  1. Has Scorcese's documentary about the Stones been mentioned yet? Here's an article about its premier at the Berlin Film Festival... Scorsese film to open Berlin festival "Shine a Light," Martin Scorsese's documentary on the Rolling Stones, will open the Berlin film festival next month. Scorsese and the band will attend the Feb. 7 screening, organizers said Tuesday. The annual event, the first of the year's major European film festivals, ends Feb. 17. "We are extremely excited to have the world premiere of this magnificent film as our opening gala," festival director Dieter Kosslick said. "Martin Scorsese has captured the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen." "Shine a Light" documents two concerts by the Stones at New York's Beacon Theatre, on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, 2006. It also includes rarely seen archive and behind-the-scenes footage, as well as interviews, the festival said. Scorsese, 65, won an Oscar for directing 2006's "The Departed." He has made other films focusing on music stars, including the 2005 documentary "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" and 1978's "The Last Waltz," chronicling the all-star farewell concert by The Band. ___
  2. Great flick, Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger were awesome in that.
  3. You're seeing it through Spats-colored glasses. I didn't take it that way at all, nor has anyone else frankly.
  4. The famous solo is actually Walsh/Felder, not Frey.
  5. In concert they have another dude handling Felder's guitar duties. He's not an official band member, he's a touring guitarist.
  6. Ah Noora, I just noticed you are from Finland. One of my wife's best friends is from Finland, my wife is her son's godmother. She came here as an exchange student, and wound up staying. But she goes back to visit quite often. Her name is Mari (not sure if that's a common Finnish name). And I have a friend who is of Finnish heritage, though he was not born there. But he has about as Finnish a name as you can get!...Sten Vaara. In college he got the Finnish flag tatooed on his arm.
  7. Look at him cuddling with his friend Cookie Monster!
  8. Lookin' good ZosoDragon, though I curse you and that warm weather of yours!
  9. Looking at pics of my little guy here at work. This one in particular makes me smile, sitting in his high chair for the first time this weekend!
  10. By being awesome. At least that's what they told me when they gave me my honorary doctorate...
  11. I sent you a PM Manders, but I don't remember saying that...
  12. Agreed, I would take them with Mick Taylor over Ron Wood any day. I know Taylor is a good lead player, but I was surprised to see on 'Gimme Shelter' that he was holding down a lot of rhythm, playing the riffs behind Keith (I'm no Stones expert, so I don't know who plays what like some others here probably do). And the songs sounded so much heavier with his big chunky chords churning in the songs. One of the best things about the song Gimme Shelter is the chords, it gives it that ominous heavy sound. But when you hear a modern concert version with Wood on guitar, those chords are missing, because he and Keith are both noodling leads throughout the song. They both do that "basketweaving" thing where they're both playing lead, but no one is holding down the main riff like Taylor did... Just my 2 cents.
  13. One of my favorite lines ever, Seth Myers on Weekend Update... "A Long Island cat became the first to have a hip replacement, which was just several thousand dollars more expensive than the common practice...total cat replacement."
  14. 60 degrees here in Detroit today, it's bizarre!
  15. Lookin' good Manders! All of our snow melted today, it got to 54 degrees here today!
  16. ^ the kind of tension that generally ends with eyes locking, then an embrace and/or pillowfight?
  17. Same here. I guess I've never understood the audiophile mentality when it comes to bootlegs. Studio recordings, sure I get it. But boots are by nature inferior recordings. A guy with an old 1970's cassette deck does an amateur recording full of crowd noise, the cassette is copied, then eventually dubbed to CD, which is then 30 years later posted on the internet, and people are being particular about the sound quality?? Come on. It's like putting 93 octane gas in a Pinto, it's kind of misplaced!
  18. This is awesome, 2 hot chicks ripping on each other for not being hot
  19. I think it's kind of a hip thing to say that only the original cast was any good, but it's just not true. If I had to sit in a room and watch every episode from a particular season back-to-back, and could pick the season, any season from the 70's would be WAY down on my list. But that's just me.
  20. Yes, MUCH better than that snaggletoothed beast Kirsten Dunst, ugh.
  21. I've always been an SNL fan, and I've loved several casts/eras: The early 80's cast: Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, Tim Kazurinsky, Robin Duke, etc The 1984/85 cast: Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, etc The 1986-early 90's cast: core of Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, etc, then the addition of the young guys who came to dominate the show like Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley The late 90's into the 2000's: Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Chris Parnell, Jimmy Fallon, etc.
  22. I drank it last night! Pretty good ale, very "hoppy" (bitter), but good.
