    Sir Jimmy Page?

I disagree. One prominent critic in the 1970's (Tony Palmer, who has gone on to become an award winning director and producer of classical music films) once said the following about Zep's music, "there is no theater like it...Led Zeppelin has propelled rock and roll into the forefront of artistic achievement in the mid-1970's." Palmer wasn't just talking about music, he was talking about genuine artistic achievement. And he was talking primarily about Jimmy Page. And Palmer was right. The fact that Page hasn't (arguably) been as productive in the past 30 years means nothing. (If Mozart had stopped composing at age 32, would that have detracted at all from his existing work? The answer is "no.") By 1980, Page had earned the right to do anything he wanted to do for the rest of his life: teach, paint, or simply relax and have fun. He deserves a knighthood, and the British establishment has embarrassed itself by not offering him one.
  2. Go for it!! (cruising the Mississippi and the trains.) You'd be a braver man (woman?) than me.
  3. Great photo -- great film -- great actors.
  4. I worked for a summer at an amusement park and carnival -- that killed he flair for me.
  5. I think "1776" is good, too. Also, there are at least two separate (and good) narrative, documentary mini-series about the "Revolution" which regularly air on television. (On the History Channel and PBS, I believe.) Of course, there are also any number of excellent books about the Revolution and the Founding Fathers.
  6. The first things that come to my mind when thinking of '68 (aside from Zep's formation) are the RFK and MLK assassinations, the Tet offensive, the chaos at the Democratic convention, and Nixon's narrowly won election to the White House. (imagine if RFK had won?).
  7. Interesting. Did the pilots take any evasive maneuvers/unusual flights paths into those airports? Did you and the other passengers feel safe?
  8. I used to dream about rafting the length of the Mississippi as well. One important factor which dissuaded me from the idea was learning just how much commercial shipping takes place on the Mississippi these days.
  9. I just watched this documentary for the first time last week -- excellent.
  10. The Korean airlines shoot-down seemed particularly horrible. A plane taking off from NY and bound for Paris was also (perhaps) accidentally shot down by the US Navy back in the 90's. Other airline disasters have had "questionable" causes as well. It's all very sad.
  11. Enjoyed several glasses of the French dessert wine, Sauternes, as well as several glasses (Lol) of the Hungarian dessert wine Tokaji Aszui (5 puttonyos), one of the world's finest dessert wines, together with cut-up slices of orange, apple, peaches and cake. Today, I'm planning to enjoy the Sauternes and Tokaji with French bread and pastries and fine cheese
  12. You women here are terrible! LOL
  13. A guided tour is DEFINITELY the way to go. The guides will keep her safe. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to keep in touch and/or exchange contact info, etc.
  14. Actually, I'm not sure -- I haven't been there for awhile.
  15. I've spent considerable time in SA. I loved it -- great people and spectacular scenery. She'll need to be careful, though. I would suggest (if possible) that she travel in groups and stick to the Garden Route and Cape Town areas.
  16. Anyone here ever seen a movie called the "Devil's Rejects?" The material is very, very dark, but also subtly humorous and tongue in cheek.
  17. 23 Americans died, if I understand correctly I hope your daughter is traveling to a safer part of the world
  18. LOL. Such a question does seem like it would be a great diagnostic tool.
  19. Rightly or wrongly, I'm skeptical that Russia had anything to do with it.
  20. If you discussed the subject with moe people, Scarlet -- particularly with people connected to your psychology practice -- I'm sure you would find some haters.
  21. His original name was Wulf Grajonca, and he came to the U.S. as a child. Like many new immigrants, he felt the need to anglicize his name in order to better fit in.
  22. I like Fiona Apple. I'm listening to George Michael's "Fast Love."
  23. Thanks, ebk. I just googled the Walton's and discovered that both the fictional Walton's and real-life Hammer's lived in a rural part of central Virginia located about 70 miles west of Richmond. Both the real-life and fictional "John Boy" (apparently) graduated from the University of Richmond.
