  1. Two awesome overtime games today. Way to go Boston and Los Angeles! Yes, I am hoping for a Kings vs. Bruins Stanley Cup Final. Didn't realize it until this week but this is the first time the Kings and Ducks have met in the playoffs. All those Duck fans chanting "Beat L.A.!" were in shock when Gaborik scored with a mere 7 seconds left in regulation to send it to OT. This is gonna be a tough series.
  2. Not cheering too loud, Paul...I have friends in Houston. I wouldn't worry about your Heat. From years and years of seeing the Lakers have the same problem of long layoffs between rounds, I can attest that the long-term benefits outweigh any short-term rust. Well, I was 3 for 3 yesterday...and so we're getting 5 Game 7s to close out the first round. I have to figure all three home teams today will be favoured...Indiana, OKC, and LA. But how many points I don't know. Rick, are you laying money down on the games today or are you busy with the Kentucky Derby? Feeling good about your Clippers chances tonight? As wacky as this round has been, I wouldn't be surprised if all the games go to overtime. ESPN's poll question today asked which of today's Game 7s did you most want to see? The Clippers vs. Warriors won with 52% of the vote. OKC vs. Memphis followed with 27% and Indiana vs. Atlanta was last with 21%.
  3. THE GODFATHER OF SOUL! Happy Birthday Soul Brother #1! James Brown had many different band lineups...the brief 1971 period with Bootsy Collins may be my favourite. Check this 1971 Paris Olympia show...check how young Bootsy looks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmHTrh5A0X8&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  4. Chillumpuffer would beg to differ. Oh, you mean the lawn. Maybe I'm weird, but I kind of always liked the smell of freshly mown grass. Which was a good thing when I was young, because mowing yards all weekend was how I earned much of the money I used to buy concert tickets in the 70s.
  5. Clint also directed a pretty great performance by by Gene Hackman in "Unforgiven" and another great and often overlooked/underrated performance by Kevin Costner in "A Perfect World". But, aside from his great spaghetti-westerns with Sergio Leone, if I consider just the movies that Clint himself directed, as many good ones as there are, I always come back to "The Outlaw Josey Wales" as my absolute favourite Clint Eastwood movie. I love every frame...it's practically a perfect film. Back to De Niro. No question he is a great actor. But to some people, to say he is the "greatest" ignores a rather glaring hole in his filmography that many other great actors (James Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Cagney, Charlie Chaplin, Marcello Mastroianni, Daniel Day Lewis, Clint Eastwood) have...the romantic lead or romantic comedy or any role where he exhibited strong chemistry with a strong female character. Most of De Niro's great roles were in the company of men or as tortured loners (Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Godfather, Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull). His attempts to do romance or similar...New York, New York, Stanley & Iris...usually fell flat. As others have noted above, he is great, even seismic, within a certain parameter of roles, but he hasn't been as versatile as, say Al Pacino or Dustin Hoffman.
  6. Yeah...we get a lot of that crowd, or what is also referred to as "Steampunk", to our shows. The clothes (and cleavage) on display is often eye-popping. And the shoes! Some gorgeous feet encased in some incredible and intricately crafted footwear. Remember Major Major? He would think he'd died and gone to heaven. So will Sunday entail making your puppy breakfast and big good morning kisses from your wife?
  7. Good times at the Taxidermy Show tonight. The bar even ran out of tequila.
  8. 5? Man, I wish I had your guts/confidence but putting money on the Kings in 5 scares me. Six games maybe...depending if Quick keeps his recent form. I'm torn between Rangers and Pens...my heart says Pittsburgh and my head says NY. This new playoff format is a little bizarre...so far the Kings haven't played a team out of their division. And didn't the first round series Kings vs. Sharks and Blues vs. Blackhawks seem like it should have been the West semifinals? Two great Cup contenders got knocked out in the first round between those two series alone. I really feel for Blues fans...when is it going to be THEIR year?
  9. Have fun and enjoy, Jules!
  10. ^^^ That is where personal responsibility comes in. All too often, we allow the government to get involved in our personal behaviour, the whole 'nanny-state' syndrome. Yes, sugar is bad for you if you eat too much of it every single day. But so is just about every type of food and drink and it is up to us to moderate and take account for what we put into our bodies, whether it is alcohol or sugar or fat.
  11. Here is my progression on this show starting with the first release I acquired to the most recent...they all sound pretty much the same. Requiem One More For the Road Praying Silently for Jimi (both the afternoon and evening concerts on 4 discs)
  12. When was that question ever asked by you? If anyone else can find it, please show me. As for why, it's the same reason Elgin Baylor was GM all those years: Plantation owners need somebody to work for them. Look, it is all documented ad nauseum...there have been plenty of lawsuits over the years...but I am through discussing it here. I would rather focus on the NBA playoffs...you know, the actual games.
