The Rover Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 (edited) What Famous (Non-Musical) people saw Led Zeppelin perform back in the 1970's ? ? ? I would be curious to know if these folks ever saw Zep, or who they though it was cool to see when they were in their 20's, to, you know, sort of check out their Rock'n'Roll credibility: Jay Leno (Born 1950) Bob Costas (Born 1952) Dennis Miller (Born 1953) Howard Stern (Born 1954) Bill Maher (Born 1956) Craig Kilborn, Craig Ferguson, & Jon Stewart were all born in 1962, and would not have been old enough to drive to see Zeppelin in the 70's.....But may have seen them anyways. Conan would have been 14 the last time Zep toured America in 1977. Maybe some of them had tickets for one of the cancelled shows ?? Edited June 22, 2008 by The Rover Quote
Dirigible Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 If this helps or serves as a frame of reference, I was born in 1953 and like Zep to this day. The coolest kids in my school were 'into' them. Then when Led Zep II came out EVERY kid jumped on the bandwagon. It's likely all the celebs you mentioned liked the band and just as likely saw a few concerts. In addition to Leno, et al, I would imagine a lot of famous musicians saw them in the 70s. Weren't Clapton and Beck both at RAH 1-9-70? Sorry, Rove, my bad! You said did they SEE Zeppelin? Probably not, probably sulking in the back gnashing their teeth because they didn't have bands as good. Quote
nirvana Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I believe just about all of Hollywood "royalty" attended at least one or more of their shows in the 70's. The Baldwin brothers were big fans, Goldie Hawn, Jeff Bridges, Robert Redford, Farrah, etc. All the big names back then were at the Zep shows to see and be seen. Plus, a lot of porn stars of the day would also show up also. Quote
NickZepp Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Here's a list of other famous musicians that I can come up with. George Harrison and Paul McCartney saw them. George Harrison was back stage for one show and almost came on with the band. Steve Tyler saw them. Probably all of Aerosmith saw them live at least once. But Tyler told his story when Zepp was inducted in the Hall. Eddie and Alex Van Halen both saw them most likely. Definitely Eddie I think I remember reading he was inspired after seeing Page live once. As far as those you mentioned. I believe Leno has said he saw them when they came to Boston in 1969. Don't know which date. It could have been in January or May. I doubt Conan ever saw them live. He's from the Boston area I think and they didn't play there in 1977. He could have seen them in New York that year, but that's really about it. He's never said he went to a Zeppelin show and as big a fan as he is he would have at least hinted at it if he ever did. He was simply too young to go to a Zeppelin show in the 70s. Quote
Dirigible Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Linda Lovelace introduced the L.A. Forum 3-27-75 concert. She was as notorious back then as Paris Hilton is now. Quote

Roxie Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Duff McKagan said in an interview that he was at the July 17, 1977 show in Seattle. I think he was about 14 at the time. Quote
Dirigible Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 It's noteworthy Duff's a very underrated bass player; love the basslines on both Destruction and Illusion. Quote
ZosofanCMR Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 It's noteworthy Duff's a very underrated bass player; love the basslines on both Destruction and Illusion. I know John Lennon saw them with David Bowie at one of their Madison Square Garden shows in 1973. Quote
SteveAJones Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I know John Lennon saw them with David Bowie at one of their Madison Square Garden shows in 1973. Oh, I don't know about this one. I'll have to look into it a bit further. The month before Jimmy had outbid David (Bowie) for the Tower House in Kensington. Quote
Jolby32 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Eddie and Alex Van Halen both saw them most likely. Definitely Eddie I think I remember reading he was inspired after seeing Page live once. Quote
Roxie Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I'm curious to know what other celebrities are die-hard fans. I remember reading Michael J. Fox's autobiography years ago, and he mentioned listening to alot of Zeppelin in his teens. I'm sure he was at the 02 show also. Love hearing about the people who you wouldn't guess were fans. Quote
the queen without a king Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Steve Vai has mentioned he was at one of the shows that was filmed for TSRTS. Quote
