  1. And aren't you quite the lovely lass.
  2. Dude, he was a kick-ass general...no need to get upset.
  3. Am I the only one who thinks of former Nixon/Reagan henchman Gen. Alexander "I'm in charge!" Haig when seeing this photo?
  4. Christmas 2011 continued...what I got in my Christmas Stocking...
  5. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here are photos of my Christmas gifts this year.
  6. Happy Birthday wrongeragurl! Have fun on your CELEBRATION DAY!!! I'm sorry you feel you were born in the wrong era. Cheers!

  7. You can do both, Major. I usually bring something I don't need or want anymore, although sometimes the reason I don't want it is the same reason they don't want it, either. I've been sick the last few days...must've caught something during New Year's. Thankfully I am not feeling so near death today, so I can go out to the American Cinematheque tonight for a FANTASTIC double feature: "Ball of Fire" and "The Awful Truth"!!! "Ball of Fire" stars that firecracker Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper, and features a great musical sequence with Bonham's hero, Gene Krupa doing "Drum Boogie". Directed by the great Howard Hawks("Scarface", "Bringing Up Baby", "His Girl Friday", "The Big Sleep"...and too many more to list here). 1937's "The Awful Truth" stars those classic farceurs Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. Directed by another great director, Leo McCarey, who won the Best Director Oscar for this picture. I ALWAYS feel better and happy after seeing these films...and after all, they say laughter is the best medicine...so I should be feeling really good tonight! If you don't like these movies, I don't want to know you.
  8. Goddamn...I cannot get this song out of my head...Andy Bell needs to call up Mark and get the band back together!
  9. Yet another great song from Ride's first album: "Nowhere"...
  10. Fooking hell...that song is so good I had to find a live version. First time I saw Ride was on a bill with Lush at the Roxy in 1991. Talk about Shoegazer heaven!
  11. Anybody remember these guys? A great band from the early-90s.
  12. Definitely one of the better films from earlier in the year. Only thing is, films released early in the year tend to be forgotten about when it comes time for the Oscar nominations...all the November and December releases get a disproportionate part of the attention. Hopefully SOMEBODY in the Academy will remember this little gem from Mike Mills. Certainly Christopher Plummer deserves a nod for Best Supporting Actor. Jahfin, if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you check out another small movie that kind of got lost in the shuffle early in 2011: "SUBMARINE", a fantastic movie from Wales.
  13. Settle down, girls. That wasn't what I got...that was just one of the swap meet's tables with their offerings. I didn't have the budget to get everything on that table. I did get a soundboard from the May 16, 1973 Sam Houston Coliseum show, and "Where the Buffalo Roam", July 15, 1973 Buffalo, NY. Also some Pink Floyd, Faces, Van Halen and Wilco.
  14. Didn't see the Roast you're talking about, but from your description it sounds like Gilbert Gottfried...could this be the guy you mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZWQQByA6Vg&feature=youtube_gdata_player These roasts are on Comedy Central, which is a pay cable channel, not network tv, which explains the raunchier language. It's the shows on standard network tv, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, that have to watch their language or run afoul of the FCC. The whole "roast" thing has been around for ages. The Friar's used to hold Roasts since early in the 20th century. Most of the great comics of the time were Friar Club members. Unfortunately the Friar's have fallen on hard times lately. The first Roasts that I, and most people of my generation, saw and remember were the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts of the 60s-70s. You can probably find clips on YouTube. Don't know if they've ever been released on DVD.
  15. Yeah, you're overthinking this...it just looked cool to him. Ha, you should THANK the 70s for Jimmy's Dragon suit!
  16. A great Rose Bowl game today...lots of action! Congratulations to the Oregon Ducks!
  17. A gorgeous winter day...it was 82° today! Perfect weather for the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl!
  18. Happy New Year planted! Loving the hair!

  19. Got to bed at 4am...and up again at 8am, to head to the Record swap meet. How can anybody NOT be happy when 2012 begins like THIS!?!:
  20. Wendy is great(Wendy and Lisa had a fabulous band years ago called Girl Bros), but that is Prince on the Purple Rain solo.
  21. In case you haven't heard, he's back to being Prince. Earlier this year, he played at the LA Forum from April to May...amazing 3-hour shows with all sorts of special guests and multiple encores, including a final encore that often would be a half hour after the house-lights were turned on and most people had already left. I saw 3 of those Forum concerts. The first time I saw Prince in concert was his infamous opening slot for the Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum in 1981...naturally, he was boo'd by the heathens. And just as predictable, the same boors who boo'd and threw shit at him in 1981 were licking his jock 3 years later when Purple Rain came out. I've seen the tiny dude in concert around 20 times...he's definitely one of the greats. In my mind, he's far superior to Michael Jackson...as a musician and as a performer. I saw both of them in 1984 and Prince's was the much better show.
