  1. Forget the Satriani song rip...I highly doubt anyone in Coldplay listens to Satriani, and like Swede said, the Coldplay clip was altered. The more obvious and relevant song Coldplay ripped off was Ride's "Dreams Burn Down" from 1990. Listen and compare:
  2. ^^^ :explode: You HAD to bring that game up, didn't you...hehe. Well I placed my bets...SF -2 and the over. Baltimore +7.5 and the under. The fact that the SF-NYG game opened at -3 and is now -2, suggests a lot of money came in on the Giants. That single point is beneficial if you're betting the 49ers. If the 49ers win by a field goal, with the -2 it's a clear win instead of a push.
  3. Prepping for next week's slew of Wilco shows in LA, of which I'm going to two for sure(Hollywood Palladium 1.24 and the Wiltern 1.25), as well as Jeff Tweedy's talk with Jeff Garland at Largo on Monday. Right now I am listening to a boot I recently acquired of Wilco @ The Lille Vega in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 6, 2004. Disc 1: 1. muzzle of bees 2. company in my back 3. war on war 4. at least that's what you always said 5. hummingbird 6. 4. Well I actually posted the "Whipping Post" clip and others from this show back in October for my Duane Allman anniversary thread...I found them on YouTube...and they are still up today. The clips are posted by a user named "theelevan".
  5. I've always been curious about this show. Is it as bad as I've heard people say it is? Is it an indoor or outdoor show?
  6. Yes they do. Like Pamela, she seems to have passed through the looking-glass of that world and made it back to the other side relatively unscathed. I guess it matters how strong you are going in to begin with. Some of the weaker ones get lost and end up swallowed alive by the scene. For others, it's just a lark, a fun phase of their lives that they eventually grow up and move on from. Good for Audrey that she didn't succumb like some of the others.
  7. Thank you...you're such a sweetie. Meanwhile, it's freaking raining today, which has ruined my Saturday plans.
  8. It's not exactly news and probably nauseating to some of you when I come on here and post that it's sunny and warm...sun in L.A.? What a shock. Well, good news for you today...as it is RAINING non-stop in L.A. today! Been raining since before dawn.
  9. It's a good thing I made my picks before watching the NFL channel this morning...watching one of those Belichick Sound FX shows would have you thinking the Patriots will win 100-0!!! I've been paying so much attention to the actual games lately, I haven't really said much about other recent events off-field... RAIDERS FIRE HEAD COACH. I know...not exactly a rare headline in Raider-land. In fact, it's as common and predictable as Jahfin raving about the Drive-By Truckers, StairwayRemainstheSame bemoaning Robert's recent solo stuff, or me droning on about some artsy-fartsy film. At first glance, the Raiders firing Hue Jackson looks to be the same Raiders dysfunction that has haunted this franchise for the last decade. For the record, this makes the 7th coach fired in the past 10 years. Al Davis' recent passing might have caused some of us Raider fans to have hope the ever-revolving coaching carousel would finally end. But two things happened that has me believing firing Hue Jackson was necessary. 1. The new GM. When Green Bay's McKenzie became the new Raiders GM, he had the right to start anew and bring in his own coach. 2. Hue Jackson himself. Especially in the second half of the season, Hue Jackson appeared to be a man unhinged. Paying way too much for Carson Palmer, paying more attention to his off-field power maneuvering than to his actual coaching. The final straw was his shameful end-of-season press conference, where like Norv Turner, he threw his Defensive guys under the bus. He started to look more and more like a Mike Singletary-type. I'm not sorry to see him go. Would love to see the Raiders try to bring Jon Gruden back. MIAMI HIRES PHILBIN. So...not only was Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin dealing with the death of his son the week of the Giants game. He also was interviewing for the Miami head coaching job. No wonder Green Bay seemed to lack focus.
  10. How great for you and your son...too bad you didn't get them for last night's game against the Lakers. Imagine the joy you would have had watching the Magic thump the Lakers in person. This season can't end soon enough...it's going to be a nightmare. P.S. Metta World Peace should change his name to Make A Basket Please. And really, what chance do we have for World Peace when it cannot even crack the starting line-up for the Lakers?
  11. All right...I've made up my mind. Here's my prognostications... San Francisco. - 27 New York - 20 Baltimore - 24 New England - 21 Make that two people who think the Harbaugh Bowl is on.
  12. Stick a fork in the Lakers, they're DONE! Way to go Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchack...and that medding gnome David Stern!
  13. For the love of god, it's sloppy, S-L-O-P-P-Y, not sloopy. We're not discussing posture here. Although maybe we should...because most of you are forgetting one major component to Jimmy's playing in concert. Unlike Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Mick Taylor, and many other great guitarists, Jimmy Page wasn't just standing still with his guitar at the proper height. The fact is, considering the average rock musician of that era, Jimmy's technique was off the charts. Only a handful of players (Jimi, Eric, John McLaughlin, Duane, Jeff) were in Jimmy's class. That's why if you read any number of contemporary accounts of Led Zeppelin at that time, most made mention of Jimmy's superlative technique. Nobody complained about Jimmy being sloppy on the records, where Jimmy could concentrate on the playing alone. On stage, Jimmy struck a balance between musicianship and showmanship. Hence, the low-slung guitar and his zig-zagging and pirouetting around the stage. Was he going to strike every note pure while swerving and lurching this way and that, arching his back to the point of being horizontal to the stage? Hell no...but he hit enough of them and he was a helluva lot more fun to watch than the others, to boot! So when you're listening to a boot and hear a flub, keep in mind you're missing the visual component to Jimmy Page's live playing. It's likely that flub you heard was executed while doing deep knee bends and moonwalking across the stage on one foot with a heavy doubleneck strapped to his slender frame.
