  1. I've been wondering this for a long time myself. 1972 shows Robert's voice in its steepest decline. In the Australian shows, his voice is quite good. It's not quite to the soaring heights of 69-71, but it's still pretty damn powerful. In the American tour that summer, you can tell it's changed somewhat. It sounds "thinner" for lack of a better word, and it also cracks quite a bit more, even in some of his lower range. Some moments that come to mind include the "oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, oh oh" on Black Dog on HTWWW and the first sung note of SIBLY on the same album. At Tuscon, the last show of the tour, the cracks are particularly noticeable on OTHAFA (one very bad one occurs on the "...how much there is to know" lyric). I'll add my + 1,000,000 to Strider and Nutrocker's. Seriously, what DID happen during those four months??? I can at least somewhat understand the decline from February to June, since they were recording HOTH at the time (this makes me think of another question: are the sped up vocals on the studio version of TSRTS deliberately done to mask the decline in Robert's voice, or was it done just as a cool effect?), but from June to October they weren't doing anything were they? So what happened? Was it an overindulgence of drugs, perhaps? Did he get another bad cold just prior to the Japan tour that messed up his voice? And when did he have the vocal surgery? I've heard many people place it around late '73-early '74, but I've also heard people date it during this four month long break. If that was when it occurred, then I guess it explains the decline in his voice by that time. If it occurred later, then what the hell happened? So many questions! I just did a sample listen of the latter half of '72, listening specifically to the chorus of OTHAFA. The last time Plant hits all the high notes in the chorus is the last show in Japan, 10/10/72. For a while during the UK tour he attempts to sing the first line of the chorus (many have I loved, and many times been bitten) in the original melody while singing the second line (many times I've gazed along the open road) in the now-familiar altered melody, with mixed results. The last time he even attempts the original melody at all (prior to the NY run in 77) is (I believe) the last show of '72 at Alexandria Palace (12/23/72). Since the show after this one is the infamous Sheffield gig, I think it's safe to assume that was the last time.
  2. You and I think alike! Of the range you specified, 6/22/77 is definitely at the top of my list. Even though I'd love a soundboard for all of the LA 77 run, I can deal with the Millard recordings being the only sources available because they're so fantastic. But 6/22/77 is a monster! I agree that it's probably equal, if not superior, to Eddie and Badgeholders. And it has my favorite ever versions of IMTOD and OTHAFA. So that sits at number one for me. Here's the rest of my top 10: 2. 4/28/77 3. 6/13/77 4. 4/30/77 5. 1/18/75 6. 5/31/77 7. 3/12/75 8. 7/20/77 - I know this won't be pretty but I'd love to hear the first half of this show. Plus ALS from this show is "so bad it's good" for me! 9. 4/10/77 10. 7/21/73 As you can see, I'd much rather we have more soundboards from 77 than 75 or 73. Although my number one all time wish for a soundboard is 6/19/72 (please, please exist!!!)
  3. I thought "I Can't Quit You Baby" was from the 1970 RAH performance. Am I wrong?
  4. One of my favorites. IMO, this is the first bootleg that should be used to introduce someone to unreleased Zeppelin recordings. Excellent sound quality, tight performance, nothing too stretched out. Just an excellent, smoking show from beginning to end.
  5. I wish, haha! I got it off of this site which basically compiles emails where people troll each other. It is a freaking goldmine!
  6. Just finished listening to the acoustic set from 6/27/77 outside on a beautiful, perfect, spring-like day. Very peaceful and relaxing!
