  1. I cannot stand crackings in cornbread or anything...so there!
  2. Yes, Paul, it's early. That's why I am waiting until at least the end of the month before I begin to assess the Angels. Wait for the smoke to clear, so-to-speak.
  3. I put bacon or, when I'm feeling really peppy, jalapeno peppers in my cornbread.
  4. Well, it's pretty obvious which venue I'm going to pick, hehe. Yes, Los Angeles was like a home away from home for them it seemed at the time. But while NY was also a place they played often, I wish to point out that New Orleans was a city they loved and spent a lot of time in. Enough so that if I were to rank the American cities that seemed to bring out the best in Led Zeppelin, it would go like this: 1. Los Angeles 2. Seattle 3. San Francisco 4. New Orleans 5. New York 6. Dallas
  5. With the release of the new remastered sets almost 2 months away, I instituted a Zeppelin moratorium beginning last week on April 3. No Led Zeppelin in any shape or form...no live stuff as well as none of the official releases.
  6. The stretch from August 31 1971 Orlando thru September 29 1971 Osaka has some great Black Dogs...the one on 9.14.71 at Berkeley being particularly powerful.
  7. Breakfast: grilled trout with two eggs over-easy, grits and biscuits w/butter and honey. Bowl of strawberries. Coffee and orange juice and water. Dinner: burrito stuffed with lobster, crab and shrimp, coconut rice, onions, red, green and yellow peppers, salsa. A couple of Stella Artois beers. Butterscotch flan and coffee for dessert.
  8. CP, Georgia is known for its peanuts as well as its peaches, so maybe a peanut encrusted chicken along with a peanut slaw...and some peanut brittle.
  9. I don't know what girl band you're referring to, but I do remember Tori Amos doing an album of covers of songs written by men. I also don't get what you mean by "the softer Sixties"...that's when rock and jazz really started exploding and experimenting sonically and lyrically. As for "I Saw Her Standing There"...it is hardly in the same class as W.A.S.P.'s "Fuck Like a Beast" or 2 Live Crew. Macca was barely out of his teens when he wrote it for his girlfriend, and to think it creepy, you must have led a sheltered life. Actually, one can parse the Great American Songbook and find questionable attitudes towards women in some songs. It's just because there is no vulgarity and the songs have graceful chords and melodies that allows people to think the songs are sweet and innocent. Rock and roll is more upfront and in-your-face in both sound and attitude. Being that you're singing to a hotel audience, I'm not surprised a bit that they would rather hear Cole Porter than Bruce Springsteen.
  10. Well, Georgia isn't quite in the same league as New Orleans, in my opinion, and Jambalaya is definitely more a New Orleans cuisine than Georgian. Fresh peach cobbler is a must, of course. And some barbeque...either some ribs or a pig on a spit. Walter is correct with the collard greens, corn bread, etc. Throw in some grits, too.
  11. Yeah I forgot about that lunkhead Johnson when I picked Oakland to win the AL West.
  12. Watching the Bayern München vs. Manchester United UEFA Champions League match. Huge crowd of people here...most cheering for Man U.
  13. ^^^ It was a Golden Road IPA, Rick. The game ended at 10:33pm...which would have been 12:33am in Bong-Man's time, so he might have missed the ending. Jensen striking out Miggie in the 9th was a key moment. Forgot to mention two former Angels I liked were in the game: Torii Hunter for the Tigers crashed headfirst into the wall and had to leave the game early. Chone Figgins was a late sub and ended up scoring the winning run. Loss aside, I still like the Tigers for the long haul. So, are your O's gonna hang two touchdowns on the Yankees again today, Rick Olé? That reminds me of another moment in the game last night. In the 8th or 9th inning, seemingly apropos of nothing, a "Yankees Suck!" cheer started eminating from the right field corner stands near the foul pole. Either they were responding to a fan wearing Yankee gear or maybe it was because of Joba Chamberlain. LZ's "Immigrant Song" was played during a timeout in the 9th inning.
  14. Mary Anderson R.I.P. Died three days after her 96th birthday. "Lifeboat" is one of my favourite Hitchcock films. http://www.avclub.com/article/rip-mary-anderson-actress-gone-wind-and-lifeboat-203196
  15. Ended up picking a great game to attend...Dodgers beat Detroit in extra innings. Dee Gordon led off with a home run and Carl Crawford ended it with a walk-off RBI hit. Both Scherzer and Haren pitched well and it was 2-1 when both pitchers were out of the game by the 8th inning. Jensen couldn't seal the deal for the Dodgers in the 9th, allowing the tying run to score. That left it up to Carl Crawford in the 10th to get the game-winning hit off Joba Chamberlain, scoring Chone Figgins from 1st. Dodgers - 3 Tigers - 2. The 3 Bs... Beer, Bag of peanuts, Baseball The First Pitch 7th inning stretch..."Take Me Out to the Ballgame" Dodgers win...Figgins scores as Crawford is about to get mobbed near third base
  16. It's over 90° today, so after spending all day at the beach, I'm heading to my first baseball game of the season. Detroit is in town to face the Dodgers for their only visit, and since I have Detroit in the World Series for the baseball contest, I want to check the Tigers out in person. Unfortunately, Verlander pitched last night so he won't be available for the Dodger series, but Scherzer ain't a bad substitute.
  17. ^^^ Congratulations on #100! Better late than never. This concert was always bittersweet for me because of many circumstances surrounding it...but mainly because it's really the last time Led Zeppelin had that youthful glow and vibe. From the time I first saw them in '72 until those '75 Forum shows, there might have been slight changes in hair and clothes, but they were still pretty much the same physically and spiritually. On the 1977 tour, however, the change in the band's appearance was striking. For the first time in this fans eyes, they seemed much older and in Jimmy's case especially, unhealthily unkempt and frail. Don't get me wrong...the concerts were still great, if in a different way than they were great in, say '72 or '73. But there was something so different about them in 1977 that for the first time ever, one could allow thoughts of the band's possible end enter one's mind.
  18. I wonder if they actually wrote down a setlist on paper? Unlike many concerts where you see the roadies tape setlists on the stage monitors or in front of the guitarist's effects box or next to the drummer (and hopefully get the roadie to hand you the setlist after the show), I never saw setlists on Led Zeppelin's stage. I saw them only from 1972-77, so maybe in the early days they would use physical setlists actually written down on paper? Maybe some oldtimer can fill us in?
  19. I didn't and still don't. The 1975 tour totally sated and sapped my appetite for "Black Dog". In 1977, "The Rover", "Wanton Song", "For Your Life", "Royal Orleans", "Out on the Tiles"(the full song), "In the Light", "Night Flight", "The Ocean", and "Celebration Day" were all higher priorities on my setlist wish list. I couldn't care less about hearing "Black Dog" yet again, as I had already heard it at every previous Zeppelin concert. Sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings...just my opinion.

