The Pagemeister Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced in a small blurb the Oscars this year will be bumping their Best Picture nominees from five to ten beginning with the upcoming 2010 Oscars President Sid Ganis announced today at a press conference in Beverly Hills. "After more than six decades, the Academy is returning to some of its earlier roots, when a wider field competed for the top award of the year," said Ganis. "The final outcome, of course, will be the same - one Best Picture winner - but the race to the finish line will feature 10, not just five, great movies from 2009." Quote
Evster2012 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 So we get 9 losers instead of 4? I get it. Double the number of films that can claim Academy Award Nominated. How transparently clever. Quote
the queen without a king Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Cause apparently the Oscars aren't long enough already.... Quote
zosodude13 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I bet this comes out of the outrage for The Dark Knight not being nominated for best picture... and they want to avoid that again too little too late if that's the real reason behind their logic Quote
Reggie29 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 A better system would be Best Picture in three categories with five nominations: Action Comedy Drama Quote
MisterMcLov1n Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Are there even ten decent films released at all annually? Quote
spats Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 10????? It's hard enough to watch ten good movies in a year nevermind 10 Oscar calibre movies. I think it's a bad move. Quote
