Strider
I don't just watch old movies. I do try to catch up with new stuff. "Nomadland" gets a big yay from me. "Palm Springs" a big nay. With the past year putting economic stress on even more people and putting them one pay check or medical bill from being homeless, "Nomadland" really resonates as an examination of the debris left in the wake of the Amazon and Wallmart-ification of the American economy. Francis McDormand gives her best performance in years…much better than the overhyped "Three Billboards…" of a few years ago. "Palm Springs" will only remind you of how you could be watching other, far superior movies instead of wasting your time with this bad Millennial mish-mash of "Groundhog Day" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", with a touch of "Being John Malkovich". Andy Samberg is no Bill Murray or Jim Carrey. Not even J.K. Simmons is enough to save it.
redrum
Never saw this before. Liz was pretty hot in her day. No CGI crap in this movie.

A tad too bloated and turgid for my tastes. I prefer the 1930s Claudette Colbert version or the 1943 Vivien Leigh version.

Strider
Leave it to the French to make a film about John McEnroe that encompasses Eadweard Muybridge, Sonic Youth, Mozart, Serge Danay, and Black Flag. Julien Faraut's documentary "John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection" is one of the most fascinating films I have seen in recent years. But it wouldn't exist without two important things:1. John McEnroe's mercurial genius with a tennis racquet.2. Gil de Kermadec's dogged determination in filming reels and reels and reels of John McEnroe playing the French Open from roughly 1980-1985. See Less

Andy Samberg is no Bill Murray or Jim Carrey. Not even J.K. Simmons is enough to save it. Nomadland was a truly great movie and a testament to the times in which we live. Kinda like a Grapes of Wrath lite in a manner but nowhere near as overtly political as GoW. Have to agree with your assessment of Liz Taylor in Cleopatra. I never found her the least bit attractive. In her adult years she always had a bit, if not more of the alcoholic bloat plus she almost always had that bitchy look on her face. When she was in her late 20's she looked more like a woman in her early 40's. Funny as the perfect person to play Cleopatra from an accurate, historical perspective would likely be Tilda Swinton or another androgynous looking woman like Asia Kate Dillon. The real Cleopatra was not very attractive, could have passed for a male, and had a rather large nose. Supposedly her big draw was her wit, cunning, and overall intelligence. You might as well wax your balls with sandpaper. I won't watch anything on AMC, Spike, Bravo, IFC, or any cable channel other than TCM or the Criterion Channel. They are the only ones that still show movies unedited and in the proper frame aspect. Otherwise, I use my DVDs, and my streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, CinemaHD, and ZuniTevi for watching movies at home. USA Network is the other one. Only channel that can somehow fit a 92 minute feature film into a 4 hour time slot, including the edits to remove stuff... so an 85 minute film packed into 240 minutes. I'd rather watch the Home Shopping Club and look at some fat saleslady hawking ginsu knives and stare at her boobs. Ev IFC used air unedited films. Not sure why they lamed out? It really sucks when they play a film like Snatch, Casino, The Departed, and Superbad, and they hack the shit out of stuff. Everyone today afraid of "cancel culture" and losing corporate sponsors. What in the FUCK is the FUCKING point of even bother to put a film like Snatch on and edit out language which while not PC, is part of the "culture" of the people you are depicting? Like showing Boyz in the Hood and making them sound like white catholic school boys.

Of course--like most things in life--there are 1 or 2 exceptions; High Noon with Gary Cooper is another one I enjoy & Lon Chaney Jr. had a prolific career in westerns, so sometimes I might check out his appearances if I ever catch them... Are you trying to make life for Sam more difficult? You can't just watch it you need a YouTube account and prove your 18 and above, and to be honest there was nothing really bad, just a little nudity not much, so the what do you think about the Beautiful Women thread wouldn't that make Sam's life more difficult, most movies today if not all have nudity. This movie was about a mother using her daughters to kill men for their money, not like its a porn movie. As you can see you can't just click on the movie and start watching,it doesn't even have pictures on it.