  14. Considering that they baked the tapes used for the 2003 DVD set, I'd say it's fair to assume Jimmy knows all about baking.
  15. A true musical legend with a one of a kind voice. Gritty, sultry, and all soul...like a shot of great whiskey. My first encounter with the magnetism of Ms. James was when she opened for the Rolling Stones at Anaheim Stadium the summer of 1978(Peter Tosh and The Outlaws were also on the bill). All I knew of her at that point was "At Last", but the force of nature that I saw that summer day inspired me to search my dad's records for any Etta James I could find. What he didn't have, I accumulated myself from the used bins at record shops. Over the ensuing years, I always endeavored to catch her shows whenever I could...and really, it was more rewarding to see her in a small, intimate club like the Vine St. Bar and Grill or the Jazz Bakery. I probably saw her around 10 times. But I long lost count of the number of times I've swayed around the room in the embrace of a woman to the romantic strains of "At Last"...or the makeout sessions and writhings under the sheets with Etta James providing the soundtrack. What a loss. What a life. What a legacy. Rest In Peace Dame Etta James.
  16. More thoughts about the Suggs vs. Uggs game(Ravens vs. Patriots for you neophytes)... Okay, as they say "there's an exception to every rule". If you look at the list of teams the Patriots exacted revenge upon in my above post, you'll notice a glaring exception...the New York Giants! The Giants RUINED the Patriots bid for a PERFECT 19-0 season in 2007. So you would think if any team would be a target for the wrath of Belichick, it would be the Giants. Yet, each successive time the two teams have played the Giants have been victorious, most recently this season. One win could be attributed to luck, two to coincidence...but three or more successive wins and we have a trend. Obviously the Giants have a scheme and system in place that causes the Patriots problems; you don't see the Brady Bunch scoring 40 points against the G-men. Now take a look at the Baltimore Ravens...they would seem to be a team similar to the NY Giants, right? A throwback team of strong defense with an offense based on running the ball and time of possession. You would think Baltimore would have the same success against New England that New York has had? But apart from last year's playoff win, Baltimore has been 0-4 against Brady and company. Which suggests one thing markedly different between the Ravens and the Giants(not to mention the Patriots): THE QUARTERBACK! Simply stated, Joe Flacco to this point has not elevated his play and shown himself to be an elite quarterback the way Eli Manning has...hell, Eli is a couple wins away from elevating himself above his older brother Peyton Manning in my estimation. This game, therefore, could be called a referendum game for Joe Flacco. Can he get the job done? If Baltimore's defense does its usual job and the running game clicks, all that's left is for Flacco to make the throws he needs to, with accuracy. If he can't, then maybe it's time Baltimore looked for a new quarterback. Eli Manning had his doubters and critics when he came into the league and he shut them up. It's time now for Joe Flacco to step up himself. A final note about turnovers...I don't remember if it was dazedcat or LedZeppFan77 who worried about Baltimore's ability to get turnovers against Brady, but a check of the stats shows that while Brady is 4-1 versus the Ravens, his TD-Int ratio is 6-6. So yes, it would appear the Ravens defense has no problem creating turnovers...it's just a matter of whether Flacco can turn those turnovers into points. Crikey! I think I'm talking myself into changing my bet from Baltimore to New England...
  17. Garfunkle and Oates rule! I totally have the hots for Kate "Oates" Micucci!
  18. I'm either placing my bets tomorrow or Saturday...$100 on each game. One other bit of info to chew on for the Ravens @ Patriots: Belichick and Brady and their propensity for revenge. I've noticed, and maybe some of you have too, that whenever the Patriots feel slighted, disrespected, trash-talked, humiliated by an opponent they then tend to really target that opponent in their next meeting and exact revenge. Denver, Pittsburgh, San Diego, the Jets...these are all teams that have incurred the wrath of the Patriots at one time or another and paid the price. The fact that Baltimore stomped the Patriots last year in the playoffs, and weren't shy about crowing about it, has me thinking Belichick and Brady are working extra hard in their laboratory to formulate Baltimore's comeuppance. That worries me when I'm thinking of putting money on Baltimore.
  19. Tonight @ 7:30pm...a Luis Buñuel triple-bill! http://www.americancinemathequecalendar.com/content/lage-dor-the-young-and-the-damned
  20. After a quick review of the thread, I've discovered who it was that gets to gloat and serve me crow: redrum! Victory is yours, sir. Not dissing Yvonne De Carlo at all...love her film work. To me, her career highlight is in Richard Siodmack's film noir classic "Criss Cross", starring with Burt Lancaster and Dan Duryea. My reference was to the tv characters, not the actress, and in that regard I will take Morticia Addams over Lily Munster...and I will duel to the death anyone who says otherwise.
  21. I was just having lunch at my local taqueria, and they had some movie with Sandra Bullock on the tv(HBO). It was the last 30 minutes and it was goddamn AWFUL! It wasn't until the credits rolled that I found out it was "Love Potion #9", a movie from 1992, with Sandra Bullock and a piece of lint named Tate Donovan. According to the credits, Anne Bancroft was in it, but I must have missed her scene. This has to be one of the most excruciatingly bad movies I've ever seen...and I only saw the last 30 minutes. Lord knows what would've happened had I suffered through the entire movie. Even though it was from 1992, it had those hallmarks of bad 80s movies: the bad hair, the bad clothes, the bad sub-Jan Hammer-esque music. Upchuck city.
  22. ^^^TV's, computers, all machines have a few characteristics that will always allow humans to be in control, no matter what. 1) The on/off switch. Turn the bloody thing off. 2) The plug. Unplug it and it's pretty much powerless. 3) Batteries. If it runs on battery power, then it's a simple case of removing the batteries.