  7. Didn't stop them replacing Bela Lugosi in Plan 9 From Outer Space!
  8. Disguised Weapons Posted at: 2010-02-09 06:06:07 Original ad: **** Disguisable weapons wanted **** Wanted: hidden blades, belt buckle knives, cane swords, etc..... Offering: cash, items for barter From Me to **********@***********.org: Hey, I saw your ad looking for concealable/disguised weapons. I have several fine-crafted items you may be interested in. Respond if you are interested and I will send you pictures and prices. Thanks, Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: I am. lets see what you got. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, Here you go: Looks like a normal spoon, right? Wrong. It is actually a deadly 2.5" half-smooth, half-serrated knife with tactical grip. One minute you are enjoying a bowl of cereal, and the next you are fighting off attackers with this deadly and disguised weapon. I am asking $50 for the blade. Let me know if you want to stop by and take a look at it. Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: that is stupid as hell and looks like crap. unless you have anything better to offer, dont waste my time. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, I am sorry you feel that way about the spoon blade. I do have some other weapons that I think you will feel differently about. Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: fine. but if it is another knife duct taped to a spoon then you can fuck off. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, Thank you for re-considering. Here are three quality disguised weapons that I think you will love: At first glance, this looks like a normal party cup. However, if you look close enough, you will see that it is really a fully automatic Glock 18C. You will be able to pour your enemies a nice warm cup of lead with this fine purchase. Asking $900 for the gun/cup combo. Still thirsty for justice? Try this badass M16A2 disguised as a 24-pack of soda. The box has two finely crafted holes on each side to allow for any kind of optics (not included) that you wish to attach. This weapon is only for sale if you have a Class III permit. This cleverly disguised weapon may look like a tissue box, but is actually a Benelli M3 12 gauge shotgun disguised as a tissue box. The ultra-soft quilted tissues serve as a comfortable grip on the pump-action shotgun. Also, if you find yourself sneezing during the heat of combat, you will have a handy tissue box ready for action. Asking $1500 for the weapon. Additional tissue boxes are an extra $5 per box. Let me know if you want any of these items. Thanks, Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: youre a fucking dumbass, shitbrained, asswipe, retarded dipshit. you prob walk around with that shit too you dumb mother fucker. I hope you get hit by a car. fuck off, eat shit, and die.
  9. I wholeheartedly agree with you there Porgie! I'd vote for that Seattle concert as Zeppelin's greatest concert ever. First ever live performances of The Ocean (I believe the only time it wasn't performed as an encore), Black Country Woman (which wouldn't be performed again for another five years and wouldn't be released for another three), Dancing Days (performed TWICE no less!), Over the Hills and Far Away (only time it was performed as an encore). Their longest acoustic set ever, an amazing 30 minute Dazed, an epic organ solo (their longest ever) with Amazing Grace, Everyday People, Louie Louie, Let's Dance included as a medley, rare encores like Money, and a fantastic Whole Lotta Love medley. My holy grail, which I hope exists, is a soundboard of this amazing show. I'd say of the videos which haven't been released, the May 25th Earl's Court show is the best one. I've always found these shows a little overrated, but this show is pretty smoking (especially during the first half). Some will say the 24th is better, but I find that show rather sluggish until the last third or so. Go for the 25th. I also believe that that is Zeppelin's longest ever show (apart from maybe the last LA 77 show).
  10. Watching these two men argue and tease one another was always entertaining. May they both rest in peace.
  11. Apparently Butch Trucks' death has been ruled a suicide God, that's heartbreaking! http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/01/27/reports-allman-brothers-butch-trucks-committed-suicide-in-front-his-wife.html
  12. Damn this is a sad day! Mary Tyler Moore has passed away! RIP http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/celebrity/mary-tyler-moore-television-legend-dead-80-n712146
  13. The Tour Over Europe would like to have a word. Strider, really looking forward to your accounts, especially since the 6/25/72 and 6/21/77 shows are two of my favorite shows ever. I think it goes without saying how we are all insanely jealous that you got to attend all of these amazing shows!
  14. Here's what I listen to to pump me up. Even though it's cheesy as hell, this soundtrack is one of the greatest workout soundtracks ever!
  15. Another question I've been pondering recently...how come Mike Millard missed the first four songs of the 6/23/77 show? According to The Year Of Led Zeppelin blog, his recording starts just before Since I've Been Loving You. So what happened? Did he think his tape was running when it wasn't? Did the first part somehow get lost over the years? Did he get delayed due to traffic (as reportedly happened at the 2nd Long Beach show in 75)?
  16. Happy belated birthday to one of the greatest guitarists the world has ever or will ever know!
  17. I don't normally like the live drum solos...but this one is an exception. Holy shit!
  18. You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' - The Righteous Brothers
  19. Both have their advantages and drawbacks: TSRTS - Advantages: better sound, has some fantastic versions of songs (D&C, NQ, STH, SIBLY), Page is on fire Drawbacks: Plant's voice is weaker, no acoustic set, Rock and Roll gets things off to a somewhat shaky start, and the setlist (imo) is inferior HTWWW - Advantages: Plant's voice is in better shape, better setlist, Bonzo is on fire, acoustic set Drawbacks: Sound is overly compressed, no NQ, and, with the exception of Rock and Roll and Whole Lotta Love, the songs which are repeats here (D&C, STH, SIBLY) are not as good as the versions on TSRTS. Ultimately, I'd give the edge to HTWWW. TSRTS is good too, however (albeit I do think it is overrated).
  20. Reportedly, Debbie Reynolds' last words were "I miss her so much. I want to be with Carrie." 15 minutes later she had the stroke. God, that's so sad and tragic!
