  1. After feasting Thanksgiving weekend, I fast on Monday...nothing but water. Today it's back to real food...and this morning's breakfast was pan-fried rainbow trout on a bed of spinach and eggs over easy, hash browns grilled nice and brown, coffee hot and a glass of water ice cold, with lemon.
  2. Give the woman her prize! Of course...Full English Breakfast! D'oh!
  3. One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the day after, when you make yourself a nice big Turkey sandwich with the leftovers. All I ate today were two turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread w/ Miracle Whip, mustard, cranberry sauce, stuffing and yams mashed on top of the turkey.
  4. Tommy Lee Jones is reported to be quite good in "Lincoln". Still on my "to-see" list. I don't blame you for disliking the narrator, ebk, as this movie was based on a slippery piece of shit book that has little to no credibility among Marilyn experts. Added to the problem of an untrustworthy protagonist is the fact that it's played by one of the most milquetoast actors since Chris O'Donnell...I think he's the same milksop that was in that soggy bog of shite "War Horse". Michelle Williams tried her best and she was better than expected, but it's almost impossible to portray a supernova like Monroe, where the public record is so vast and still fresh in the public's mind. Apparently it is the curse of the great movie goddesses to be portrayed by lesser peons. Audrey Hepburn is played the totally inappropriate Jennifer Love Hewitt and now Elizabeth Taylor is to suffer the indignity of being portrayed by the inept Lindsay Lohan. Heaven help us. Michelle Williams doesn't reach those lower depths but there was still a certain magic spark missing that Monroe had. It would be like trying to find someone to play Robert Plant or Jimmy Page.
  5. I'm up to my eyeballs in Thanksgiving prepping and cooking(all while playing the "Celebration Day" dvd and cd on an endless loop), so I haven't had time to visit the Forum lately. But now that the last Twi-shit movie is out and the theatres are overrun with adenoidal girls, now's your chance to catch up with some recent films that are worth your time and dime...and you won't be embarrassed taking relatives to over the Thanksgiving weekend. "Argo", "Flight" and "Looper" are all good and worthy choices. But the number one movie to see now, in my opinion, is "Skyfall", the new James Bond flick. I was skeptical when I heard the advance buzz...but this truly is one of the best Bond movies. Definitely top 10, maybe even Top 5...not since "The Spy Who Loved Me" or "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" has there been a Bond film this memorable. Javier Bardem is mesmerizing as the villain and Daniel Craig is great, too. Don't have time to go in detail...but put "Skyfall" on your holiday "must-see" list! I'll be seeing "Lincoln" either Thursday or Friday.
  6. Jimmy Page cover story in the latest Rolling Stone. NOT the Led Zeppelin collector's edition...this is the normal issue of the magazine.
  7. My godson is off from school for the entire week so I am taking him to see the new James Bond movie, "Skyfall" tonight.
  8. Well...now that I have finally woken up with my ears still ringing from the great Tame Impala concert last night and had breakfast, I am: 1. Gonna watch a little football while reading the Sunday papers(also want to check the ad circulars for "Celebration Day" ads and prices), make a few calls to friends and family, and write some Thanksgiving Day cards/letters. 2. Go to the Hammer Museum for their presentation "Salome in Opera and on Film" in conjunction with their Gustave Moreau's "Salome" exhibit. 3. Have dinner and watch the end of the late afternoon games and the first half of the NBC Sunday night game. 4. At 7:30pm, go meet some fellow cine-geek friends at the Billy Wilder Theatre for a double-bill of Mitchell Leisen classics: "Death Takes a Holiday" and "Murder at the Vanities". Possibly go for some coffee/drinks afterwards. 5. Check messages/e-mails before I go to bed...set alarm early so I can get to store before it opens to get Deluxe edition of "Celebration Day" before it sells out.
  9. Good luck Kate and BD! I remember helping a girlfriend hang wallpaper. Not much wallpaper got hung...we, uh, sort of got distracted.