:cheer: All right! All right! All right! Congratulations Super Dave (and all the other people in the Conn/Mass/RI area) to your UConn Huskies! They looked discombobulated at times down the stretch, but they held it together enough to beat Kentucky 60-54 for the NCAA Championship. It was a fun game to watch. Time to cue up "One Shining Moment"!
  21. ^^^ How do we know Paul didn't write that note? Somewhere, PC is laughing/crying in his drink. Yeah...and 28 other teams would like that, too. Hell, even the Astros wished they could play themselves.
  22. NCAA Championship Game on CBS. They just showed this weird ass commercial with Gary Busey. Don't ask me what the product was...all I noticed was Gary Busey acting like he was tripping on acid.

^^^ You got that right, ebk. He's a walking Somnoplex ad.
  24. I don't think it's 'stinking' at all. I'm very intrigued by tonight's game, and as a betting man, Rick Olé, you should be celebrating two underdog teams making it to the Championship Game. I'll be switching to the Red Sox-Rangers game during the breaks.

Here we go! #8 Kentucky vs. #7 UConn...first time ever since seedings began in 1979 that no Top 3 seed has made it to the Championship Game. Do I cheer for the Huskies or the Ashley Judds? Unfortunately it's being held at Texas Stadium, which means we'll have to suffer through numerous tv shots of Jerry Jones. Already, I turned from the Red Sox - Rangers game to see Kid Cock mangling some Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Hopefully they will have somebody decent doing the National Anthem... ...oh, it's that guy from Hootie & the Blowfish...Darius something or other. I suppose Sheryl Crow will be doing the halftime show.