  13. Insult? How? Oh, you mean because of our back-and-forth over on the NBA thread? I thought we were just having a spirited discussion. Just because I didn't agree with your equating Sterling's history with a rap video doesn't mean I have anything against you personally or am not open to discussing other topics with you. But hey, I cannot tell you how to feel...if you'd rather not, fine.
  14. What a strange thread. Whatever happened to JayZep anyway? I wonder if he got the answer he was looking for? Remember when Aerosmith released their "Live Bootleg" double-album in 1978? I think that was the first instance of a band using the word "bootleg" on an official release. I love bootlegs...Zeppelin and others.
  15. You'll probably want to see this, slave to zep...methinks "sugar" will be the next official bogeyman ala tobacco and climate change after this new documentary comes out. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/uncovering-the-dirty-secret-about-sugar/article18334597/ http://www.laweekly.com/publicspectacle/2014/01/20/is-sugar-the-new-cigarettes-a-new-sundance-film-thinks-so
  16. Yeah, I don't blame you...I thought Dallas would take care of the Ducks, too.
  17. Don't worry about it...something like this would be extremely difficult to get tix just for yourself, let alone extras, so I don't think anyone begrudges you not being able to get extra tickets. I am just happy a fan such as you gets to be there. We'll live vicariously through you.
  18. HELL YEAH! Can't wait for tomorrow's 60th anniversary screening of the original Japanese "GOJIRA"("Godzilla")! http://www.americancinemathequecalendar.com/content/godzilla-the-japanese-original-0
  19. Up the Irons! Possibly my favourite metal band...it is hard to choose among Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Iron Maiden, but I probably listen more to Iron Maiden records these days and I definitely saw them in concert more than the other bands, starting with the Paul Di'Anno-era "Killers" tour in 1981 opening for Judas Priest at the Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, TX. I was at the Long Beach Arena shows in March 1985 that ended up on the "Live After Death" album..."Scream for me Long Beach!" But my interest waned after the "Somewhere in Time" album & tour (another three shows at Long Beach Arena with the horrid Vinnie Vincent Invasion opening). "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" was the first Iron Maiden record I was disappointed in and with so many other great bands and new things happening around that time period (1987-88), I stopped paying attention to them. I must have went 20 or so years before I saw them again in concert, after they got Adrian Smith back in the guitar line-up along with Dave Murray and Janick Gers. I will always have a sentimental feeling about Maiden...they take me back to those halcyon days of metal in the early 80s. My Top 5 Iron Maiden records: 1. Killers 2. Piece of Mind 3. Powerslave 4. Number of the Beast 5. Iron Maiden
  20. Same here...first time I listened to the show, the stretch from the WLL medley to the encores with the Out on the Tiles/Communication Breakdown and The Girl Can't Help It/Twenty Flight Rock combos made my hair stand on end. Simply sizzling! It should be noted for accuracy, in case any newcomers are reading this, that it is the Evening show of September 19, 1970 that we are referring to, not the early afternoon concert. The band played two concerts at MSG on 9.19.70. Both shows were taped and the afternoon show is good but the evening one is killer. A MUST-HAVE for any Zeppelin collection.
  21. Any particular one you are excited about? Or disappointed with? Glad to see that they have brought back Ford, Mayhew, Hamill, and Fisher, but in what capacity? They are all so much older than when they last were in "Return of the Jedi" in 1983. I'm not a Star Wars expert, so does anyone know at what point in the story timeline Episode VII is supposed to take place? Still have reservations that these new Disney Star Wars will be as good as the first three films but as long as they are better than the prequels, fans should be happy. A word or two of advice to Disney: No Jar Jar Binks. No Ewoks.
  22. Damn wackos. Hope your wife made it home safe. Why do people have to be so destructive?
  23. Love jerk chicken with plantains and sweet potatoes. Mmmmmmm.
  24. ^^^ That was crazy yesterday...poor East Coasters had to stay up way past midnight to see the end of some of those double-headers, like in Baltimore. Did ya' get any sleep at all, Rick or ebk? Ahhhh, see what Rick and I mean by it being "early"? No sooner did Texas sweep Oakland than Oakland goes into Texas and sweeps them...by an aggregate score of 25-4!!! Now that the month of April is over, I can at least say that the Angels at last made it above .500, ending the month 14-13 by beating Cleveland 7-1 on the last day of April. For once, the Angels are not deep in the hole like they have been the past few years. Only 3.5 games back with a key series vs. Texas this weekend. Angels are hitting a ton of home runs, Pujols might finally be regaining his form, Mike Trout is a superstar in the making, and the starting pitching has been better than I expected...and that is with Jered Weaver not being on-form in his early starts, so it should only get better. But our bullpen is a worry...even more so than Oakland's, PC...and David Freese has been a bust so far. Many injury issues to contend with, as well. Who knows when Hamilton comes back and which Hamilton he'll be...the one that started the season looking good or the disappointment he was last year? Where they are is much better than where they were last year and I see much room for improvement. But with Oakland and Texas above them, I still don't see them making the playoffs.