  10. Grey and raining. Where did I put my umbrella? Do I even have an umbrella?
  11. ^^^ I feel sorry for you. Plus, paying people to write your paper for you isn't going to help you in college...or later in real life. Fortunately, there's still time to change the road you're on.
  12. Saturday Nov. 17: Tame Impala @ Henry Fonda Theatre
  13. ^^^ ebk, I'll PM you about the Barbra Streisand concert...I don't think there are enough Babs fans here to warrant me posting about it publicly. Did you take out a 2nd mortgage on the house?
  14. To Kate, Joe, Deborah, slave, Kiwi, ally, and others who wrote me privately, thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragement. Just a bout of insecurity that I go through from time to time. You sometimes wonder "how good a friend am I?" That is one of the reasons why I never will tire of coming here: good conversational and supportive people like you...and people who I can talk Led Zeppelin with! There being very few knowledgeable Led Zeppelin fans in my local circle of friends.
  15. ^^^ Nicely done, chillumpuffer. The majority of the time, I do it the from-scratch-slowly-cook-all-day method. But when pressed for time, I'll cheat and use a ready-made sauce. Actually, if I'm pressed for time, I often forego the sauce and just grate a little cheese and garlic over the pasta...add a little butter or olive oil. Just finished breakfast all the way over here on the Pacific Coast of the U.S. One of my favourite places to go in L.A. is the Le Figaro Café and Bistro on Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz section of Hollywood. It's open early and it's open late...perfect for a pre-show apéritif or post-show nosh. The sidewalk seating is great for people-watching. It's so French it almost makes me want to take up smoking again so I can sit there smoking Gitanes and fake reading Flaubert or Sartre. I start with a cafe au lait and complimentary basket of sliced fresh bread with butter and strawberry marmalade. One slice each of whole wheat, rosemary-olive, rye, cranberry, sourdough, and cinnamon-raison. Just as good as eating the bread with the marmalade is dunking it in the cafe au lait. Then breakfast arrives...perfectly poached eggs atop asparagus spears and tomatoes, topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese. Served with buttery roasted potatoes and mixed salad greens. I love eggs just about any old way, but a perfectly poached egg is like having a bite of sunshine. Of course, any visit to Le Figaro requires a stop at their wonderful bakery...so much to choose from...I finally decide to top my meal off with a Lavender macaron(not macaroon).
  16. Well, I hope you do. Actually, Magic and Kiwi, I am pretty sure I have e-mailed you that and other photos of me in the past. Magic, I did try the food and it was good. As my brother and sister-in-law and a few of my friends are vegan, I eat vegan when I am in their company as a courtesy. I love vegetables so it's not a big deal to me.
  17. Now that the last "Twilight" has finally premiered, that wild, woolly mass of girls camped out for weeks in downtown LA at last can go home and get a hot shower. I would love to be at these girls' homes in around 20 years some Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday with the family all gathered around, as their daughter asks everyone what crazy thing they did when they were young. Great-grandmother: "I camped out for Led Zeppelin tickets!" Girl: "Awesome!" Grandmother: "I camped out for Madonna!" Girl: "Cool!" Mother: "I camped out for 'Twilight'!" Girl: "Oh gawd Mom...you're so lame!"
  18. Which one? There are 10 adaptations or more.
  19. I know a mother never likes her son to be far away, but can I just say that the years I was stationed in Germany were some of the best years of my life! I think he'll be fine and have a good time in Deutschland. Hooray Dawn.
  20. Don't forget "Get Your Ya Yas Out!", their best live album was also released in this period.
  21. I have five friends that are each having to deal with tough, stressful problems and I worry if I'm giving enough support and help to them...or if I am even able to.
  22. That is great news, Kate! Hugs and high fives all around!
  23. So true Rock Action. Actually it's hard to pick just one "best album" from that entire run from 1968's "Beggars Banquet" to 1972's "Exile on Main St.". They are all killer.
