  1. There were supposedly some rich super-groupies in Dallas that followed the band in their own Lear jet on one of the tours in the Seventies...1975 perhaps? But I think they just went to some of the shows, not the entire tour. Given that Peter Grant, Richard Cole, Mick Hinton, Phil Carson, Raymond, Benji and all the Show Co. regulars all missed various tours, either in the early days or the latter days, it seems that only the band members themselves were at every gig...and even that isn't entirely true. For John Paul Jones missed some gigs early on, if I recall.
  2. What I meant is that Bonham would play just a little behind the beat, instead of on the beat as many rock and pop drummers do. He was like many jazz drummers in that respect. It doesn't matter what Bonham did in concert, and even then, Jimmy led more often than you seem to think. But when you ask who is the TRUE leader of Led Zeppelin, in as much that we all recognize that, musically, Led Zeppelin was a sum far greater than the parts and that Jimmy allowed each member ample space in the sonic spectrum to flourish on their records, to say anyone other than Jimmy Page was the "true leader" ignores all the evidence and facts. Peter Grant himself told Bonzo this when he was acting up...Jimmy Page is the one paying you! Or words to that effect. There's a reason why when Bonham was on one of his drunken rages, the one guy he never threw in the pool was Jimmy.
  3. Great story and I approve of the name Superfuzz...great name for a band.
  4. Whatever pain he suffers in jail still doesn't make up for the fact that you've lost a child.
  5. I'm guessing by that statement that you preferred the silent version to the sound remake then? FYI, that vicious little bastard was played by Harry Earles, member of the legendary Doll Family aka The Dancing Dolls. You should recognize Harry Earles from another Tod Browning classic, "Freaks". Also, he was a member of the Lollipop Guild in "The Wizard of Oz"...that's Harry on the far right in the blue shirt:
  6. Don't think this story got much "play" in the American media when it happened, but unfortunately it happens much too often. I am always surprised and admiring of parents than can stay calm and restrained in cases like this. I am afraid that if that was me I would be engulfed in rage and try to take justice in my own hands.
  7. Oh dear...while I was playing all day at the beach yesterday, I missed Ally's birthday. Too late for the party, I still send best birthday wishes to you, Ally, kind sir. May your back aches be tamed. Many happy returns of the day. Happy birthday to the chase, too!
  8. You are aware that there is a thread in the News section currently in progress (at 109 pages at last count) that discusses this very subject? Nice job mangling your thread title, too. It wouldn't hurt to do a little search...and some proofreading...before posting.
  9. Well Bong-Man, Detroit fans won't have William Clay Ford to kick around anymore. The owner of the Detroit Lions has gone up to the gridiron-in-the-sky. R.I.P. http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-79574441/
  10. Au contraire, mon frère. Time is something that I am in short supply. Otherwise I could get cracking on my Led Zeppelin book. Hell, it's Wednesday and I'm only now getting to read the newspaper from Monday and Tuesday, along with today's.
  11. Considering the number of times Bonzo followed the beat, this is a funny thread.
  12. I listen to that show a lot, being that it's one of my favourite 1969 concerts and the sound is very good. If there is music missing, it must be minuscule because I don't notice it.
  13. Did you turn into Annie all of a sudden?
  14. Ah, I see. Thanks for the additional info and cultural context. I hope Jimmy Page keeps a firm grip on his passport when he travels there.
  15. What the hell happened to Darrelle Revis? Has anyone fallen so far so fast? It's as if as soon as he left the Jets he lost his mojo. His contract is too toxic for anyone to want him. Which makes him perfect for the Raiders. Sorry for your loss, Walter. Thought D Ware would be a Cowboy for life.
  16. If I rread it correctly, the article I read over the weekend stated that two names on the passenger list were not on board the plane but their stolen passports were used, so whomever used those passports are the likely culprits.
  17. What announcer? Are we talking about the October 10, 1969 L'Olympia show? I have two releases of that show...Godfatherecords and another whose name escapes me...and neither has a dj announcer on it. It's music all the way through.
  18. It was ever thus. Led Zeppelin was always about minimal marketing. They would make an announcement, maybe place a few ads in the press and let radio and Zeppelin fans spread the word. That is what was so incredible about the Celebration Day release...it was an actual concerted marketing push by the boys. The first I can recall. Not even the DVD/HTWWW release got as much. I like the way you think. This might be the last time I purchase the Led Zeppelin catalogue in cd form. I bought the 1990 box set and the second box after that. Then I traded them in for the Complete Studio Recordings box set in 1993. I bought all the individual albums in Japanese Mini-vinyl replicas and also in standard US cds. Then I traded my 1993 Complete Studio Recordings box for the 2008 Japanese SHC Vinyl replica box, with TSRTS included, as well as all the extra ITTOD covers and the Turquoise "I". Now, after getting all these deluxe sets on cd, that might do it for me. Of course, I'll still buy Zeppelin vinyl. I cannot believe people are complaining already...about the artwork, about what is or what isn't on the bonus discs. Oy vey.
  19. "Amélie" is a beautiful romantic movie...a great "date-movie". Paris, and Montmartre in particular, have seldom looked better. Some actresses are born to play a role, they inhabit it so completely...Audrey Tautou was born to play Amélie. It helps, of course, if you enjoy whimsy. I saw it five or six times the year it was released and usually try to see it once a year...so I have probably seen it at least 20 times since 2001. A marvelous soundtrack by Yann Tiersen, too! Also watch for the great clip of Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
  20. "Amelie" is one of my absolute faves...I was a fan of "Delicatessen" and "City of Lost Children" but still was unprepared for how exquisitely charming "Amelie" would be. Of course it lost the Best Foreign Film Oscar to a film whose name escapes me. As for "Nebraska", many people don't care for Alexander Payne's type of humour, so you're not alone. Whenever I heard someone complain about "Nebraska" it was usually that they didn't find it funny. I have seen way too many movies to encapsulate briefly here...I'll have to pick the very best ones I have seen lately to share with the forum.
  21. Yep. All you need is macaroni (or some type of noodle), cheese, and butter. Ultimate comfort food. Had baja-style tacos at Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, an amazing taco joint on Hillhurst. They only serve two items...a shrimp taco and a fish taco...both perfecto! A wide variety of home-made salsas and slaws to top your tacos with. Topped my fish taco with an avocado salsa and the shrimp taco with a mango salsa.
  22. No offense, no worries. Rick, you now have something in common with Keith Richards...a blood transfusion! Stay positive.
