you. No parent should have to endure the pain of burying a child.
  16. I will for you, Walter...here's the line-up: http://larryedmunds.com/lets-get-golden-golden-goddesses-larry-edmunds-bookshop/
  17. Looks like I'm hanging out with old porn stars from the 70s tonight...Kitten Natividad, Serena, Annie Sprinkle, Kay Parker and some others. Not exactly how I envisioned my Friday night. Wish me luck. http://larryedmunds.com/lets-get-golden-golden-goddesses-larry-edmunds-bookshop/
  18. Crikey! I just remembered I have to help a friend with a book event tonight...I thought it was next Friday. It's a book about the Golden Age of Porn in the 70s/80s and all these old porn stars are gonna be there. Oh boy...cannot wait to see what kind of freaks show up tonight. But there goes my Friday night...at least the early part. The midnight and beyond plans are still in effect.
  19. Waking up at 5pm this afternoon and finding it already dark outside...and that the rain has stopped. Time to start the Friday night fun!
  20. Don't worry, SR...it's worth the wait. Order up some KFC to eat with the movie. Well, they did use "Misty Mountain Hop", which kind of rocks. Honestly, I think Cameron Crowe was going for a pastoral feeling, which is why he chose mostly acoustic Zep numbers. And it is probably his use of the less obvious and off-the-beaten tracks that makes Plant, Page and Jones so willing to allow Cameron to use their songs, where with other filmmakers they might not trust their motives or judgment.
