  1. Wow, nobody's replied to this yet? This is AWESOME NEWS! Looking forward to the new stuff very much. Wilco is in my top 5 or so of best artists of the past 20 years...something like this: Radiohead Stereolab Wilco Low Sigur Rós Lucinda Williams PJ Harvey Bjork Broadcast White Stripes That's a general top 10...the order might fluctuate on any given day. The next 10 would probably include: Elliott Smith Sonic Youth Aimee Mann Mogwai Explosions in the Sky Black Crowes Acid Mothers Temple Nick Cave/Grinderman Beck Jon Brion
  2. It wouldn't work on my phone. Happy Birthday anyway, Les Paul!
  3. Hopefully Dirk is recovered from the flu. Playing one game with the flu is one thing...asking him to play two great games back-to-back with the flu is something else. Dallas cannot go back to Miami down 2-3. It's that simple.
  4. Things are looking up...

  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIDDO! ROCK ON! :D

  6. Apologies if this has been posted before...I discovered Lane Hardin on one of the When the Sun Goes Down blues comps by RCA/Bluebird. The song was "California Desert Blues", and it haunted me immediately. Apparently Lane Hardin only recorded one single on Bluebird. I couldn't find California Desert Blues, but here's the other song from the session recorded in Chicago, July 28, 1935..."Hard Time Blues". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbG13in7YnM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  7. A HISTORIC night. One question: Are those WEM amps in the 12th photo? I thought by 71 he was using his customary Marshall's?
  8. Hi David, As I just spent some time reminiscing about this June 3, 1973 show, I can give you a little help. The first photo is DEFINITELY Rain Song. Jimmy kept his sleeves down until AFTER Rain Song. Then he rolled up his right sleeve before they started Dazed. He kept it up for Stairway. The second photo is tougher to tell...is that a cropped photo? If you have a larger one where it shows more of his arms, if his sleeve is down it's Rain Song, if it's up it's Stairway.
  9. "The influence of a frozen beef pie..."
  10. Vancouver's lucky the NHL uses the 2-2-1-1-1 format and not the NBA's 2-3-2.
  11. Same here...my first 2 Zeppelin shows were LA and Long Beach in 1972 and the Stomp was a stomping success! Clapping and singing along, it was like the world's largest campfire.
  12. My user name should give you an idea how I feel about this song.
  13. Love Chaka Khan! When I saw one of the recent run of Prince's LA Forum shows in May, Chaka Khan and Larry Graham were special guests...she can still bring it.
  14. Oh, I love me some Gillian Welch...I'm glad my friend finally got to see her.
  15. Unfortunately not by much...you're better off renting the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno 70's TV show. Or just reading the original comics.
  16. Yeah, that was quite a nice win by Dallas last night...and an EXCITING game to watch! Thanks NBA for putting ALL the Finals games on ABC. Are you listening NHL and NBC?
  17. Spidersandsnakes drove this thread off-topic, not Silver Rider.

    High School

^^^ I couldn't imagine what it would be like going through high school today. Starbreaker, Congratulations on your graduation and good luck at your university! Is it Stanford? Catherine...good luck!
  19. Well I had to miss the Wiltern shows due to my hospitalization. But considering the cost, I probably would've passed anyway. Since the Santa Barbara tix were $50, that would have been my plan...go up and see the SB Bowl show. One of my friends got a free ticket for the June 4 Wiltern show and he said it was amazing. Gillian Welsh opened, and he had never seen her before either. He had a good seat(it was a seated show, not GA) front of the stage. Neil joked "Rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated." My friend thought there were too many Richie Furay songs, and didn't think they played Expecting to Fly. Stills' voice is shot, but the highlight of the night for my friend was Mr.Soul, with Stills and Young trading licks. The encore was Broken Arrow, For What It's Worth, and Rocking in the Free World. When I asked my friend if he hadn't got a free ticket, if he would have paid $280 to see the show, he said probably not.
  20. ^^^ It's been 10!...TEN YEARS! since Aerosmith's last record?!? : Wow, that shows how little I pay attention to them anymore. Back in 1975-78, they were one of my favourite bands...I thought they could do no wrong. Boy, was I wrong. Fortunately, Van Halen came along to take their place as America's premiere party band.
  21. Oh, that's so sad, Hotplant. Do you remember what song you left at? You mentioned this was the last of the California shows you attended, so were you at the May 31 Forum show, too? Or the May 28 San Diego show? What prevented you from going to the June 3 Forum gig? I find it fascinating that you, me and Silver Rider...and who knows how many others here...were at the same shows all those years ago. Although I was too young to lurk around the Riot House, the Rainbow, and Rodney's English Disco then. We should all get together in 2013 at the Hyatt and reminisce. Two other things about the Kezar show that stick out in my memory... 1. How weird it was that when the concert was over, it was still light out. 2. Considering the lingering aftermath of Altamont, how generally peaceful the massive crowd was. Sure, there was drug use, public drunkenness, nudity, but there wasn't the aggression, fighting and violence there was at, say the 1976 Angel Stadium Who concert, which also drew 50,000. Just ask Silver Rider.
  22. Well, it helped that I was sober then. I also kept journals back then, so I would write my experiences down at first opportunity. That's why I can remember some concerts in the 70's with more clarity than concerts I went to in the 80's and 90's where I was completely blotto. Anyway, thank you Aqua, Knebby, Anjin and everyone else...although it took a little longer and more out of me than I thought, I'm glad I finally got it posted for the kids to read. FYI, I did turn Trudy into a Zeppelin fan...and eventually even got her to like Velvet Underground. But never Frank Zappa and the Mothers. Her family moved in 1974 and I lost touch with her.
  23. Sorry about that silver...I'm behind on all my pm's...writing those Zeppelin posts took more out of me than I expected. I think the Canucks can bounce back...I expected this series to go 6 or 7 games anyway. I missed game 3 but I saw replays of the hit...I don't know...it happened so split-second quick...but there certainly little incidents happening on both sides that could escalate into something serious if the refs don't get a handle on things.
