JimmyPageZoSo56 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 does anyone know the meaning of the song? I know its about one of the guys trying desperately to get a woman's love and the title comes from a black lab. But my friends and I think the woman is one of Jimmy's old girlfriends. Can someone please elaborate? Quote
Cactus Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 More likely about one of Robert's ex-gfs, if it is about that. I think your mind is too clean though: "Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove Ah, ah, child, way you shake that thing Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way Watch your honey drip, can't keep away" Pretty clear to me that he wants to get into her pants. "Dreams of you all through my head" He can't get her off his mind. "Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby Tell me that you'll do me now Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby Woman won't you do me now" Pretty self explanatory. "Spent my money, took my car Started tellin' her friends she gonna be a star" Maybe they get together? But it turns out she is a real *****. "Started tellin' her friends she gonna be a star" makes me wonder if maybe it's about groupies or girls who want to get close to the band just because they are rich/famous? Quote
JimmyPageZoSo56 Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 I thought it was one of Jimmy's. thanks for clarification. Quote
songbird Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 "Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby Tell me that you'll do me now Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby Woman won't you do me now" I always thought it was "won't you do IT now".... sounds less... obvious? than your version. Quote
Idunn Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I thought Black Dog was written about Roberts dog Strider. Quote
Chien Noir Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I've read something about a dog wandering around the studio in the time of recording the song, but not sure about credibility of the info. Quote
Cactus Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I've read something about a dog wandering around the studio in the time of recording the song, but not sure about credibility of the info. Ross Halfin has pictures of a visit to Hedley Grange (where they recorded IV), with Jimmy Page and a Black Dog...... Quote
Bill Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Robert would sometimes introduce the song by saying it was about a black labrador. Quote
zoso13zeppelin Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I'm pretty sure it's not about a dog, or that would be kind of gross. Very good point there… Quote
zepyep Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi all, It's not about a dog,but the title is from a dog that was wandering around during recording. KB Quote
SilverVishnu Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The title is about a 19-year-old black labrador who befriended the band while they were recording at Headley Grange. The song is about something completely different - basically love, sex, and thinking too fast about girlfriends when you're young. Or summit like that. Quote
The Bomber Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 There was a dog in the studio, that's what it means, but think now, title=dog, song=woman dog+woman=Bitch, the songs about a Bitch! Quote
