i know i'm not going to convert anyone - but what do you think about this album?

there was a time, back in the late ninety's that i listened to this every day

barring the first track (warhead) i think the rest is sublime

tragic comic

seven sundays

the songs on side 4 that sound like the who

brilliant stuff

if you've never heard it - go and get it tomorrow

you've been missing out on something!

I'm OK with the first 6 tracks of the record, but I tend to loose interest after that. It's the due sense of dread when I put the CD in the drawer and see over one hour running time; too much information. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime. I've not played the whole album since the 1990's.

Undoubtedly one of the most amazing pieces of pop music created. The playing, compositions, production etc were light years ahead of what they had done before.

The solo in Rest in Peace is sublime.

I get the corniness of some of the sounds/lyrics but the sentiment is to the heart and from the heart.

The ending suite from Rise and Shine is classic. The orchestration is a wonderful compliment to the riffage.

Hum, the depth of the listening experience is exactly why it is a good and bad album. It's full course meal when we live in a quick snack world. My life seems to be booked in 15 minute increments so I totally understand. Mars Volta falls into this "Nah.. too heavy for this moment" category, so, subsequently I don't listen often.

If you get the time re-visit it when you have time, without the cynicism and fashion of the day that we all carry and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I'm not sure if the fifth paragraph of your post is directed at me, but it's not just for the album in question, but all albums. 45 miniutes tops for me; It's always been that way, and this applies to double albums, but at least you had the option to play all of it or just one record. Yes, I know that I can eject the disc, but often when I do that the music has already lost my interest. I guess it's an artifact left over from the days of vinyl.

I've given this some more thought, and I do believe that I have CD's in my library that have never been played all the way through. Even Beethoven's 9th Symphony suffers as a result. However, I've attended a concert when this was performed (BBC Proms), and it is a completely different ball-game!

I haven't listened to this record in a while, but I have it. I was a big Extreme/Nuno Bettencourt fan back in the day. I also liked Pornograffiti a lot. Get the Funk Out, He-Man Woman Hater, Suzie, etc.

Have to say Waiting For the Punchline is my fave Extreme album, gone was the overproduction and were left with catchy riffs, tight heavy rythmn and some classic andsometimes imaginative guitar solo's....Midnight Express is a fave. But three sides is good, saw them live about them too and met them .

I`ve always been a fan of this album, is an amazing classic its a great a great mixed of music on that album, Funk, Rock and Progressive Rock too!. there also one of my favourite band... you ever fall for Extreme or you DON`T...

Great album...loved it at the time and still love it.

I saw them on the tour for this album at Wembley Arena 23rd December (I think).

I know it was right before Christmas. They had Neal Schon and Brian May out for the encores. Great show.

I met them afterwards and mentioned to Gary that the lyrics had quite a profound effect on me at that time, especially the "3rd side".

He was extremely (pardon the pun) gracious. I pushed him on what exactly it was about and he basically said its anything you want it to be.

Apologies if that sounds like name dropping I didn't mean it to.

Being a massive guitar nut though I always loved Bettencourt. You can hear Van Halen, May Perry and Page in there but with his own groove twist. Great tone!!
